Hello guys, first post. Don't even own a Subaru yet, as I currently work for a rental company and have been driving a rental car for the past 6 years. However I am in the process of a career change, and one of the rental cars that I always prefer to drive is the 4-door Legacy. I'm in process of acquiring a 2011 Ruby Red Metallic 3.6R and plan on keeping it fairly stock but definitely needs some new wheels. I am a big fan of the Konig Oversteers before I even saw them on Unspoken's car, yet seeing them on his and the Silver Legacy have me sold on them. I am wondering if I can fit the 18x9.5 +42 without needing coilovers? If not I will just go with the 19x8.5 like Unspoken.

I believe you can fit the 9.5 without coilovers. The issue would be the width of your tire. You can't run wider than 245 without rolling/trimming feners.

I fit 9" +45 with no strut issue running 255 tires (17"), but I still needed fender work.

If you can find a 9", it may be ideal with 245 tires. Else, stay with the 8.5" and your wallet will be happier.

So if I run 245/40/18, I should be fine? I've researched pics of 245/40/18 tires on 9.5" wheels. Very minimal stretch as 245 tires are 9.6" width.

Test fitted the Miro 111 Very Matte Black 18x8.5 +35. Just about as flush as you can get without rolling or pulling fenders

wider is usually heavier, so decide what size tire you want to run, and what tire look you're looking for (stretch, minor stretch, square, fat) and then pick the appropriate width of wheel. That will minimize the overall weight of the tire/wheel combo.

Sometimes, between, say, an 8" and 9" wheel, the weight is the same. The manufacturer will use the same drum and roll it wider.

Get the wheel weight to know for sure.

Since I read your post about not having any special fender work done, you need to take that into consideration as well.

I got lucky with the tire that I run. It runs a bit narrow, so the fitment is not too bad. Same size tire from Bridgestone would have more section width. Your tire brand/make is a factor as well.

If sidewalls are super stiff, square-ish is fine. If you run a tire like Continental DW that has paper for sidewalls, you better have some stretch to keep it from rolling over on you.

In all honesty, if I were to do it all over again, even with Brembos, I'd run these:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=K6R090LG&wheelMake=Kosei&wheelModel=K6R&wheelFinish=Light+Grey+Painted&showRear=no&autoMake=Subaru&autoModel=Impreza+WRX+STI&autoYear=2004&autoModClar=

18.8# $169 a piece. And, I can still run 275/40/17

Whatever wheel you get, get something that will clear Brembos in case you go that route (if you haven't already).

You don't want to be stuck in a predicament where you want bigger brakes and are stuck because of your wheel choice (like I was).

I was looking at a few sets of 17s but unsure if they'd clear brembos.

I have a set eating for me but the guy is dragging his feet getting them off his sti

The 18x9 are cast monoblock and weigh...23.6

The 18x9.5 are from what I can gather 22-23lbs

^^^ if you search tirerack under 2004 STI, you will clear the brembos.

Everything beside the Kosei in 17x9 is 20-23 pounds.

What does the guy have on his STI?
