LGT replaced by Supercharged Shelby GT with mods

I was hogging the mountain west chat thread so figured I'd just make my own thread.

 

I finalized details and made my deposit today and should take delivery of the 2007 Shelby GT tomorrow.

 

My LGT is for sale here - update **SOLD** in 48 hours

 

I am picking up a Shelby GT tomorrow that has spent most of its life as a show and strip car. A couple of weeks ago it won best of show in Colorado for the Shelby class. It also won best of show in the Shelby class at the Sturgis Mustang rally. So, it is damn pretty and has 16k miles. Looks brand new. Owner had to point out the only little rock chip on the front end.

 

And it is fast. At 5860' altitude, where stage 2 LGT's run 14.1-14.5 and trap 100-102mph, this Shelby has run a couple 11.5's on 91octane and on street tires. It has cut a 1.59 60' and several 1.6x's. Traps around 123-125mph.

 

Dyno 510whp/484tq on dyno with 1.13CF. Very linear power and 400wtq right off idle. No waiting.

The thing still has more room for easy power. I will be converting the beast to run on E85, be upping the boost to 13-14psi, and getting a dyno tune. (Currently just has an e-tune).

Freaking. Sweet.

 

Those 3 valve cars LOVE boost big time. And it looks like all the mods are done using good, quality parts. I keep teasing my old man that he should drop the coin for the Detroit Rocker cams for his 05. They sound damn good. Awesome upgrade no doubt.:cool:

Yes. I can expand on that. This is a whipple supercharger, which is used in the GT500. This one is better than the one that comes in the GT500 (but I need to find out the details about this...). Previous owner had the Ford dealer install it so that it would be under warranty. The previous owner will be handing over all the build receipts, around $50k total including $38k window sticker.

 

Before anyone asks, NO I do not plan on driving this in the snow. :lol:

Before anyone asks, NO I will not be driving around with 3 other 6'2 220 pound guys.

Picked it up today and it is sitting in the driveway alongside the LGT. I got a guy coming over to look at the legacy. After 20 miles of driving I very much miss my LGT brakes (the big Stoptechs), the A/C, the homelink mirror, and the seatbelt (getting the seatbelt is now a 2-handed operation.. and difficult at that.) I really like the instant throttle response and the sound. Floor it and immediately 8psi boost. (The previous owner took off the 12psi pulley and put on the 8psi pulley.. so I could "get used to it first". Wish he hadn't but I will change back this week.) This thing sounds mean as hell, even driving casually. Very loud and grumbly. Then I floor it and get the whrrrrrr of the supercharger. Great sounds! Although I love the LGT sounds too. More later.. and pics.

Holy crap!! The thing is nuts. I took several friends out and everybody was giggling and holding on. I mean totally overboard muscle car. Loud and mean. I'm so used to short-shifting the Subaru and the Shelby pulls harder and harder... the last 1000rpms are awesome. Lots of pics coming tomorrow! Crazy fun... loud and flashy.. not my style but definitely a hoot!!

 

And... the LGT sold. New buyer to pick up Thurs. ;(

Insta-Torque is great. I remember being able to drive home from work in my GTO in 6th gear, at 35mph, at 1000rpms and never having to downshift to go up hills or accelerate. I actually drove that car slower than my LGT because of this.

Well they do come stock as it is a factory car. I agree though the shelby GT package isn't too much to brag about. I think it just has a few bolt on power upgrades and some supension work. Obviously it has some badges and other cosmetic tweaks. The OPs car though is supercharged and putting down some decent power.

It gets a mild bump in power, mild weight reduction, different suspension, different axle, different exhaust, hurst STS (and yes a shitload of cosmetic stuff.) A decent analogy is Shelby to Mustang as is Spec B to LGT.

 

Ford ships the car to the Las Vegas Shelby facility to do all the work. So you take a $32k Mustang GT and add on a $8k Shelby package. Probably not the best way to spend $8k, but it does stand out on the track or street versus the Mustang GT. To me all that is cool but I am a lot more excited about what was done to this particular car after the factory anyways... have $12k in additional receipts for the Whipple SC, full exhaust, cams, wheels, one-piece lightened driveshaft, etc.

 

You actually get 2 window stickers with a Shelby.. one from Ford and one from Shelby.

 

Here is my Shelby sticker, FYI, so you can see that were actual mechanics doing some work not just stylists. ;)

It is cool you get two window stickers but why is shelby charging you a gas guzzler tax on an upgrade package? Does that mean ford charges a gas guzzler tax and then shelby? That would suck

 

I know you didn't buy the car new legend so you wouldn't have paid the gas guzzler tax I was just asking the question in general.

^^ Beats me! I've also got the sticker from Ford. There is no gas guzzler tax on the Ford invoice. I noticed the Ford sticker for fuel economy says 17/25 and the Shelby says 16/23. I don't know what Shelby did to lower fuel economy. Funny that you don't pay the gas guzzler tax until you cross the line to Shelby..

Does shelby put those 3.55s in there or ford? The gears or the tuning would be the only things that would really effect mpg. And I can't see the tuning lowering the mpgs by a significant amount.
