Just FYI - some guys have recently modded their 05-07 grills to have the flush mount look of the JDM 08 Spec-B grill.

Basically the mesh is more flush mount rather than recessed, if you don't know the difference. The results have been really good from the ones I've seen.

Search: 08 Grill Mod 40 bucks and 4 hrs (i think is the thread name) and the last couple pages has a few examples IIRC. :D

I didn't bother with clear coat. What I got was too glossy for me. Since it takes 5 minutes to take the grill off...if I get any nicks I'll just repaint. TRS used the same paint as I and in over a year he's had no fading.

Cool beans. :) Thanks for the info! :)

And you're right - with the winglets being so easy to remove, it'd be pointless to pursue such protection.

Here's my 05. As mentioned in the other thread, I did not like the look of the zip ties so mine is a bit more permanent.

:whore:

Did you get the silver badge from Japanparts.com ?

I might go with this and just paint the wings only...then by the "wet" carbon style badge set. The darker badge will look better with Diamond Gray Metallic

Here's a few pics of my DIY grille on my '06 RBP 2.5i. Not the best pic of the grille on the car, but only one I can get my hand on right now. I left the wings, but everything is murdered out. The chrome grille makes the car look...old.

Yeah after I wrote that, I saw the other DIY threads and realized that it can be done on your own. It's crazy expensive to buy those badges otherwise. They want $300 plus shipping.

Chrome is out...definitely going to do this mod, maybe the badge too.

I think I like the constellation emblem in the middle rather than the letters -- the emblem helps hide the structure behind it in bright light (your middle picture), for one thing.

I've just ordered a bunch of stuff for upper and lower DIY grilles, and I'll let y'all know how it goes. HPH

If I were doing something with the letters, I would stick the Subaru emblem in the middle like normal and keep the letters all more toward the center, maybe curving them around the bottom of the constellation emblem (like a "U" under the emblem).

I think that may look cool.

The way it is now looks like it's missing something maybe....

I like the creativity though, doing something different. Keep us posted. :)
