I did this to my Exhaust... sound + labor (10 mins.) + price (free) = love it. Thanks for the idea.

Hey Hog, you have another satisfied modder here. I've been reading several pages and had the day off, so I decided to run across the street to Home Depot and get the supplies. I had to use the stock bold and hex nut due to the fact that the new 3/8 hex nuts didn't want to fit the 3/8 bolts. So I put 2 washers on each bolt and called it a day. I had to run to Midas to have the stock bolts loosened and they did it free of charge. This mod took me 10 mins and sounds alot like my buddies SPT but better. Everything is great about this mod....minus the potential HP/TQ increase that would come from a CBE with a tune. Now I have a great rumble to go with the beautiful singing sound of the turbo(Thanks to the K&N typhoon). Thanks Hogmeat, for the innovative/experimental mind of yours.

for those of you with hogzausts for a long time now - have you been under the car and checked out the rust status of the flanges or tubing?

I haven't done this mod - but was working on the car this past weekend attempting to remove my mufflers, fighting all the rust on the bolts (eventually got it).

anyhow, the flanges were all rusted up and in generally bad shape. This made me wonder how much worse it would have been had my exhaust been open there and water and road debris get in there and work from the inside out.

Am i needlessly worried for your sakes?

My gaskets were essentially a part of the flanges. They weren't separate, discernible pieces anymore. One thing I was personally worried about was black crap from the exhaust starting to cover the underbody. I was surprised to find minimal evidence.

Back to your original questions though, well, I can't help but say ... considering how very expensive stock mufflers are, yes, I would be worried ...

Shut yer whinin' and do eet.

Those flanges have been there how many years?

There still about 3/8" thick. How many years or decades do you think it will take for rust to eat them away?

Get over it.

My rear wheel wells on my 86' Ford F150 have been rusting away for 10 plus years, and it's still fine.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.
