Opinions stg3 on build

Recommended Posts

I suppose I'm due for an update.

I got the car back about a month or so ago.

Everything is great. I've been breaking in the motor and have a little over 800 miles on it now. I'm running 93oct with ID2000's, and it isn't all that bad with a base map and idle set at 1100. Once I hit 1500 miles, then I can get fully tuned on E85.

Just last weekend, I had my in-tank Aeromotive 340 fuel pump go out. That's the second Aeromotive pump I've had go out on me in the last year and a half. Nine of those months, my car was parked. I replaced it with a DW65c. I will be replacing my two Aeromotive 340's in my surge tank with two DW300's.

I have a T31 .83A/R turbine housing coming to convert my stock location GTX3076R to rotated mount. I have the exhaust components on order and should be arriving some time next week, from Ultimate Racing. I should be able to continue using my current 3" inlet compressor housing.

Here is how she currently sits:

Another update:

I have gone rotated with the components I ordered from Ultimate Racing. There were some minor fitment issues with the downpipe. I was even warned of a possible fitment issue from Ultimate Racing prior placing my order. All that had to be done was trim about an inch from the downpipe and reweld.

I don't have any new engine bay pics yet, but will get some shortly.

I am also fully tuned on E85 at 26psi. The car is a freak of nature and is incredible to drive.

The run ends at 6000RPM because the engine RPM pick up for the dyno was having problems and would cut out.

Here is a plot of a third and fourth gear pull:

I have put about 2500 miles on since getting tuned, and about 4000 since the motor went in.

I am extremely happy with my results. The car is a complete joy to drive.

I am expecting driveline components to start failing shortly (mainly axles), but as long as I don't have any engine issues, the shit I've dealt with to get here is completely worth it.

I can feel your pain...well at least some of it...when I did my project Mitsubishi Lancer, i went through hell...especially since I did a lot of one off pieces, then a t-25 turbo to a t3/4 .60...and going through 2 trans, but in the end when you reach your goal, it is totally worth it and every bit of hell you went through is appreciated when you are on the road and hear her purr and rumble and see all the other cars in your rear view mirror

Awesome build, awesome car!!! Would love to see this in person

Looks like I'm going clutch shopping.

My Exedy twin disc no longer likes to hold after launching.

Not too sure what to get yet. I'm slightly hesitant on a triple disc, as I get slightly annoyed at the fact that my friction point on my twin disc almost constantly changes on me. Sometimes it's just off the floor, then 10 minutes later it's barely at the top.

Right now, I'm checking out ACT 6 pucks.

Did you get the whole UR rotated kit? And was it for a 08 wrx? I was thinking about trying to make it work. Car looks FAST!!

I got their 3-bolt up pipe and downpipe, and their intake piping kit. I didn't use all the pieces of intake kit, since it was designed around using their FMIC. I'm running AVO's.

I never really ran the stock location with E85 to its full potential, but compared to running on 100oct at stock location, I put down 70whp more being rotated.

Ahh ok. I was looking at the 08+ wrx whole kit. So the intake cleared the abs unit/coolant tank? The downpipe was the only small fitment issue? Would love to see some engine bay shot because ive yet to see a UR kit on a legacy.

Here are some engine bay pics. Sorry for the camera phone quality. I'll get some better pics when I get some time.

  • 1 month later...

Made a couple passes at the Midwest Subaru Shootout in Byron, IL yesterday.

This was my last (3rd) pass. I was having traction issues coming off the line and feel I could possibly dip into the 10's if I had some more time dialing in my launch.

I'm on the left (car 679).

Nice numbers. Tire squirm, break-loose, what was happening. Raising pressure at the rear will likely get you a bit more bite 2 psi over front should help.

Just spinning the tires in first gear. I didn't have a chance to really get a feel for the car, but I think launching a lower RPM will help quite a bit. The run prior this one, I launched around 6500rpm and spun way to much, getting a 11.8 at 122. This run I launched around 5800rpm and still spun in first. It also didn't help that the left lane was poorly prepped. Everyone in that lane was having traction issues that day.

With that kind of torque, some spin is inevitable. ;)

How's your alignment? Toe and camber will affect how well your tires react, given changes in tire patch. Can also throw off your launch if your toe is pulling you one way or another IME.
