Just looked up density altitude for the track tonight.. 9,008 feet. Not good, but I've seen worse at Bandimere. Official reported temp at 6pm was 90F so disregard that 100F scale pic above..

My cousin is a regular photographer at Bandimere... he sent me 22 pictures. Here is a series staging and launching. At first I was really happy that the car looks nearly perfectly level throughout the launch. Then I realized it should look level since it never grabbed and just spun... I need to look through all the photos and decide on a few to make prints from. If anyone else is going in coming weeks let me know and I'll have Steve get some photos if he is there.

I've had plenty of time now to think about additional mods. The car doesn't really need much but here is what I have planned:

Tires and wheels:

Problem: Drag racing on 20's and street tires produces terrible results. The car comes with 18's so 20's are a "plus 2" size that looks fantastic but I'm sure the extra weight does eat some power. And trying to put down 510whp on a pair of 35 series street tires just means lots of spinning.

Solution: For tires, I'll go with Hoosier Quick Time Pro's. They are street legal drag slicks, so I can swap out my tires and wheels in my garage and head to the track. I still need to figure out the exact specs I want, but will go with a 16" wheel so I can get a LOT of rubber. For wheels, I don't care much, but will go with something light.

I expect my second set of fun tires/wheels to weigh HALF, or less, than my 20" street setup... and have 10x the traction. I expect to cut 0.5-0.8s off my 1320 times by this alone... at least half of that coming from an improvement in my 60's from the current 2.1-2.2's to 1.6-1.7's. I should gain 2-4mph in traps too.

Timeframe: 1 month

Ran out of time to discuss other plans... will get back to this soon.

Crummy news today, depending on how you look at it. I went out and logged the Shelby to see determine my current fueling headroom for both injectors and fuel pump as I get closer to jumping to E85.

Turns out that even with my GT500 fuel pumps I hit 100% fuel pump duty cycle at around 5000rpms on 91oct... so I've probably been running lean at high rpms(!) So, I'm bummed I am adding fuel pumps to my E85 conversion shopping list, as I thought the pumps would suffice, but glad I now know that they are insufficient even on 91oct so I won't pull past 5000rpms for now. So the "good" news is that this knowledge might help me avoid blowing my new engine...

More crummy news revealed in logs.. my whole tune sucks. Turns out the map isn't defined well enough for the power I'm putting down. At around 4500rpms my load flies off the end of the map into undefined territory.. so my whole tune past 4500rpms acts as if it is still at 4500rpms.. same spark, fueling, etc.

The incredible news though is that I have found a mentor for tuning!! I'm going to get a lot of remote help as I tune this thing and the tuner and I will meet up at a dyno to finalize the tune and dial in fueling. I'm stoked!! So I think there is good room for improvement and I'm excited to learn this new platform. I won't likely be ready to run Bandimere again this year because I don't want to proceed faster than I can learn... and with a job and family I can only give this hobby of tuning so much time.

Yay just picked up these tires and wheels. Picture is from previous owner. He sold me what you see pictured here minus the rear rubber... he wanted to keep that for his 2013 Supercharged GT beast just finished building. I ordered some new Hoosiers for the rear and am going 1" taller than what is pictured here.. 26" pictured, brand new 27" shipping Monday. Hello 11's!

Thanks Bolskey. I remembered I had one last really cool picture to share of the last time I'll ever race on street 20" tires... I like how black n' gray this one is.. almost looks like a greyscale photo.. and how the track stripes feed right into the stripes on the hood. Next time out though I'm not pretty... I'm mean.

Excited to see the difference as I'm sure it will be significant. Plus you will have even more drive time under your belt.

Good first mod....:)

Congrats on the new ride...

Didnt read the entire thread but does 100% fuel pump duty= 100% IDC? Our pumps go to 100% too..doesn't really mean much if the injectors have more headroom.

Unlike the LGT, the fuel system is returnless. So the fuel pump duty goes a long way in determing the fuel pressure at the injector. When the fuel pumps get maxxed out, it means the fuel system is doing all it can to maintain adequate pressure at the injector. Sorta. One of the mysteries of my current tune is that the tuner (etune), programmed the car to run at a much higher fuel pressure than normal. That could have been done because the engine is under 12psi boost, or the injectors are on the small side, or some other unknown reason. It is impossible to tell because the tuner locked down the tune so neither me or my tuner know the real answer as to why the fuel pumps are maxxed out.

If my fuel pumps (2 pumps, both a GT500 high capacity pump and the stock GT pump) aren't sufficient, I will look into getting dual BAP's and/or converting to a returnless fuel system.. I really don't like either of these options much. My fueling pump setup produces around triple than of a stock Mustang/Shelby GT, so it is already a significant improvement, but may not be enough to handle 550rwhp on E85. I may abandon going E85 if further fueling improvements (other than injectors) are necessary.

Getting psyched to go the strip tomorrow. The huge new mod is tires, and I've set goals for tomorrow and also goals for spring, when I will probably be running E85. Then I'm done modding this thing. Of course I am constantly comparing the new ride to the LGT, and still I think the LGT compares very favorably.

First, here is my spreadsheet of my best LGT time and my best Shelby street tires time. The numbers in black are actual results. The next 2 columns represent my goals (in blue) from my next 2 mods (drag tires and E85). Tomorrow I'll be gunning for the numbers in column 3. With the new tires, my goal tomorrow is 11.82 @ 121.1mph. Yes, I'm expecting to improve by >0.7s and 4-5mph with just the change in tires. What a huge mod. The most significant gain will be in the first 60', where I should gain 0.4s right there. Keep in mind that my street tires are a big 20" heavy aftermarket setup. My drag tires and wheels (all 4), are 15", so not only will I have a huge traction advantage, I'll have a weight advantage as well.

I graphed the numbers also.. you can really see my frustration with the street tires if you compare my Shelby run (red) with my LGT run (blue). The LGT kills the Shelby on the 60' by 0.4s (probably 3-4 car lengths) but after that I start pulling hard on the LGT but never catch it... back half is 0.2s quicker and 2mph greater gain.. but still the LGT wins by 0.1s despite going >5mph slower at the finish. Would be a fun race to see!

Going from way heavier than stock to way lighter than stock is an unreal difference! Car feels more responsive and tires don't spin going WOT in second. My 20" street tires/wheels are an extremely porky 59lbs per corner. My drag fronts tires/wheels are 22lbs and drag rears are 39.5lbs. So I shaved off 113lbs of rotating mass... damn... that should help!

Nice, now all you gotta do is get that heavy ass mod engine out the front and you will see some real weight savings. Just kidding, it is my GM haterness showing through:lol:

Good luck to you

Actually i was thinking of possibly the following wednesday but dont want you to wait for me cause its not set in stone yet. I may know before this wednesday though.

Im actually thinking of retuning with a dry filter "custom built" intake im looking at designing similar to the ks tech. I should really make some runs before i make the switch as thats one more variable that could keep me from the track this year and i really want to make it up soon.

Sorry to hear about your co-workers loss.

Hit 2 of 3 goals tonight my first time racing with slicks.

60': 1.708 (goal was 1.73) ;)

e.t.: 11.58 (goal was 11.82) ;)

trap: 120.22mph (goal was 121.10)

First 4 runs all 11.88-11.99 at 119-120mph. Still really not sure why my last run had a better e.t. since the trap and 60's weren't all that much better than the other 4 runs. But I'm really happy with that 11.58 for my first time out with it.

DA was 7618' (not bad for Bandimere), 66F at time of the best run. Corrects to sea level equivalent of ~10.8 and ~128mph if anyone cares.

In the picture below is a friend of mine and his work in progress... currently at 550whp, his CTS-V wagon (supercharged, cams, exhaust), will be getting some more goodies and should tickle 700whp by spring. The timeslip, below, is him versus me... his worst run of the night and my best.. He runs right around 12.0 at 116mph on street tires.
