You bought that thing for $250??? Damn!

It had a blown motor.

More stuff from the forum:

A slippery slope...

So... if I had an "invoice" for a 2006 Infinity... at $500... caught in a flood and gently flipped a couple of times so the roof has a few wrinkles and the entire interior is shot, does that mean I have a $500 VALUED car (because of the "invoice") or a $500 car?

John

This last quote is one that I am trying to find out if it refers to before or during/after the race. I say this because I know of a few OEM upgrades that will bolt on.

ChumpCar uses the "Free Replacement With Used Parts" approach. Break something? That's okay... you can replace ANY broken part (including engine or transmission) as long as you replace it with a stock, unmodified used part.

Upgrades would not be a stock part though. What came stock on the vehicle when it was made would be stock. Not unlike adding every SPT upgrade to a Legacy would no longer make it stock even though it wouldn't go any faster.

I guess I should mention that they were stock on other Escorts of that year. IE rear disc brakes, larger front rotors, larger rear swaybar, better struts, more HP engine. All of these things can be had for either that year except the struts but they can be had from a newer Escort and bolt up

Another way to prove that the Escort is valued at less then $500 is to print out a list of all the *completed* auctions on EBAY for Escorts like this.

If you are the original owner of one of the dozen(?) Yugo cars that haven't rusted away, and is some how in perfect condition, but no one has bought any Yugo, no mater how nice, for more than $50 in the past 15 years, then you have a car that's only valued at $50. This is one of the ways that Grassroots Motorsports determines the value/cost of cars for their $20XX Challenges.

Escort is FWD and will handle far better than a Justy.

Thing is, I really like the idea of driving an AWD car on the track, because AWD is what I'm familiar with and what I'd like to get better at. RWD too, though to a lesser extent.

But I have only a little bit of experience with FWD, and no interest in improving my FWD handling skills, because I don't expect to own a FWD car in the forseeable future.

So I vote AWD or RWD. If I'm outvoted, so be it. I'm still in.

Reason to stick to a Legacy...

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Legacy#Speed_records

The original Legacy speed record was set between January 2 and January 21 1989, with three Japanese-spec turbocharged RS sedans at the Arizona Test Center outside of Phoenix, Arizona. It broke the 100,000 km
World Land Endurance Record by maintaining an average speed of 138.780 mph (223.345 km/h) for 447 hours, 44 minutes and 9.887 seconds, or 18.5 days. Pit stops were made every two hours with a driver change and refueling, while tire changes were made at 96 hour intervals, or every 13,400 miles (21,600 km) driven.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Still works for me. :iam:

It's a:

Subaru Legacy 91 1991 sedan AWD automatic - $725 (Greenwood)

1991 Subaru Legacy sedan for sale. This car is good condition and still runs fine. The car does need some suspension work done on the rear wheels but the car is still driveable. The Transmission was replaced 9 months ago and the car has been regularly serviced. It is a great little car especially in the snow, drove it for years in eastern Washington without snow tires during the winter without any problems. This is a great little car and I am only getting rid of it because I inherited my grandmas imperza wagon.

Mileage: 158,000

Year: 1991

Who ever wants to be a part of this, I'd like to have a meeting soon. I know that a lot of us are going to the Toy run on Saturday and I figured that we could talk there since the toy run is from noon to ??. I plan on us figuring out a plan on stuff like drivers, pit crew, finances, meetings, work, etc. If you want to be a part of this and can make it this Saturday that would be great. I know that this is short nitice and that some of you who want to be a part of this can't make it on Saturday and that doesn't mean that you will be excluded. We just need to get this $500 ball rolling.:)
