  • 3 weeks later...
Just got offered a 1992 Miata 5MT convertible for $250, it ran before being parked 3 months ago (parked under a carport thing in their back yard) but they aren't mechanically inclined so it's a crap-shoot on issues...is it worth it? Should I buy this as a second Chump Car?

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

PW, I thought you can't fit in a Miata. Are you thinking of running a second Chump Car team? Or are you thinking of using this as our spare Chump Car? I think if we get this car as our spare Chump Car, it could be a logistical nightmare... 2 sets of spare parts, tires, etc. One's FWD, and the other is RWD, etc. I don't know what the others think but I am going to vote No.

.

.

I have enough drama for now.....

You should buy it but not for Chump Car. I was just thinking that a Miata might make a great weekend car.

+a billion

My perpetual "I'd love one of those for a trackday/weekend/sorry I can only take one passenger <points to rollcage>" car list:

E30 325is

Miata

944

Probably in that order.

I vote for focusing our Chump car efforts on the Escort, for a couple races at the very least. When the Escort is done I could perhaps be persuaded to start over on something RWD or AWD though.

Got a look at this thing in the daylight but only briefly, the front DS fender is 2/3 primer gray & the hood looks misaligned due to damage. Waiting to get the full story on this before I make a decision. May just buy it and let the friend who is my link to this guy drive it until he can get his own car...

Already getting a 'fun for the weekend' car, the SVX! Then there's the 'tinker toy'...details will come when sales are finalized next week. ;)

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

* * * Next Chump Car Work Day Saturday MARCH 20th or Sunday March 21st* * *

I just kinda wanted to have another day to hit it before the PIR swap meet in PDX on April 10th. This doesn't need to be a big work weekend. I figured that if we had a few guys for 4-5 hours we could get some big stuff done.

The list:

  1. Install new fuel tank
  2. More seam welding
  3. Paint welds
  4. Install rear brakes
  5. Fab up some strut bars
  6. Fab up a tow bar
  7. More wiring/de-wiring
  8. Dash?
  9. Lube bearings
  10. Wire extra tail lights
  11. Anything else?

Give me some feedback on which day, Sat or Sun, would work best for anyone who can come and help.

I know... you're gonna be at a beach in Mazatlan drinking Coronas and Margaritas celebrating your birthday. Early Happy Birthday wishes to you! BTW, is this the big three-oh birthday? It's quite unlike you to be so extravagant for an ordinary birthday celebration. :hide::lol:
