I've heard the subaru version will have factory installed squeaks and rattles in the dash and doors, while the Scion will not. This is to distinguish the two and keep them in line with their respective makes.
All I need now is a hill holder and a center passing light...

Less than 300hp is lame. What's it going to compete with?

Now that Subaru has announced that the impreza and wrx/sti chassis are going down separate paths, I wonder if the new wrx/sti will be a slightly larger variant of the BRZ platform with motor and drivetrain mounting points designed for 4wd applications.

I think the object of the BRZ NA is to compete with the base Miata and RX-8 and the like. I've driven an RX-8 and it was seriously lacking torque, I haven't driven a newer Miata, but nonetheless, 200+hp in the BRZ body with a RWD drivetrain will be a fun drive no doubt. I'd say once the demand warrants it, an STI version will be around the corner.

One of the articles said the 265 hp EDM Scirocco.

In the US, that would mean it's competitor is no one.

It could compete with the a Subaru WRX STi in the snow. :p

If it had AWD it could compete with the VW Golf R version coming to the U.S.

I see the BRZ's main competition as being the Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T or maybe as a smaller alternative to the domestic Pony cars. It should hopefully be sportier than milk-toast coupes like the Scion TC or Altima coupe. All of this is pointless conjecture until it is released and it's performance can be tested.

I'm expecting a slightly cooler looking RX8 until further notice.... which means I'm not interested.

Just curious who will be the first to stuff either an H6 or turbo H4 in there, and how far a factory version will be behind that.
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Days. Max.

Didn't Hasport stuff a K24 from a Civic SI into a Fit within days of it's official release?

I don't understand... Were you expecting/hoping that the BRZ would have over 300hp? It's supposed to be a relatively small, lightweight, affordable sport coupe. And the original word was around 200hp for around $20k, though price estimate has gone up a bit, and now this news suggests somewhat higher hp.

Uh... yes. I was expecting more.

Subaru is two decades too late to enter the Miata game.

Just waiting for frank_ster to make a project there! :)

Throw in a huge Buick engine into it.

However if the car is relatively light and RWD it may well be that the power range between 200 and 300 hp is sufficient since it shall still be possible for the average Joe to handle it - otherwise we will see way too many accidents with the car.
