LGT replaced by Supercharged Shelby GT with mods

Recommended Posts

Glad you decided on the 17's, it will do the car much more justice and still look professional imo.

btw any new details on the wrx acquisition?

I might be interested in swapping cars for a cruise like you mentioned sometime, especially with your new tire setup as I don't care much for burning tires over forward momentum either :)

*plus I feel MUCH safer when I know I have a little traction in the lower gears*

Dave

Yeah Dave it's been pretty embarrassing driving with the 20's. Like I told you my friend with a 911 and I swapped cars and went for a cruise one day. He was driving my car right in front of me on an onramp and fishtailed... he put his hand out the window like "WTF??!". A WRX and I did a pull from 5mph to 55mph.. I shifted out of first around 3000rpms, then gave 2/3 throttle in second and shifted around 3500rpms, then put it in third and floored it.. by the time I did that the WRX had left me and I never had the chance to rocket by him as we were already doing 50mph and he had to turn. Just stupid... and it is 100% a function of just having a ridiculous tire from a performance perspective. I left the gym a couple weeks ago and gave it some good throttle... nearly spun the car around on 120th... bottom line is I HATE having to baby the throttle so much when 5-50mph is my favorite spot to go WOT.

We are still sitting on the sidelines as far as the FX45 replacement for my wife. Out top 2 picks are a 2009+ FX50 or a 2012-2014 WRX hatch. I am watching the ads almost daily but nothing special has popped up yet for either.

I went out and picked up some fronts and put 'em on. The meats for the back are coming in the mail tomorrow. I thought that I would take a small step back in looks since these 20's are awfully pretty and all. But hell no! This is going to end up looking a lot more like a proper muscle car that a pretty boy pony car. I'm loving it so far... I got a feeling see some rubber on the back will be even more satisfying!

EDIT: Almost forgot. I went to an empty parking lot and turned on the line locks and did one big nasty smokey burnout on those 20's... good riddance!

i 100% agree with you there it looks way more like a muscle car with those 17's those are the kind of wheels that belong on it. a meaty car like that needs some meaty tires to match.

edit: hell yea burn up them 20's

OH HELL YEAH!!! Got the new sticky wide rubber mounted and ready to rock. I can even go WOT in 1st gear (with a little spin then bite) now which is even better than I hoped for! Wow it is like an all new car... why did I wait 2 years to do this?!?!

When is the next time you're taking it to the track? I'm curious to see the results of the new wheels/tires.

I don't think I will. I wouldn't expect much of a dropoff versus my dedicated strip tires I used to have. My guess is my traps wouldn't change (be around 120mph) but I'd be 0.1-0.2 slower. My best is 11.53 @121 so I'm guessing 11.7x @ 120mph or so. (5860') I don't want to do burnouts on these new tires though... they are so amazing. I don't even spin in first! The only time I have spun in first is when I drove on them just cold... but as long as I've been driving for a few miles and they've warmed up, these things just simply hook up. Anyhow, I want to keep them like this and don't want to do track burnouts.

Ah interesting. Well I love what you've done with the car and I'm glad you can hook up now. Keep it up.

^^ Thanks.

I upgraded the tail lights to 2013-style today. Here is a comparison pic of my old tails and old wheels/tires (on the right) versus the new stuff on the left. I can't explain it, but in person the new tails look a lot better than the stock tails even though they really don't look better in the picture.

Here is a pic at dusk with the lights on:

Bonus youtube video walkaround wth engine running... really strange how the camera picks up on the individual LED's... to the naked eye it looks much more smooth. I set the idle 50rpms lower recently... love the sound!

Looks much better than stock, I like how they keep the original stock design but add a modern twist to them. Always like the sequential lighting, really catches your eye when a blinker is on.

LED tails and front corners were the first mods I ordered for the Corvette, appears we feel the same way about that mod in addition to supercharged v8s:)

These are the Raxiom Gen5's.

With the lights off, the tails don't look that good in pictures... but in person they look great even with the lights off.

I'm pretty picky about mods... didn't want to change them just to change them although I think the '05-'09 tails are a weak spot. These ones update the rear end to the 2013 factory style, so they really look like a natural fit.

Here is a real 2013 for reference:

I did a minor mod this week and bought tint for my front signals and rear side markers. The rears didn't really need it much since they were dark red, but the big orange front signals definitely looks better. The second picture is an old one (with old wheels/tires) for comparison sake.
