Nightmaresmk
Looks fun. yeah getting it moving you burn more clutch with the lighter flywheel. the wrx piece is lighter so u save weight with out sacrificing clutch life. My 00 legacy wagon has a 12lb flywheel revs like crazy but takes effort to get started lol. my 05 i have the stock sti clutch with sti flywheel. they work perfect for the outbacks weight. cww
did you have to change the fork for the sti setup? 5MT and 6MT clutch forks are different.  Long time lurker of this thread. Your car is weird and I love it.
Nightmaresmk
you can not use a 6spd clutch in the 5spd trans you have to just use a 5spd fork.

dustinsonger
so quick update. Got ahold of a heat treated crank, ordering a some custom rods and JE's fsr time attack series pistons (ill expand on this later). also doing an upgraded oil pump and custom king bearings, arp head bolts, tomei exhaust cam gears, and some other things. Deleted the tgvs and im going to do some very basic hand porting of those, blah blah.

boxkita
fsr pistons: SUBARU EJ257 BILLET FSR JE Pistons is proud to release the first billet racing pistons for Subaru EJ257 engines! Originally created for the Crawford Performance Unlimited AWD Time Attack Subaru and Ken Block's Gymkhana racecar, these pistons are now available to the public. The new pistons are 100% CNC machined from high quality 2618-T6 wrought aluminum bar stock and are specifically designed for high horsepower road and drag race engines. The pistons feature internal and external bracing for improved durability and strength. A unique "donut dish" crown and application-specific under crown profile properly redistributes heat and reduces stress concentrations experienced in high horsepower Subaru engines. Unlike forged pistons, the billet pistons are machined on every surface allowing for all unnecessary weight to be removed during manufacturing. The result of this new process is a weight reduction of up to 32 grams compared to other piston designs! High quality 9310 steel wrist pins and JE Pro Seal Rings are included. For severe racing applications, upgraded Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated wrist pins are available.   100% CNC machined billet pistonSpecifically designed for high horsepower Subaru racing engines up to 1200hpOnly 392 grams! boxkita
while googling for those pistons, I used "fsr time attack series pistons" as the search query. This thread was number 7 on the items returned. A few more posts, and you're going to be top-ranked. Build my car Boxkita Track days
dustinsonger
you guys need to remember this is my everything now... all i have in this world is going into this build... if i had the resources someone should have to do this i wouldn't be hand-building aero and doing this shit in driveways and friends garages... as it is, building my bottom end may have cost me the safety upgrades i needed to run pikes peak next year... I don't have sponsors and barely anyone gives a shit about an outback or what i can do on a track
boxkita
Wait, what? You're running pikes peak in the outback? That's seriously ambitious! Do you have a race thread on that? A paypal account for donations? Doing any facebook or cross-posting? Build my car Boxkita Track days
dustinsonger
Well I was planning on it, I got cleared for time attack 1, pikes peak open, or the exhibition class but I need major things like a cage and new seat and new harness and stuff. And no I havent done any of that stuff. Like I said no one gives a crap about someone trying to run an outback in stuff like this and I just dont have the money to get shit going

Like I said no one gives a crap about someone trying to run an outback in stuff like this and I just dont have the money to get shit going At least you have a good attitude going in.  In my experience taking my wagon to the track and later the miata, alot of ppl ARE interested. They want to be included. Share your trials (it's like TMI but for cars). Make it easy for them to be involved. You want sponsors? Make yourself sponsorship worthy. If they give you money, what do they get? Make a plan and work it. Reach out. You may only get free labor, however, free is free.  My crew chief takes days off from his high-paying job to come work on my Miata for free. The last time out, he took 2 days out of his no-other-breaks schedule to come work 3 days non-stop to get the Miata on the track. He does it because he gets to be involved in racing. He told me he normally pays big dollars just to get a pit pass (he gets a free one from me). If you really want sponsorship help, I know a guy who offered me his sponsorship guy (finds you sponsorships). Appearently, you pay him and he finds you deals. Forget this thread. Start a new one. Ditch the attitude. And start walking thru your process. Seriously a outback at pikes peak is awesome! Check around, talk to businesses, talk to ppl who can get you tv coverage or print coverage. Tell them about each other. Businesses want to get exposure. You'll have to decorate your car, however, they get their name in front of ppl who would never see it. win-win Build my car Boxkita Track days
bradze
I'm now much more interested now that I know you're building your car to do pikes peak. I can't decide which is more fun, road racing or rally. I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure you can get some kind of sponsor, who wouldn't wanna see what started out as nana's car blasting up a mountain? boxkita
both are fun. both are cheap to get started and expensive to do well. makes them both ideal hobbies. Build my car Boxkita Track days
Rhitter
Just look at the response to Sgt. Gator. All he said is "I bought this car." and people flocked to "caring" about him. Â If you can turn that into sponsorships I have no idea. But, people do car about seeing wagons race (idk why, it's just cool I guess). Remember it's just an LGT with cladding. I don't have sponsors and barely anyone gives a shit about an outback or what i can do on a track Pikes Peak is super dangerous. I've seen multiple roll offs, dudes dropping hundreds of feet, with nothing to save their ass except their safety equipment. Need to be ambitious in that department if you do the climb. If you do it would be nice to chat with you in person.  Precisely why I want to make sure I get my safety shit done right. I could build my own cage for next to nothing and I have friends who are insanely good certified welders but id just simply rather have a shop with experience do it. Hence why I probobly dont have the money for it anymore
