  1. sheesh. that bike must have forged internals and sound like a tractor when you first head out on the trails. maybe some nice Michelin tires too...
  2. DFM - design for manufacture. have some sheetmetal designs going into production over in china soon and was looking for feedback for cost or simplicity. it seemed fairly complicated and tight in one area but i guess not. all completly doable and no real way to simplify further. what DFM were you referencing? a fuel?
  3. stopped by the sheetmetal shop that makes the underbody plates for primitive. was there to talk through a prototype order for work and get some DFM. got a full shop tour. always interesting to see all the things the shops we send work to can do. drove the outback.
  4. that was the first thing i asked, although sarcasticly. "do you remember how to drive a manual?" ... as i handed my life keys away
  5. too cold right now to check, but will try to remember to take one off this afternoon to measure, and measure the room i have for an extension. had about a quarter inch gap without the plug in, so maybe half inch or a little more for decent fan/air movement. edit: or maybe an 05-07 would fit and be deeper... could ask a coworker if i could borrow one for test fit. several 05-07 outbacks in the parking lot.
  6. i checked my oil and tried to install some new lowbeams. need to modify to fit. oil level was good too. oh, and even filled it with gas!
  7. can confirm the dust covers don't fit over the hikari's on 08-09. gonna see about 3d printing an extension. bit of room till the airbox or washer fluid fill tube. lame that they won't install instantly though.
  8. hmm, they said $199.99 ($279.99 non-oem trade in) and $59.99 for shipping to portland (from florida). not sure about core or if they'd even sell one without a return core. prepaid return label too. so $$$, but for a good axle, kinda worth it depending on what you think of your car. also lifetime warranty. autozone has been a huge crapshoot for me.
  9. i was going to comment on how brave you are to drive into standing water just to take a picture. lol.
  10. just for clarity, when you say that your bulbs like to be horizontal, does that mean with one led up and one led down? or leds facing left and right?
  11. i replaced all my external non-headlight bulbs with sylvania zevo bulbs, except the license plate (too bright even with the non zevo). the rear side lights were the best to replace due to the heat/melting of the lens. what color bulb? didn't see it mentioned anywhere. edit: oh, you did say 5 to 6k. happen to know more specific? surprised they aren't 4 to 5k if they aren't blue.
  12. i'm don't think most 3d printed metal could do piston loads. i bet the molds are 3d printed instead. nice that printing can create such a break from the traditional for so many products.
  13. you could get dye, or ultraviolet dye, and add it into the oil. then just scan the engine bay with a UV light every time you stop driving.
  14. Is the 6MT boot shorter than the 5MT? i remember one of them being shorter than the other. Also, the real question is whether you can use a 6MT boot on the 5MT and have enough room in the leather to shift the 5MT.
  15. speaking of which, cleaning the rad and condensor fins is legit ans super easy. bought some cleaner for the home AC unit to gain back efficiency and to use on the car radiator and AC. will have to grab the name from the bottle in the garage. hadn't thought specifically about the radiator yet, but did use it on them both at the end of summer. and don't forget the underbody "aero" trays
  16. interesting. protect the radiator from radiant heat from the crossover exhaust pipe? good idea. all oem pipes are covered though, so i wouldn't expect too much radiation. should send it to Covert for full data analysis! and i'm only half joking. lol.
  17. from the map, it's in the middle of the ocean (Pacific)
