RooTBeeR's Cheapo Slow Poke "Build" Thread

Recommended Posts

I paid 200 for my 100,000 mile 04 STI cams lol.

I wanted as much new as I could get though.

That's where I was at, too - I think I talked him down to $150. Mine were technically fine, but, I bought a set from a local guy on NASIOC who has a heavily modded 05. The cams are identical, btw, between 05 STi and 05 LGT. The difference was that his motor was well-maintained and had the oil changed regularly, whereas mine was all kinds of burnish colored on the inside from some pretty significant neglect. A couple of runs through the parts washer at work and they looked WAY better than my original ones. Plus, I get to say I gots STi parts. :D

So, are they going to go in your butt before they go into your motor?

Obviously, that's why I got the lube. And I thought you were going to do it for me. Have plans changed?

It's still going to be awhile before I'm ready to assemble or install. I have a lot of things to buy still.

Off The top of my head, spark plugs, water pump, timing belt and pulleys, oil pump...

Got the new shortblock on the stand.

Cleaned all of the clutch material and grime off of the bell housing, and pulled the rear main seal out.

New one is on order.

well I just dont want it to physically fail or cause belt issues.

I figured that since i have a fluid filled tq converter weighing quite a bit, that going with the lightest pulley wasnt going to hurt me.

Your head was in the right place, for sure. But then again, I've been told that I'm "on my own" if I want to install a LWCP -- PIA doesn't advocate, sell, or install them.

The example I saw was an Agency Power LWCP and the bolt went in on a raised portion of the pulley. That raised portion cracked and broke at all 5(?)-ish sections where it attached to the rest of the pulley. I was told that that's the reason why they don't use them. When that shit fails, your motor goes kaboom.
