Max Capacity
Update, the engine has about 1800 miles on it, runs great. I had a crack in the hose with the boost pill in it. Mike at Tuning Alliance fixed that on Sunday. When the car thru the CEL last week, P0244 I think it was, I looked around but couldn't see the crack. Mike found it no problem. Younger eye's. He replaced the hose, did a quick data log, all is fine. Last night, I had the right front hub off in about 30 minutes. Open the Moog box that I ordered from Advance Auto Parts on-line to see that I ordered a rear hub. Oh well, I want to replace the right rear soon anyways. That's the last of the OEM one's. I called the store at 7:45 AM they will have a front for me at 11AM, I'll grab it on the way home at 4PM. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Scooby2.5
Will figured its time to post up my own thread. Over the past weeks I have been collecting parts. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4650.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4652.jpg http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x40/92Si/DSCN4653.jpg That's a EJ257 short block, Spec 2 clutch and new flywheel insert for the Aluminum FW in the wagon.  I will use the vf52 that has about 11,000 miles on it now. NICE an AAAA block WOW! Nrw
I want to say it has something to do with the tolerances when subaru was building the block. Like they were all in line the first time around. I could be wrong my brain is a little fuzzy this morning.
08Legacy08
Subaru offers two different diameter pistons, A and B... the bores in a subaru engine are not all the same; they come in different configurations. For example an AAA block is a block where all cylinders are the same size, AND are the smaller of the two different diameters. Some blocks are BBB (same deal). What people tend to avoid is the ABAB blocks - etc. I'm not sure if there's an ABBA AAAB etc. however. The engine I'm building now is ABAB... the one in my car now is an AAAA. I hope that helps! Max Capacity
Thanks, for explaining that. I'm about the turn 5000 miles on the engine tonight. I have 3000 miles on the Amsoil 5w-40. Had to add a little bit the other day.  I'll check it again after work, I wonder if it will be over full this time. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Max Capacity
I know we talked about that. I'm still ok with the stock set-up for my HP goals. I do understand some have had issues with the stock pistons. It turned over 5000 miles last week, still runs get. I did replace the final wheel bearing on Saturday, car was very quiet on the drive into work today, just the normal tranny noises and the TB howl. Oh, yea and a few dash board rattles. Edited September 17, 2012 by Max Capacity 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. Oh, yea and a few dash board rattles.  Yeah, I went through 3 sets of pistons/motors all replaced under warranty on 2 different 2.5t cars, and the drivelines were stock on all 3. If I ever had to replace them on my own dime, I would go with at a minimum forged pistons. Bast
This definitely gives me a lot to think about in regards to fixing mine. I was just going to go with EJ255, but maybe I'll just do the 257 instead. Thanks for all the info!

A friend a work was have problem with his 2012 STi. At moderate load, between 2700 rpm & 3200 rpm. The car would hesitate, then take off. Then I took him for a ride in my stage 2+ LGT ( with, STi 6MT & tune by Mike a Tuning Alliance) . He said, wow, your car pulls harder & your motor runs smooth all the way too the red line. I told him, IMO, take it back to the dealer, because it's under warranty. I think theirs a flaw in the OEM tune. Like the hesitation issues with some of the early 05 Legacy GT had. That went away after a aftermarket tune was flashed. He took it back to the dealer. The tech. was able to repeat his problem, but could not fine the cause. After 3 wks. with the issue not fixed. He picked up his car & traded it in.  Mike Edited September 29, 2012 by HAMMER DOWN Mileage:331487 Retired/Sold
Max Capacity
I'm meeting with Mike tomorrow morning to have him clean up or trouble shoot my slight stumble at part throttle acceleration under boost. I can lift a bit and the stumble seems to stop and the power increases a bit. I'm thinking it could be boost control, as I'm all stock in that area. Here's his facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/TuningAlliance he's also back on this forum. I guess he has a little more time now, he must have finish his projects around the house he bought. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
