Here are some videos as promised. Paul said the weird noise when coming off the gas is the throttle body mixed with boost, nothing to worry about.

I'm not sure how to put the videos in the post so here are the links for now.

Drive by, after 16 seconds, skip to around 48secs to see the end, it took longer for me to turn around than I thought it would take. After watching the video the car sounds so mean going by in 2nd while being on it a little.

Sounds nice!

Looks good Brian! Nice install and writeup.

The one thing about this kit I would change would be that BOV i despise that blow off note  I prefer a cleaner purge like the Synchronic or the GFB 50/50 :)

No BOV or BPV on the kit. The sound you hear is compressor surge. The air from the intake track is coming back off the closed throttle plate and through the inlet of the turbo. It's also commonly referred to as a 'flutter dump'. Not the best for the turbo, but at only .5 bar, it's not going to cause any serious issues for a LONG time.

If you look at the inlet piece, these is a bung on the side that is blocked which is for a BPV recirc line. Tapping any of the charge pipes for a quality BPV and then running the line to there will get rid of the surge and help you get back into boost a bit sooner after lifting the throttle as the turbo doesn't have to do more work to spool back up.

Brian, if you are interested I still have a 1G DSM BPV that will work, you'll just need someone to weld the flange onto your cold side piping. I don't have access to a TIG. A Bosch valve works great too and can be picked from almost any VW or Saab in the junkyard and only needs a 1" bung on the charge pipe to connect to.

Thanks i know full well the effects of Compressor surge and why some guys run a BPV, 50/50 or a BOV VTA.

 (not to be an azz :) )

Even full race guys dont run a valve with the logic that the throttle plate is only closed for a fraction of the time and the time it is closed isnt enough the stall the turbine wheel.

Thanks! I actually picked up a Cobb radiator shroud and not to sound like an idiot but it really does seem to help so far. I also was looking at an hks ssqv and I really love the sound! I want one!

Turbo blanket installed. It was simple yet a little bit of a pain at the same time. The pain part were the 2 springs you have to attach to the top of one end of the blanket and then the sides of the other end. It's pretty well set even without the springs. One cut was made to fit past the actuator which you can see in the photos. I haven't driven with it too much yet, I'm planning on driving around some tomorrow with the near 100 degree weather we're supposed to get here! I did use a heat reading gun on it after driving it quick on the highway and the blanket was 200F while last time I tested the turbo after driving for 40 minutes on the highway was 550F.

Is that a bov in the picture? How's it sound? I just hit 1300 with my turbo on I feel like it's much more broken in

It is a BOV. I'm still waiting on one piece so I can install it.

That's good, I haven't calculated what mileage I'm at recently. But I still love it, the sound, the torque, it never gets old.

Same here you going to wbm this year I'd be pumped to see your set up in person.

I definitely am, I can't wait!

Update on the turbo blanket: I took the car out this afternoon, even though it hasn't reached 100F here, it is 90F in the sun. The turbo blanket ranged from 200F-240F and the turbo was 450F+ It looks like it is doing it's job pretty well. So far I'm happy with it. Keeps the heat down near the wiring, that's a huge plus.

Another Question I have is: What feeds the Turbo oil? it is above the block so it can't be gravity...right ?

Check page 4 for a picture of the oil line feed, there is a spot near the alternator that provides oil for the turbo. I believe it is the oil pressure sensor possibly.

Nice! I think that is the oil sending outlet or rather where one would place a oil pressure gauge

Yup, it's not too hard to deal with. Just a little tight of an area. An angle adapter on an extended socket will do the trick.

And THE RZA, are you talking about the turbo set up?

Update:

The turbo is still running strong. Put some miles on it again this past weekend. I love not having to shift out of 5th on the highway unless I go below 40 or 45 mph, hill or not.

The turbo blanket really helps keep the heat down in the engine bay. I am really glad I purchased it. For anyone interested it is the T3 sized blanket that fits this turbo.

My last piece for the BOV is coming in this week, so I should have that all set before WBM this weekend!

If anyone has any questions or wants pictures of anything feel free to leave a comment.

New update.

Decided to wax and vacuum the car today in anticipation of WBM this weekend. Had to take a couple quick pics afterwards.

And after that was all done. I went ahead and installed my BOV since the final piece arrived today!! Very straight forward install. I went with the recirculating type to keep noise down as well as to avoid MAF issues. I'm really happy with it. It makes a slight chirp noise, but it isn't very loud. It also makes the phshooosh sound as well depending on how I handle the throttle.

It's a Type 10 BOV and I used the weakest of the 3 springs that came with it.
