RooTBeeR's Cheapo Slow Poke "Build" Thread

Recommended Posts

I don't have a tuner yet.

The knock is from the higher CR on a stock tune.

I just remembered that that AP allows me to retard the timing up to -5°. So I'll see how much that helps first.

Keep in mind that's a global timing reduction, so when you get to the end of your break in and you start hooning it around, knock may actually get worse towards redline with full boost because the timing is so low.

Orrrrrrr, you can do a little calculation and manipulation to the timing in the OTS stage (whatever stage you are at the moment) map, and adjust WGDC so that you're running on wastegate boost.

I'd be too afraid to do it though :)

What sort of break in should I for for my new valve train?(bottom end has 14k on it already)

You con't need a break in for just new valves.

Get that car properly Tuned.

Knock is not good.

Valves, heads, cams.

Sounds good. After work I'm going to head over to the DMV and get my temporary registration so that I can go get it smogged. And hope it passes so that I can get my actual registration and then go down and see Mike about a tune

Paid my registration, now to go see if it'll pass smog.

And when I get home, ordering a downpipe, and talking to Mike about getting tuned.

Got a CEL on my way to work, got scared/saddened.

Which is just the cat low efficiency code, and I've no idea why it would suddenly be throwing that. Glad I got it smogged yesterday!

Had to use the built in reader since the latest APv3 firmware is messed up and gives me a fatal error when trying to check DTC's.

Did you force it ready with the AP? Otherwise I'm impressed it had enough of the monitors ready with how little driving you've said you've done. Either way congrats! Can't wait to hear about the tune!

Nope didn't know you could force them on, or you mean with the tune?

Had about 65miles, figured I'd try it. All went well.

They always say drive 50-60 miles to get the monitors in ready state.

I got lucky haha

Yeah, I'll have a minimum of $10k set aside just for this POS in the future. Haha

Gonna take me a good little while to get back up to that thiugh, and then have my regular savings on top of that.

How is stage 2 going to help with the high compression knock situation? And curious why Mike for tuning. We have WAY too many options here, it's literally given me decision anxiety. Church, Road Race (His name is also Mike, great guy, did my wife's evoX), Jesus/Jon (HBspeed -> Cobb -> 5150 Racing), Yimi Sport, Mike@Infamous, and of course Cobb. And I'm leaving out 3 or 4... I was hanging out with Shawn (Church) before he became a turner, back in my Honda days... and I also know Jon. But I like what Mike's doing with Delicious and the corn. I have no idea, but the time is coming soon to make a decision. We can take this one to PM if you want... don't need a tuning flame riot.

Stage 2 wont help knock lol... Less back pressure though?

I'm going with Mike/William(Bill) Delicious because I want to have a flex fuel tune. Run 91 or corn all willy nilly, no tune switching, no worry about how much of the other fuel is left in the tank when switching back and forth.

Oh, and I believe that this little turd is the one that replaces the TMIC o-ring... which I will probably have the TMIC off in order to do the downpipe because of the factory heat shields so I figure I might as well change it over.

Hard to tell, Is that DP need to be trimmed so it clears the waste gate ?

You'll need to trim the heatshield too.

It should be a direct fit.

But I guess I'll find out.

I know the heatshield won't fit without modification
