scoobyscoodle
But what about all the monies I already spent on my HFLSD that's in my spec.b trans! Haha, maybe I don't really need DCCD. Or maybe if I pickup a second gen4 I have a place for my Spec.B trans.

Jecker
Hey guys i'm about to do a 6 speed swap and i'm having a hard time finding a spec B driveshaft so i started look for alternatives. I found this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Drive-Shaft-Dorman-936-955-fits-05-09-Subaru-Legacy-/322242649021?hash=item4b07289bbd:g:ey0AAOSw5ClXwv89&vxp=mtr but it says it will fit both the 05 legacy gt and 07+ spec B legacy's so this confuses me. I am also considering getting a driveshaft custom made, does anyone have any experience with that? Thanks in advance.
Moderators BarManBean Posted August 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2016 any spec.b 6mt driveshaft will work, along with any 05-09 4eat Legacy / Outback driveshaft. Moderators BarManBean Posted August 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2016 And hmm...I have an '07 spec.b swap in my car. Wonder if it is pump or slung driven. Scooby2.5
Yea pretty much any outback driveshaft carrier bearing would probably have the correct measurement. Different transmissions had different lengths but the carrier was the same I am pretty sure.
Scooby2.5
any spec.b 6mt driveshaft will work, along with any 05-09 4eat Legacy / Outback driveshaft. Well actually it will work but the carrier bearing on a LGT or spec b is shorter from mounting point to bottom. The outback carrier bearing drops the shaft more. I am having problems with the rear seal wearing out and we think it is due to the angle difference. I am using a Legacy 4 speed auto shaft and should have bought a outback 4 speed auto shaft. I could space it down with spacers and longer bolts but wanted to maybe just get a different shaft. If i get a custom made shaft like hammerdown then I need the correct carrier bearing measurement
Moderators BarManBean Posted August 31, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2016 Same here, scooby. Ok running a legacy spec driveshaft and have thought about trying to search for an OBK driveshaft. Add it to the list... SBT
BMB - if you have a pipe on the shifter side of your trans, it's a pump-version. Would be interested to know the Trans ID Number off of yours as well. Perhaps those two things will confirm whether it's a TY856WWDAA or not. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

Add it to the list... Are you having trouble with rear seal? My first 6 speed never did this but my brand new 6 speed I have had 2 rear seals leak. Only thing I can think of is the shaft angle is slightly different even though it spins fine and no vibration at all.
Scooby2.5
Thought about looking at one of these, local parts store carries them http://www.ebay.com/itm/221873266908?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
SBT
Sure beats the price for an OEM replacement Just have to change the rear flange to work with the R180, correct? - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

Scooby2.5
Can't you just pull out the body spacers? Well Originally I was going to do that. In fact I have all the LGT parts to do it properly. With that said I decided against it because the motor and transmission sit down about and inch in the car with the outback spacers. This allows more hood clearance for things like my FMIC hose to turbo etc. I just felt like I would rather have the engine to hood clearance so I decided not to remove the spacers. Scooby2.5
Sure beats the price for an OEM replacement Just have to change the rear flange to work with the R180, correct? Actually when you use the R180 you use the Yoke from the R160 on the R180 that way your driveshaft works. Spec b R180 is an R180 with R160 yoke IIRC
scoobyscoodle
Are you talking about removing the front subframe spacers or the rear ones? When I converted my obxt to a LGT setup I kept the front spacers in so the motor was still lower, but swapped out everything in the rear.

Jecker
Sup guys I just bought an 06 6 speed with 75k miles for $1500 for my swap. I have been researching the swap and I have all the parts on the way except a DCCD controller. I don't care about DCCD right now so I was wondering if I can just install the trans without a controller? Will it stay open or locked, and is it bad in any way? Thanks in advance, trying to get her done before BAM!

I'm assuming the center differential stays open then because I imagine daily driving with it locked would suck.
NSFW
With no controller, it is unlocked. Honestly I like it better that way anyhow unless there's snow or ice on the road... I unhooked my controller while searching for electrical gremlins, and just never bothered to hook it back up.

fahr_side
Open is nice but I love the way torque transfers to the front coming out of corners when in auto mode. Car just throws itself at whatever the front wheels are pointed toward.
