Stock injector tuning is done. OEM injectors coming out soon. I may need or want to go back to stock injectors at some point, so I'm glad to have this tune in my quiver.

Virtual Dyno run on my favorite stretch of on-ramp - to - freeway spot.

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=234974&stc=1&d=1470210744

I'm going to call it 300hp / 325 ft-lb Dynojet numbers (VD says 265/285 Mustang numbers, but I don't know how accurate that is either) and not dwell on whether it is or not. I think those are ball park max stock injector 91 ACN numbers anyways, regardless of what turbo upgrade. Duty cycles clearly show injector limited. These numbers will be a reference point for the 850cc injector 91 and eventual E85 tuning. That's all that matters to me.

She is strong, great midrange, pulls sweet n sassy to 6k+ and is fun fun fun. But so is the tuning process! Looking to get the 850cc 91 tune dialed in, since that's what I will run most of the time, then get to tuning it on E85! :giddy!:

Looking through my runs, I'm going to back track on that 300 / 325 above since I really don't have another run that backs it up and go with a more conservative set of runs. Map #8 and Map #9 weren't very much different, just fine tuning. Check out how they overlap:

http://legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=235067&stc=1&d=1470260307

These are about 6 weeks and 13 degrees F apart, yet they overlap like I was trying to fake it. I set the calibration temperature to the intake temp from the logs after coasting down for a bit, and it's stabilized.

The more conservative number would be 290 hp / 305 ft-lbs.

It'll be interesting to see which one is more or less correct for my run spot and method as we go forward with the bigger injectors.

How do you like the 225/45/18 sized tire? Still thinking of going with a 245/45/17 (at some point)?

The slightly higher revs on the freeway don't bother you?

I've been thinking about this one for a bit. I like the OD of the 222/45/18. The 225/40/18 was too short, rpms too high on the freeway. The 45 is still snappy on the freeway, but not too buzy. I do come from a Honda background, including a 9k redline S2k AP1, so my tolerance for RPMs might be skewed.

But my driving patterns really are just daily driving cruising, and to be honest with myself, I'm looking for a balance of rpms/gear-ratio, appearance, performance, and mileage. I'd like to have 2-3 sets of wheels, including a meaty 245/45/17, a 235/40-or-45/18, and maybe a slightly pokey stretched blingly-trendy look. Is that gonna happen? *shrug*

I like my 18x8 +40s, but I don't love them, especially in the rear. I'd like to get a 18x9 +35, or 18x8.5 +30 with a 225 or 235 on it. Both would be ~16-17mm more flush. But I'm not really shopping for wheels right now.

Primitive skid plate, with extended header clearance stand offs (which are welded on btw):

What I want to protect:

The beefy skid plate. Really light, actually.

Remove these:

Put studs where those plastic bits were:

Studs installed:

Did it myself, so no more install pics.

Rear clearance:

Front clearance:

About 1" clearance to the header:

Installed. Tucks up nice and doesn't seem to hang too low.

I'd say the stand offs could be trimmed 1/2" to be fine tuned for my header. That would still leave some room for a serious dent without hurting the header, yet yield a 1/2" more ground clearance.

5mm spacers on the rear:

Clearly not hub centric:

Tightened very slowly in a star pattern, and torqued while in the air (against the parking brake). So far so good.

Before on left, after on right:

These are 18x8 +40s, so effectively they are 18x8 +35 now. Tires are 225/45.

From this, I'm feeling a 18x8.5 +35 with a 235/40 (or 235/45) should be perfection.

Exactly. I think the front has the room, with a wee bit more camber. Tire wear has been great, so I think it'll be fine.

I still want these AV-52s, in either bronze or silver:

Hrmm, I didn't look at what they weigh. didn't want to know! :p Aren't stock OBXT wheels 21lbs? And stock 225/55/17s are gigantor... I SWAG that these would be pretty close to the same net, depending on how wide a tire I end up with.

And they would not be my "track wheels", lol... strictly for daily freeway trudging...

Been a really long time since I updated this. Nothing added to the car, or changed out recently. I've been slowly (on my part) working with TA Mike on the 91 ACN tune with the 850s. I think we got it settled. Putting that one to bed for now and....

I did a thing:

32754082415_dfe029c0c9_b.jpg

Switched over to a very conservative E50 tune, that assumes winter E85 + left over 91 isn't going to be anywhere near 85% ethanol. It's running very smooth actually. Other than taking the usual extra long to turn over after a map switch, it learned quick and has been a perfectly smooth car in bumper to bumper traffic and +10 over freeway. Only 30 miles so far, but driven calmly, I can't even tell something changed.

I also took home ten gallons more so I won't get caught too far from the nearest station.

32712888886_bf48725413_b.jpg

I bought a battery operated pump for about $22 on Amazon that is supposed to ease and speed getting the gas from the jerry cans into the tank. I'll report back on that later.

I need to learn how to hijack either the TGV (I has them. ie: they are not deleted) or rear O2 sensor lines so that I can log the WideBand with BtSSM. I'll dig through the thread on that, and maybe put some notes in here. I don't want to do AP + laptop this time.

Tested the E85, and Yay!, it's E85! No winter blend in the middle of February is awesome!

31974380603_353cffb7d3_c.jpg

Tested what's coming out of my fuel lines using the fuel send line technique that this guy excellently demos:

Zip ties FTW!

Tested it, and it looked above E70, so loaded the E70 map. TA Mike gave me the okay to drive the car normally, saying that even E50 is awesome compared to ACN 91, lol! It feels really, really good on E50, but I can't say I can tell the E70 map is different. We haven't started tuning it yet, of course.

It's my daily, and a family car. That's why I went with a wagon. It's the long trip car too, since the wife's EVO has a teeny trunk and much more expensive wear items. So I have to keep that in mind with the mods and tread carefully. We do have a third car, but it's just for short trips do to a couple issues I am neglecting, so I can have the wagon down for a few days at a time, but hopefully not much longer than that.

My thought is that the VF52 on E85 should give me 18/20g power but with the reliability of an oem turbo. After the novelty of that tune wears off, I'll probably be on 91 most of the time. E85 would be a once in a while thing. I already average just 18mpg on my work day commute, and E85 would be 30% less than that? 12 mpg and more frequent trips to the farther away E85 station will get old fast.

Quoting myself. Math on my last tank of E85 was 12.5mpg. Nailed it.
