Frogg
i understand what u guys are saying but there aren't "plenty". Theres few legacy wagons, and fewer 5spds.
Frogg
i think i may have to do a transmission swap after all huh? there's a couple automatic 2.5gts 97-99, in decent shape but around 5gs...
Hops
Just be patient... It'll come around. Took me a few months to find my 98 with a manual. May have to road trip for one. Buy my cars!

bigran82
i'm thinking of buying a '98 Legacy L 5spd with 190k miles on it. $3k too much? runs/drives great, new tires, timing belt, no leaks, no rust, no damage, looks real clean. seems hard to find these up here in ohio. Zues Marine
3k is a steal... compared to that very same car for $5500 here in the PNW

bigran82
that's kind of what i was thinking. i can't find them anywhere and i don't have the extra cash to buy the newer ones that are everywhere, and i'm not much of a forester fan, and those are everywhere too. wrx's are kind of rare too, but i don't have the money for those either. i wish i kept my '03 wrx. lol. i have to have another suby, and i think this '98 legacy is gonna be mine! i have been hearing great things about the EJ22 motors. i know 190k is a lot of miles, but i hear that is just the breaking in period for suby's! Hops
It is... and the EJ22 is a lot more reliable than the EJ25. I'm coming up on 290k. Buy my cars!
vicarious1349
I just got mine for $3,200 for a 98 lgt 5 speed 207,000 in Michigan so 3k is good. My car is in really good shape as well and has only needed brakes so far, which i knew when I bought it.

98LGTLover
I'm at 125,7XX... Definitely not going to make my goal of 130,000 by the end of the year... Unless I need to drive 4,000 miles for something.
Frogg
after reading these last few posts, what's ur guys opinion on this? Small dealer maintenence unknown... http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/ctd/2089401531.html
98LGTLover
I think that would be a decent car. It has lower miles for its age.
Frogg
I think that would be a decent car. It has lower miles for its age. u think it would still be reliable given it's mileage (I am aware it prob. needs a little maint. 1st)
98LGTLover
I think it'd be fine. I have a '96 L wagon and it has 150k on it and it doesn't have any problems. The nice thing is that it has the 2.2 which is pretty much bullet proof. You don't have to worry about headgaskets. You will need to check out all the fluids because they may need to be changed, hopefully someone did the timing belt around 100k.
bigran82
Well I was the high bidder at 2950 but I didn't meet the reserve even though he told me it was 2900. But I bet he still sells it to me at that price. I still think it's a good deal but sucks he prob would have sold it for less but some idiot 0-feedback bidder bid it up to 2900 and he's bid on 75 vehicles in the past month and had 10 bid retractions. So it seems like he just bids cars up to be an idiot. Oh well, I hope to be driving this home this weekend or next. I love Subarus! And that means I'll be posting a lot more on here. I used to post a lot on nasioc.com when I had my WRX.

SamNM
Wow! Still original engine and tranny? Yep. I bought it 4 years ago in excellent shape from the original owner at 160K. He was asking $2,700 and I (foolishly, perhaps) told him he had it priced too low. He insisted he'd researched values and that was a fair price so I jumped right on it. He gave me all his maintenance records and all he'd done was routine stuff.
Hops
As of today, 323,649 miles. That takes the cake! You're the only one with higher mileage than me (so far). About to hit 290k! Nice to see somebody well over 300k. Buy my cars!
kaz98gt
As of today, 323,649 miles. He must've done all the gaskets and whatnot before you bought it. What maintenance stuff have you gone through? Just regular stuff over the +150k that you've put on it?

Just regular stuff over the +150k that you've put on it? Just the kind of stuff you'd expect. Clutch, timing belt, ball joints, brakes, etc.. No major engine work which is surprising because it spends a lot of time getting rattled on dirt roads.
