Balrock
Did you ever figure out what turbo you were going to use? Who is doing the tune? Love all the goodies! I'll do the same thing when mine blows up....hopefully never! LOL
jblackwell1
Ive got a local guy who wants to do it and ive contacted phatron whom im leaning towards using (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2200994). Turbo ive finally decided is going to be the blouch 2.5 gtr
MrHellrais3R
If your going to just use an etune then I highly recommend contacting shamar on the forums here. He's very knowledgable and extremely reputable. Might as well stay local (lgt.com) than venturing on to nosiac to find an etuner.
jblackwell1
A friend suggested him and with my turbo and similar set up i had seen numbers right at what i wanted. Ill look up shamar, thanks for the heads up.
MrHellrais3R
No problem. Look up infamous1, that's who you need to talk to. He can do ap or opensource tuning. Most peope on the forum were tuned by him, I that's not good enough for you, go ask him for some of his stg2, stg3+ tunes lol.
jblackwell1
I will, i think that was the other guy i was supposed to look at but didnt know he was on the forum here. How do the stage things work any way? What stage am i gonna be, new to this stuff still.
MrHellrais3R
You'll be like 3.5+ I'd say. Anything after 3 is pretty much open to interpretation. Idk what to call mine anymore lol. Stg 1 = just a tune, stg 2 = up/dp and tune (more can be added but that's the most basic), stg 3 is upgraded fuel system, turbo, and other supporting mods. After that then it's pretty much open. There's a sticky that covers it somewhere, idr where right now. I forgot to add that shamar's prices are better than the other guy lol. $200 for stg3+ I believe. jblackwell1
Got ya. Ill probably go with him then, id like to have someone on here do it since this is the forum that im constantly on trying to learn about this car since i got engine deep in it the day after i bought it haha. No time to do the usual skimming and build up knowledge like i usually do. Forums been great with handling my noob questions.
MrHellrais3R
Well your not a noob to engines so that makes it easier. Just the small things you just have to read up on and learn. Let me know how you like the fms fmic. Was thinking about getting one, just unsure about it because of losing the bumper beam.
Balrock
Shamar is awesome. I made 320 whp on my 18g on a mustang dyno with is e-tune,supporting mods of course. With an 05 all you need is an eBay vag-com cable for like $15 and rom raider and ecu flash which are both free and shamar can make you a happy man. jblackwell1
Great thanks for the heads up. Ill try to find one now so i can be ready for it, hoping to make close to 400 but anything close to 350whp ill be happy with.
jblackwell1
Hey guys with the set up i have listed here should i get stock plugs or 1 step colder? trying to order some but wasnt sure which was ideal for my setup
MrHellrais3R
I say go step colder but that's kind of an ever going argument. It's right up there with oil choice lol.
jblackwell1
Ah got ya. Ill go a step colder just to be different lol. I got some work done today! Got my Fast Motorsports FMIC mounted, took a little massaging but its on and im very happy with the quality of it thus far. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2/jeeped07/Legacy%20GT%20Build/061.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e2/jeeped07/Legacy%20GT%20Build/058.jpg
MrHellrais3R
Looks good man, your not worried about not having the bumper beam anymore? Only thing holding me back from getting the fms fmic.
jblackwell1
Well if i were able to keep it thatd be great, but not having it doesnt make me worried. If i was just doing a FMIC right now i would def fab up something with more protection and probably will down the road, but for right now this will do. While the mount isnt the same as a bumper it will serve as a bit of protection...AFTER my front mount is crushed haha.
sumfoo1
Good choice on turbos. Phatron is a good tuner too, he's also a good help to build the car. Are you going IWG or EWG with the turbo? I'm going to put a similar sized IWG turbo on my car at some point in time. I really think the 2.5xtr is one of the best available for a D.D. spools quick and makes big power. Max Capacity
Looks good man, your not worried about not having the bumper beam anymore? Only thing holding me back from getting the fms fmic. It's over rated. You get used to not having it. I found it helped me keep a greater distance from the guy I was following. Not a bad thing. See the FMIC in my avatar. That was a DD for a couple years. I can post a clearer picture if you'd like. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). MrHellrais3R
Haha makes you respect the rear end of other cars. That might be a good thing for me. I'm an asshole to super slow drivers on back roads. My only concern is with deer around here, they normally always hit high but with no bumper beam to deflect just In case, you could be shit out of luck then. If it were all city driving I wouldn't care either way, I keep my distance in traffic purposely. And sry not trying to thread jack JB, lol. jblackwell1
your fine, the more the merrier. However i just got back from the machine shop and my heads are fine, gonna do new valves, port and polish and hot tank the heads and they are gonna assemble my motor to the point of setting the timing. Should have an engine going into the car in a week or week and a half. YEE HAW

Do not think for a second that anyone who gave me tips, hints, or suggestions that i did not take them into account. Anyone who has helped lead me in the right direction or given me good info i have listened to, maybe not thanked enough but def appreciated. The ONLY reason i took them to a specialist was because pictures sometimes dont do things like that justice and i wanted to be sure. Again i appreciate you and everyone else who has helped me along thus far. haha
Max Capacity
Don't worry some of us are lucky enough to live in a area that has great machine shops. Through our drag racing contacts, we have seen some amazing things done to save a head. Were all here to help each other. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
