Steven are you going to autoX next year?

No I dont think so. Im too afraid that ill embarrass myself there running over too many cones or not knowing the right path to take between cones.

Are you?

Just curious, what was the transmission issue? If it was posted earlier in the 28 pages of randomness I apologize.

Well those of you who were at the LGT dyno day, know that I was unable to get power to my rear wheels and also was making some weird noise. The consensus was that the center diff was the problem.

So I set aside money for the center diff and just sent the car out to Alberto at Motive Auto Works. He and his transmission specialist looked at it and were bewildered and dont think its the center diff. He did find out that the front left caliper is stuck and needs to be replaced. So I will prob go with an aftermarket one because its cheaper. But this doesnt mean the problem will be fixed. Its a big possibility that it will fix it, BUT i am still preparing for the worst. Although, it would be clutch if the problem was just the caliper. Id save SOO much. Which means.... more mods !

Anyways, I am excited to see what the fixing of the caliper will do. But I'm trying not to get my hopes up !

Well tonight was quite the night.

It started in the wee hours of the evening when I get a call from my mechanic. He decided to go to work today so that maybe he doesnt have to go in tm because of the weather. Anyways, so my car was finished. Bad news was that he was leaving soon and I was on my way to my cousins birthday party. We did some quick thinking and thought of having him just lock the keys in the car and then id come with my spare key. All was going well and I was excited to get my car back.

Fast forward till after the party and on my way home. I changeg into my jammies and slippers because its like an hour drive to get my car so I wanted to be comfortable. So I hopped in the car with my dad and we set out at 8pm. We arrived to the shop around 9pm and I was bursting with glee. I grabbed my stuff and told my dad to follow me to the gas station because when I gave it to the mechanic the gas light had already come on. I set the trip to 0 when the light first came on. I walked towards the door and took out the spare key. I looked down and just as I was about to put the key in the lock, I remembered that my driver door handle was broken. I usually entered from the rear door and then stuck my arm through and opened it. So the driver side unlocks and no other door does. The key fob is in the car and useless at this point.

So I have to hop back in the car and call AAA. They said about 45 min-60 min before a locksman could get there. So we rode around and found a Pub 99. We got out and I was greeted with a puddle. My slippers were soaked. We walked in and sat at the bar and watched the Denver v New Orleans game till AAA called. 45 min passed and I got a call that the guy was around the corner. So we went back to the car and he unlocked it for me. So now I got into the car and told my dad to follow me to the gas station. I looked down at the trip and it said 44 miles ! I had gone 44 miles already with the light on ! I figure I have MAYBE 15 miles at most to get gas but luckily I knew there were two gas stations right up the street.

We drive down the street and i got to the gas station but the were closed ! Im starting to get nervous. Im about to run out of gas and Ill haveta call AAA again !! So I typed into my gps another gas station. It was 2.2 miles away. It was a big chunk of gas that was risking on. By this time it was almost 11pm. So we get to the gas station the gps told me and there closed as well !! My father and I were discussing our next plan of attack when a cop was driving by. I honked my horn and told him the problem and he told us where we could find a 24/hr gas station.

Off we go to a destination 4 miles away. Its was nerve racking. Alas we find the Shell station and we both pull into the station. As I walk towards the pump, the lady inside comes out with yellow bags and yells that they are all out of gas !! WTF ?!!? Everybody was so damn worried about this storm that they took all the gas ! She said there was another shell station like a mile down the road. So we hit the road again and pull up to the station. The pumps had white bags on them and paper on the pump. I pull up next to the pump and it reads "93 only". I was like "phewffff" !! 93 pump gas for the mother effin win !!

I filled up but my dad who just had his light turn on couldnt put that stuff in his mazda 6. So I typed in my home address and we headed towards home. Luckily we came across another gas station and he was able to fill up. Then we set in for the hour trip back and I got home at about 10 past midnight.

Long night, but my car is fixed, filled with gas, and safe from the storm in the garage.

Summary

Colleague of Alberto was there with him looking at it and both determined it wasnt center diff. Alberto did discover a stuck driver caliper. So he fixed that and its getting power to the rear wheels. Although I think he said it was getting power to the rear wheels before so Im not sure about that dyno...

Not knocking on the dyno or anything, but the first two people of the day in a row with differential problems... a little fishy to me. But what do i know ;)

Im really itching to bring it to Bren to dyno tune and get proof of power, but afraid it wont dyno and ill be stuck paying the dyno fee for nothing.

Interesting... Definitely wasn't getting any power to the rears on the dyno. Every other car after yours was fine with zero changes to the dyno.

I know this. Thats why I didnt want to fully blame the dyno. But the stuck caliper could have caused the issue. But again, the mystery continues.

Neil, help me out. Do 05/06's have traction/stability? That might explain what cut power to the rear if one of the front was locked up

AFAIK 05-06 didn't have any traction control. just a VLSD rear diff.

From the '06 brochure

Variable Torque Distribution (VTD)

All-Wheel Drive

Models equipped with 5-speed automatic transmission utilize an electronically controlled variable transfer clutch in conjunction with a planetarytype center differential, and a viscous-type limited-slip rear differential. Torque distribution is normally configured at a performance-oriented

rear-wheel-biased 45/55 split front-to-rear. Sensors monitor parameters such as wheel slippage, throttle position and braking to help determine torque distribution and direct it to the wheels with optimum traction.

Continuous All-Wheel Drive Models equipped with 5-speed manual transmission utilize a viscous-type locking center differential with torque distribution normally

configured at a 50/50-split front-to-rear. If wheel speed differs between front and rear axles, the system helps distribute power to the

wheels with the most traction. 2.5 GT Limited models also equipped with a viscous-type limited-slip rear differential.

On 07+ you can turn that nonsense off and have fun.

Although, in the 07 manual these are two separate entities

Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)

Traction Control System (TCS)

You can turn VDC off, but I'm not sure how it affects TCS. Either way, when I turn VDC off, I can actively have fun :)
