RAyala
Can the black plastic dip paint peal off so that it can be chrome again? I would love to do it to my car but not if its permanent.
Sleepr56
Yup! That's the joy of plastidip.
Odlgt
It will peel off but i think to do it rightna good prep job is needed. I sanded with a pretty rough grit to really give the plasti something to hang on to. Coming up on a year with it and only 1 minor blemish due to a direct pebble hit. Very happy with this diy mod. RAyala
Thanks guys. I dont think I will sand mine because I still want the chrome to look good after I remove the paint.

nstg8r
Been a while since someone posted here but i am planning to do the plastidip to my grill this afternoon. Hopefully it will be a quick and non stressful process:) The easiest way to pull the grille is to remove the whole front fascia, then the screws will be easier to reach. Next, clean the chrome really good and wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. Then, apply the Plasti-Dip with lots (at least 5, imho) of thin coats allowing 45-60 minutes drying time between each. Also, make sure you do don't spray too close; 12-18 inches away is optimal. There will be overspray, so be mindful of that.

O If you want it to be reversible, you shouldn't sand it. If for some reason you want the chrome back, it will be all scratched up Thinking this was a temporary thing, I didn't prep or anything. I didn't even wash the grille or wipe it down. It even had a coat of carnauba on it. I think there was a giant bee carcass in there as well. It still looks like day 1 haha! suby2012lg
I used the plasi-dip on mine and it worked great. I decided to go a step further and got a Grille Craft insert.

Cortesio
I just did this to my Graphite Grey Legacy. I think it turned out pretty well. pfoyle
Looks much better, Cortesio! Nice work. But do you have to take the whole bumper off on a 2013? Our you can get the grill off w/o doing that much work...
Cortesio
There are four screws holding the grill to the bumper. Taking the bumper off made it easier to get to the screws.

linksusmaximus
I finished this mod a couple of weeks ago. I decided to plasti-dip the chrome ring around my fog lights, so taking the bumper off was a must. Very easy, only 3 steps - disengage 13 plastic fasteners, pull off bumper, disconnect fog lights. On the backside of the fog light rings there are four grab-tabs that can be easily depressed and then pushed out. Rotate pushing each tab little-by-little because they are very delicate. Once the rings have been popped out, mask the tabs and around the ring where it sits in the housing [attachment 1]. Finished product [attachment 2]. I also decided to only paint the center chrome wing on the grill, i thought it would be consistent with the chrome trim around my windows. If i ever do those then ill finish my grill. The center wings (2 pieces) are also very easy to take off (4 screws and 2 alignment tabs), once the grill is removed from the bumper. Finished product [attachment 3]. I applied 4 even coats of plasti-dip, waited 30 minutes between each coat, and let dry in an air-conditioned house over night. Before and after installation pics [attachments 4 - 8]. MikeyNice
I decided to plastic dip my grill and also put a black background with white stars overlay sticker on the emblem. Next mod... Blackout headlights.
NavigatorsLegacy
Attached is a pic of 3 year old dip on my grille...needs a little touch up and lifted slightly but not bad for such a cheap mod. It also went though 2 serious hurricanes, 4 serious blizzards and ice storms and countless automated car washes...not to mention at least a dozen 100+ degrees in the hot sun. This car is not garaged also...[emoji41] http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/09/8d071238d2d828d53cf274cbd6d1a1b4.jpg Did I mention the hills back and forth through the woods to grandma's house and the big bad wolf too?[emoji12] SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO... NavigatorsLegacy
Looks good NavigatorLegacy, I'm currently in the middle of doing mine, I found some plasti dip in the garage yesterday and came across this thread. So I figured why the hell not There are a ton of dip vids on YouTube to watch from Fonzie (http://dipyourcar.com ) which serve as Cliff Notes to Dipping... Check out... Not to beat a dead horse with a ton of directions but, 1) WASH CAR. 2) DRY. 3) PREP AREA TO BE SPRAYED. I used isopropyl alcohol over grille. 4) MASK OFF AREA you dont want sprayed. *(Overspray is easy to peel off as long as the coats of dip aren't too thin. Otherwise it's a real pain.) 5) Follow coating directions on can and use a general rule of 5-6 coats minimum. 7) Remove paint masking immediately after last coat to prevent sticking and keep a hobby knife or box cutter close by when you do. 6) Wait at least 2 days before you wash car again with high pressure water sprayer and at least 7-10 days if you dip wheels... (I learned hard way because of my distaste of brake dust...) 7) Use the word "guys" incessantly when talking about your dipped area and wear a shirt that is one size too small to reveal your buff biceps and chiseled physique like the King of Dipping ... Fonzie. 8) And last...for some of us on the forum here who grew up in a childhood world void of hashtags, internet, cellular devices, and instant replay. This was a time where instant gratification at home came from a microwave and before that a Polaroid camera....this gentlemen is the OG, (the original Fonzie) with the pick up line I used for my now wife....enjoy! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/07/10/2aa5dc45ef0a5312e0b04c3afe83706c.jpg Looks good NavigatorLegacy, I'm currently in the middle of doing mine, I found some plasti dip in the garage yesterday and came across this thread. LGTMKE
Just did mine last night - what an awesome mod for the price! Hardest part was being patient between coats as it dried.
Timothy.B
I was thinking about doing this. Mines the Crystal Black and I think it'd still look decent. Not a fan of chrome, too flashy for me. Does the plasti-dip hold up if you do it right? I'm worried about it coming off from chips and chrome popping through. FLlegacy
It will chip but if you put it on thick it should work out pretty well. And last a long time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
