dan04103
Can anyone confirm that the 3.0R is supposed to get a spark plug change at 30k. I don't have the correct owners manual. The mysubaru website says it should be part of the 30k service, but plugs at this mileage seems ridiculous. 50k is what I've heard the plug change is. However I change out at 25k or every two years. Just what I do. Best of luck on the other issues.
Scrad
How bad was the plug install? I thought the LGT that I had sucked and with 2 more plugs on the 3.0R I was considering having a shop do it this time. Getting my radiator replaced on Monday. It has a leak under pressure. Good thing it is under warranty.
CapnJack
It took me about 3 hours to change the plugs in mine. Two hours to do the first five and an hour to do the last one. I can't remember which one it was, but it was on the passenger side. It's about as bad as the 2.5GT, but not any worse considering the extra two plugs. It almost feels like there is a little extra space for some reason. You have to take out the battery and airbox. There is no way around it. Its not hard but your hands will take a small beating (mine do at least). Patience is the key!
Scrad
CapnJack, what mileage do you change plugs at? I've only got 30k on mine right now. I guess I will have to see how much a shop is going to charge me. I just didn't want to do them. I thought the LGT was enough of a pain, but if it costs too much I'll do them myself since I'm cheap. CapnJack
Spark plugs are due every 60k on the 3.0R model. I changed mine at 50K miles since the 60K would have had me doing them in the middle of winter. Bleeding knuckles are bad enough without the frostbite. I plan to do them every 50-60K interval depending on what time of year it lands.
Scrad
Got my radiator replaced. Everything seems good now. I asked how much a plug change would be and they quoted me $500 or I think $600 with the 60k service. Holy crap, guess I'll just be doing them myself then. I still have a torque converter shutter. Of course they couldn't replicate the shutter during test drives. Good thing it rarely does it.
tubbylad
if you have a 3/8" drive and a short extension with a standard spark plug socket you can reach all plugs without jacking up the engine. extraction is easier than install and you won't get a torque wrench on the rear plug each side when finalising assembly. underneath provides better leverage when torquing up. from top or bottom you'll need the hands and dexterity of a 5 year old as that chassis rail is in just the wrong place. took me 3 hours Sunday and cost £50 for all 6 NGK plugs along with a few scuffed knuckles for the pleasure. Jaisah-3.0R
Hello everyone. I recently had a lot of smoke coming from underneath my car and from the engine bay when I drove up to the local ski field. I was driving a bit faster than I normally do, sitting at about 70-80km/h in second gear only slowing down for corners. The smoke was white and had an oil smell about it. I've never had any issues with my car so I was a bit worried. I had a look under the bonnet later that day when I got home but I couldn't see any oil coming from the engine. What I did notice though was a lot of oil or possibly grease splattered all around the CV joints (see the photos) Has anyone else had an issue like this? Also the CV joints are right above the exhaust so the oil may have been burning. Is this likely the cause of the smoke or could it be something else? Also are CV joint issues common on the 2005 Legacy? It's weird because both CV joints have a lot of oily looking stuff splattered around them. I would love to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance. http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p692/Jaisahwebb/20130925_204604_zps8aeccf00.jpg http://i1346.photobucket.com/albums/p692/Jaisahwebb/20130925_204657_zpsf327612f.jpg
Scrad
I think that is kind of common on these cars. The boot sits too close to the exhaust. Yours looks like there might be a crack in the boot and throwing the grease out.
therealcc
I currently have an 05 Outback XT... The turbo blew in January 2 weeks after I bought the car with 140,000 miles on it (first mistake). The past year I've been pouring money into it to get everything fixed. I'm calling it quits and selling it for a N/A engine. I'm thinking about going with something like an 05-07 3.0r with around 100,000 miles on it. What are your thoughts and what things should I look for before I buy, specifically about the 3.0 engine. Thanks guys!
L30R
Just bought an 09 3.0R last night w/ 36K miles on it. Can't wait to pick her up today...
L30R
My god I love this car. I find myself driving in S# mode constantly, though... sucking all the gas out of the tank. Gotta love that low end torque! Oh. Also have the squeaky drivers seat too... but I can live with that since every subie I've owned had noisy seats... Scrad
My drivers seat a squeaks too. Well squeaks and pops. Was there any fix for this? I tried tightening down the mounts, but that did help.
L30R
I don't know of any fixes unfortunately. When my previous 2.5i (2008) was making a lot of noises, there weren't any available known fixes to the issue. After sifting thru the warranty section it seems like a lost cause to get it fixed at the dealership, but I may still try that route later on if it really becomes a problem for me. Luckily I also purchased a warranty package for 100,000 miles at a great discount, so I hope it comes in handy later down the road. Aside from the squeaking issue, I'm happy to see that my MPG gauge steadies at around 30mpg at highway speeds (roughly 70mph) on relatively flat roads. Jaisah-3.0R
Anyone have any idea why my car is on average 1 second slower 0-100km/h compared with the other Legacy's on youtube? Jaisah-3.0R
Driver-mod? What's a "Driver-mod"? I tried googleing it but everyone seems to have a different opinion on what a driver-mod is. I timed not only the 0-100 km/h but also 0-(top of first) and it was slower by about half a second. Its auto and the video was filmed in sports mode, just like most of the videos on youtube. I'll have to go out again and film another 0-100km/h vid just to be sure it wasn't especially hot that day or something.

adhonores
Oh. Also have the squeaky drivers seat too... but I can live with that since every subie I've owned had noisy seats... Had similar problem but I got it fixed by myself... Tooks few fails and tries but here was my situation: - Was noisy especially on cornering and acceleration (yeah love that low end torque too;-) - Noise comes from the right side (to passenger) of the seat... Let me try to explain; there's a rivet on the right side that holds the main axle of the back seat portion. Over the time it got loosen... To fix it I drilled over the rivet to take it off and replaced it with screw and nut.
mrmako
I like the EZ30R Legacy but I would love it more if I could get it in a 5MT or even a 6MT I have the 3.0R specB. I could have gotten a 6MT, but $3K more. I have an '05 3.0R and I have a question. When I floor it I sometimes notice a puff of smoke in the rear vision mirror just as a reach the top of first gear and sometimes at the top of second. Is this likely to be a slipping clutch or the engine burning oil or some other issue? I have the same issue. I think it might be some plug fouling more than anything else. 98legwag
Here is mine. Its an 09 Limited I bought back in September 2013. So far it has LEDs in the map/dome/trunk/courtesy lights, 25% tint, and Osram Night Breaker Unlimited low beams. I plan on getting a JDM 20mm rear sway bar and the AVO reinforced rsb mounts with AVO fsb and rsb bushings. http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g378/98legwag/2009%20%20Legacy%20R/20140106_162507_zps4fw5lk7l.jpg
kramm
Sold my 2008 3.0R today, and while I'm sad to see it go, I'm thrilled with it's replacement. I loved the car so much, but over the last 15k miles the amount of interior rattles, squeaking suspension, lose heat shield, just made me despise driving it. Bought a 2013 Volvo S60 T5 for an absolute steal with only 1800 miles. Hearing the turbo wooosh that I wanted to hear from the Legacy put a huge smile on my face today driving home. I wasn't a frequent member on these forums but found them to be very helpful and friendly. Adios Legacy owners! http://1-photos.ebizautos.com/new-2013-volvo-s60-4drsdnt5premierfwd-10846-10794986-5-640.jpg http://4-photos.ebizautos.com/new-2013-volvo-s60-4drsdnt5premierfwd-10846-10662945-4-640.jpg http://1-photos.ebizautos.com/new-2013-volvo-s60-4drsdnt5premierfwd-10846-10794986-1-640.jpg
