My E85 Raptor SC 2.5i build

Recommended Posts

For those that care.. I am being re-tuned by throttlehappy..

My tune was trash and I'll have new dyno numbers within a few months.

Also getting the v3 version of the rallisport header with a larger collector and no cat.

Can't wait to hear it with the v3 Rallispor header!

Who did your other tune?

A shop in Fort Worth, TX. It ran Ok and wasn't too lean or anything, but there's a lot of Maf scaling and load limits that had shortcuts around them. I don't understand it all, I'm just going but what I'm told from someone that does know. :)

I'm bored so here are a few photos. New tune v1 is loaded and we did some logging and maf voltage scaling. Its running quite well for a first version of the tune.

I saw proof in romraider of how well the water to air intercooler setup works, I know the SC doesn't create heat like a turbo, but I liked the numbers. We sat idling for about 20 minutes messing with the laptop and the intake temp got up to 168 degrees. Outside temp was just under 100. After two miles of driving 55mph, intake temp was 118 and another mile it was 109. Not bad for a hot day!

I first off would like to say cool build and please don't take what I'm gonna say as hate but I have some questions.

Why spend all that money to get 100hp more then the stock 2.5i one would think it would be better to have started off with a stock 05 LGT. Second the NA Subaru is not the best to boost. I have seen many turbo Impreza's fail. Is a super charger different?

It creates way less heat. And doesn't use the engine's oil. I think it's a lot more safe than a turbo setup.

I like my car, I liked it before the engine work, I had already invested money in the sound system and sound deadening, brakes, etc. I also wanted a challenge.

When I'm all done with tuning, I should be over 250whp, which is well over a stock GT and I like being different. It's a lot of fun to drive, like the power never stops building

Yeah our MAFs aren't made for the boost you are putting down. You may want to try a LGT MAF.

I've considered it, but it's never been a requirement from anyone at Raptor, the maP sensor is the one that is close to max, but I should stay just under the limit.

Sounds slow. ;-)

Seriously though, let me know when it's done. I'd love to get another ride and see if I can tell the difference.

Bored again, so here's a few photos. My pitch stop mount was twisting enough to cause a nasty sounding vibration, so it got replaced with a nice strong billet aluminum one. And we have been slow at work.. enough for me to fabricate an intake coolant reservoir and thermal wrap the lines.

just read all 17 pages of this thread. first i wanna say....awesome! You did some good work and it must be nice to have the technical skills to do your own build like that. I'm too damn scared to tackle or attempt stuff like this when im still making a payment!

It would be nice to get some more power out of my 2.5i but i know thats a far stretch from the real world of happening.

I just came out of a 2004 grand prix gtp. Loved having a blown car. Had a stage 2 kit on it. This makes me miss my gtp. I wish yours had more of WHINE though.

Over all....good stuff. Nice to see people experiment like this.

Thanks. It has been a fun project even though it has taken way Ionger than expected.

If you want a bit more power without tackling a huge project, you could get some OEM lgt injectors and fuel pump and a pro tune with e85 fuel. Heck even just a tune helps the feel a lot, I am going to get my girlfriends Forester tuned soon too.

Stopped by DW for a sticker today :)

Also dropped off a spare SC pulley at a machine shop to get shaved down.. since I have the silly automatic trans, my shifts are at 6k, so I am not reaching full boost. Gonna have the pulley shaved a bit so my peak boost is shifted down to 6k from 6.5k.

I am running Amsoil European Mid SAPS formula 5w40 oil now, not a drop burned after 1.5k miles. I'll send a sample off after 3k or so.

New headers will be here in a month or so, will get them ceramic coated then install!
