  1. My 2017 Legacy has a lot of condensation or a water leak in one of its headlight housings. I’m wondering if this is a common problem, if the most likely cause is known and if a fix is described anywhere in these forums.
  2. Out on the -9*C ice-covered driveway, I pulled a flat snow tire and wheel off to take it for repair. So as not to leave the car on the jack for hours, I took the compact spare out and put it on. Have you ever seen a nicer looking compact spare wheel?
  3. My best effort at measuring this morning give me 15.5" to 15.75" in front and 14.25" to 14.5" (362 mm to 368 mm) in the rear. The driver's side rear is definitely 0.25" to 0.5" lower than the passenger side. But that looks to be within the specified range. Has rear spring sag been an issue with this Gen? Mine has only 70,000 km.
  4. Thank you XT-sub and silverton. I'll take some measurements tomorrow morning.
  5. Can someone point me to a reference for the factory ride height of my 2017 Legacy 2.5 Limited? I've been searching this forum and others without success. The reason I ask is that the rear appears to be even lower than it was new and I'm wondering if the rear springs are sagging.
  6. Do your tires have a directional tread pattern? If so, you would need to be rotating 6 tires. Unless you live in an area where tire punctures are common, all this may be overkill. In 53 years of car ownership I’ve only had one tire fail to the point that it’s irreparable and that was because it was worn almost to the point of replacement. I will continue to rotate my tires but I’ll take the chance on having to replace all 4 prematurely because of a road incident.
  7. It's the original keys, not duplicates. A remote starter was installed when the car was new, has been no problem until now.
  8. So no replies in almost 24 hours but I went out and took a couple of photos of the security indicator light. One is taken with just ambient light. The security indicator icon is clearly visible, when no other warning lights are visible. The second shot was taken with the instrument lighting on and the engine running. The security indicator icon is still visible but not bright, like the much brighter seatbelt light, which I activated by taking off my seatbelt. When I first unlock the car and get in, the security indicator light flashes as brightly as the seatbelt light but it goes off when I start the engine. All I'd like to know is if this is normal. Can anyone confirm that their car also shows the security indicator icon when the engine is running? If it's normal then my starting problem was not necessarily a defective immobilizer.
  9. After a short drive to the store today, my 2017 Legacy would not start. Every warning light on the dash lit up but the starter wouldn't even engage. Got some warnings displayed on the dash, too, like "AT OIL TEMP" and "VEHICLE DYNAMICS". The battery is strong and I'm thinking it was an immobilizer/remote starter glitch. After trying several times, I spent a few minutes trying to think of what I was missing. Then without doing anything different, the car started perfectly. But I did notice now that with the engine running the Security Indicator light is constantly on but at very low intensity; maybe 10%. Not flashing, but constant low intensity. Is this normal? I've only owned the car for 4 years, you know, so maybe I never noticed it was always on. I can't find anything in the owner's manual.
  10. I'd like to bump this post. I see there are no responses to the original post and I need information on how to update the maps on my 2017 Legacy factory navigation system here in Canada. I found a web site that offers a free update by download but I have to do it directly on my OEM micro SD card. I don't like that risk. I asked the dealer if they do the updates and they flatly said NO. They said I'd have to buy a new SD card which they quoted at $700 CAD!!!! Has anyone done a successful update?
  11. Just got an update on my old '05 LGT; the guy who bought it 2 1/2 years ago texted me to let me know the engine was "shot". He says the valves "on one side" were finished and he thought it wasn't worth rebuilding the engine. The car now has 260K km (162K mi) and 15 hard Canadian winters on it and he claims the body is still rust-free and everything else still works well. A local enthusiast is buying it to rebuild so I may still see it on the road.
  12. One of the best so far... seen on an Infinity...NBEYOND
  13. Did you consider the weight of the SC38s? The 20” is 13.5 kg (29.8 lb)! The 19” is only slightly better at 13.0 kg (28.7 lb). How does that compare to the OEM 18” Wheels?
  14. Just measured mine at 14 7/8” (14.88”) in the back and 15 5/8” (15.63”) in the front. Those measurements might be plus or minus 1/8” (0.125”) so it’s probably within spec. If the rear has sagged, it’s not by a lot.
  15. I was thinking of going to the dealer to measure the rear ride height of a new Legacy in the showroom but they usually don't have any; only Outbacks, Foresters, Crosstreks and Imprezas. Does anyone have the Subaru specs for the rear ride height? Is it measured wheel arch to hub center?
  16. That has a lot to do with it. Driving in Germany I was impressed with the generally good driving. I believe the licencing requirements and driver training must be better than here. NOBODY sits in the left lane, especially in the unrestricted speed areas of the autobahns. And nobody changes lanes to the left if there's a faster car coming up in that lane.
  17. Daily peeve. Why is it that the farther south I drive the more the left lane of the Interstate gets clogged with slow drivers? Georgia...Florida!!! Cruise control on at SL+5, no one else around but a car in the left lane at SL. A minute later, "Oh! There's someone behind me!" Pulls over, I pass, he pulls back into the left lane. I learned (50 years ago) that it was illegal to pass on the right. But down here it's like: "You want to go faster than me? There are two empty lanes on my right."
  18. I'm liking the '17 a lot but it's a totally different car than the LGT. The '05 was more of a performance car, a bit of a Q-ship, and an enthusiast's favourite. The '17 is smoother, quieter, and of course it has so much tech in it that wasn't even available in 2005. I test drove the 3.6R before buying my 2.5, hoping it would be a little like the LGT but I was quite disappointed. Even if it has about the same power as the '05 LGT, it doesn't have the kick-in-the-pants response of the LGT's turbo when the power came on. And I found it felt front heavy. At the same time, I found the 2.5 nowhere near as underpowered as a lot of people on this forum make it out to be. So yes, I like the '17 but I've accepted that I will probably never again have the "STi for adults" feel I had with the LGT.
  19. For those reasons most tire experts here in the great frozen north recommend going to a -1 setup with taller sidewalls for the winter. I figured I'd go part way and install the base Legacy setup of 225/55R17 on 17" wheels rather than the 18" that came on my car. Being the owner of a 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata with 17" wheels, I was curious if they would fit on the '17 Legacy. It turns out that the factory 17" wheel from the NC generation of Miata is a perfect fit. It has the same offset, bolt pattern and a slightly larger bore. There are lots of 2006 to 2015 Miata owners around who have swapped their original mags for aftermarket and have sets of four of these wheels lying around in their garages. I picked up 4 in excellent condition for slightly more than black steel wheels and I think they look good on my Legacy for a winter wheel. I even have Subaru centre caps that fit the Mazda wheel.
  20. I also had a Brilliant Silver '05 LGT before buying my Ice Silver '17 but I wish it was still parked in my driveway.
  21. Ha! I need a proofreader. When I owned my two NAs I loved them but both had been winter driven. I felt that I needed to start with a new car and so I gave myself a pre-retirement gift. I kept the '96 CR for a couple of years after buying the NC but I found that I wasn't driving it a lot. I knew I'd miss it but I let it go. This summer, a friend loaned me his '96 to drive on a club tour and it brought back a lot of memories of the NAs. I have a real soft spot for the NA. Still, after 9 years with the NC, I can't say I'd go back to the NA as my only Miata.
  22. I've just spent some time reading a lot of this forum. Didn't realize there was a Miata thread on this forum. I've been a Miata owner (two NAs and one NC so far) since before my first Subaru in 20015. I wonder how many Subaru owners also drive Miatas.
  23. Sad day... on her way to the licence bureau to transfer ownership to her new owner. Had to take a last photo.
  24. I'm just about to take delivery of my 2017 2.5L Limited after 12 great years in a '05 LGT Limited. I notice from the photos here that no one seems to have had the protective side mouldings installed. These were standard equipment on my '05 and saved many door dings in parking lots. I'm planning on having them dealer installed on the '17. Does anyone have them on their 6th gen?
  25. Here's mine after 12 years, 13 Canadian winters and 178,500 km (111,000 mi.) - best car I've ever owned. I have more photos but they won't upload.
