praedet Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Well, after some problems with the turbo I was installing, I found that I needed a new inlet pipe for the turbo... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/TornInletHose1.jpg So, I will document my installation of the APS Inlet pipe in this thread, along w/ TGV deletes while the whole thing is open. Here are the pics as I begin to remove things... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/EngineTakenApart1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/EngineTakenApart2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/EngineTakenApart6.jpg And here is the 2nd helper, (my wife is the first) http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/RockyTakingitApart.jpg
rao Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Have fun When I did mine I just pulled the entire intake manifold. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
praedet Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 ^^^I'm trying to get there, there are just SOOOO many connections to the intake manifold
rao Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Just suck it up and disconnect them all If it makes you feel any better I can swap the intake manifold on my BMW in about 15 minutes Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
praedet Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I know, I can to the same on my Nissan How do you disconnect the connector that is at the very back of the inlet pipe. it is a tube going to a white connector that has a gray plug on it...
fweasel Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I know, I can to the same on my Nissan damn, my Nissan took 5 hours, just to remove. ignore him, he'll go away.

That's part of the PCV system, It's an electrical connector and there is a tab on it that you need to push in. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
BoxerGT2.5 Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 People need to learn the stock inlet isn't like a $5000 hooker you can get rough with, be gentle with her. Is that a grounding wire I see? OBAMA......One Big Ass Mistake America!
SeeeeeYa Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 People need to learn the stock inlet isn't like a $5000 hooker you can get rough with, be gentle with her. Is that a grounding wire I see? Actually, from the pictures I think Ted's inlet pipe is bad for the same reason mine was and, I suspect, many who get around to taking the turbo off after two or three years..... the damned boot degrades and that ignorant clamp eats it. Make sure whatever clamp you use on the APS is one without 'holes' in it. $5000 hooker???
praedet Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 I was gentle Oh well, looks like more work... And yes, my car is at least as powerful as the Spec-B because of the grounding system... (Or I just get better radio reception and the kit was free )
Boostjunkie Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 You can install the APS inlet without removing, or even lifting the intake manifold, but it involves quite a bit of wrestling and liberal use of swear words
rao Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 It definitely can be done, but imagine how mad he will be if he breaks something else or damages the new inlet Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
praedet Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Plus I am going to do TGV deletes since the Intake Manifold is off already. TGV deletes can not go in w/o removing the manifold
praedet Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 So, all the parts get here on Monday. I guess it is a Spring Break project for me I will try and get down to the actual block by the weekend to take a few pictures. I am not worried about getting everything disconnected, because it won't come off till all the connections are. I am terrified that i will forget to reconnect one of the bazillion connections as I put it back together
BoxerGT2.5 Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I am terrified that i will forget to reconnect one of the bazillion connections as I put it back together There's a high probability of that happening. OBAMA......One Big Ass Mistake America!
praedet Posted March 20, 2008 Author Posted March 20, 2008 Maybe I will get lucky and that will blow the engine so I can get used to re-building it. I am installing WI after all
underpowerd Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 And here is the 2nd helper, (my wife is the first) http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/RockyTakingitApart.jpg he's got the right size hands for the job i wish i had a paw for that pcv diagnostic you mentioned .
what Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 You can install the APS inlet without removing, or even lifting the intake manifold, but it involves quite a bit of wrestling and liberal use of swear words ha ha.. that is just a good description of working on cars in general..
j255c Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 you might as well install a a/oil separator if you're ripping off the intake manifold. What turbo you running again? I noticed a lot of blow by as soon as i switched to my 20g w/ the fmic. 06 TB EVO IX SE stock turbo monster subaru hater
praedet Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 ^^^I might do that, I just don't know where all the places are that I need to tap into...
praedet Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 More pics First, this is the continuation of the removal of the intake manifold and TGV Risers... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/DisassembledEngine1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/TGVRisers1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/Taking%20Things%20Apart/TGVRisersOut1.jpg Next, a few pics comparing the USDM TGV Risers to the JDM ones... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/USDMTGVRiser1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/USDMTGVRiser2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/JDMTGVDelete1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/JDMTGVDelete2.jpg And here is one of the JDM TGV Risers put back in... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/JDMTGVRiserIn3.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/JDMTGVRiserIn2.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/JDMTGVRiserIn1.jpg Now, here is why the other on is not back in yet... http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/InjectorO-Ring.jpg I can't find one of the O-rings for the injectors. I have to run to the store to get one... It is not in the intake valve, as I looked, but, some dust/small dirt particles did fall in the block. Should I clean it out or will the engine pulverize it w/ no problems? http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/DustintheIntake1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e257/praedet/APS%20Inlet/JDM%20TGV%20Deletes/DustintheIntake2.jpg
Deer Killer Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Whatever crap you dropped in there is almost guaranteed to be harder than what the cylinder/pistons/valves are made out of. What max AVCS were you running? That looks like a lot of reversion.
qikslvr Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Shop vac the intake tract out or try to pick up any shavings with a magnet on a stick. Let's kick this pig!
praedet Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Taken care of w/ the shop vac and compressed air Now I have to find the "Seal ring" in the pic above
praedet Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I am waiting on my APS inlet which comes in today. BUT... Now I have to wait till I can get one of the seal rings pictured on the cardboard above. It seats the tip of the injector in the port on the TGV Riser (lower Intake Manifold) No Subaru dealers have them close by
