Ahh, Yellowbird. A classic.

And good grief, if Ford would build something like the Escort Cosworth, instead of the eyesore Focus coupe...

Escort Cosworth may have been a bit rare, but it isn't a hard formula. Heaven forbid any car companies actually do it right like that again now...

I still want to build some sort of a mid-engined car like the Ferrari/Maserati/Lotus/NSX that I pictured above... With some nice angular lines WITH some compound curves mixed in (288GTO is the epitome of line and curve fitted together on a car) and a special little drivetrain....

A twin-turbocharged built Subaru EG33, and a Porsche 6-speed transaxle, mounted longitudinally amidships, with SLA front and rear suspension, like the NSX's Aluminum setup. I also kind of like NSX's interior and lighting systems. The front end of the NSX does look like a 90's freshening of earlier european themes.

A 450+ horsepower boxer-engined super sports car, with some Ferrari/Maserati/Lotus like 70s-80s european mid-engine styling cues, and 90s-to-current modern tech, features, and reliability.

I wonder if the NSX could be back-halved to build that powertrain into it. The body is all removable aluminum panels, which could be replaced with FRP/Fiberglass pieces to re-style the rear half of the car. (especially to shorten and slightly taper the rear overhang. Even if it ends up sacrificing some of the rear trunk space...) IF one could modify the aluminum structure between the rear suspension mounting points to accomodate a longitudinal transaxle... I think it could work.

Honda/Mugen actually goes the other way with it's NSX-based race cars, they turn the engine flywheel forward, put the transmission under the center console tunnel, and put a driveshaft under the engine to drive a rear differential behind the engine, between the rear wheels. Kind of like a Lamborghini method of longitudinal drivetrain layout.

I believe that was one of the big car magazines editor's driving the Yellowbird at Nur.

Whoever he is, he has some huge BALLZ. I would have had to stop and changed my underwear several times during that lap.

Post up any pictures you've found of those amazing cars out there.

No rice or redneck stuff in here.

Stick to legitimately amazing cars and trucks!
