Deer strike enroute to the track, SO. BUMMED.

I should have JDM xenon and USDM headlights in good shape if you can't find anything semi-locally.

USDM sets I believe I had both 05 (black interior) and 06 (chrome interior) sets, need to check for sure.

In reading more through this thread, it looks like you've got some folks with decent parts much closer to you than I. Look at all the muscle cars out there now with flat black hoods and seriously consider. It's your track car and it would look fine if you do the prep work and shoot it yourself with flat black. You could even do the tailgate to match and I would use Plasti-Dip because you can use tire dressing on it to keep it fresh and black.

As I have said numerous times, and I don't visit here enough anymore due to time restraints, but this is the best car community there is. I'm on several other forums and rarely do I see any brothers stepping up to help out another brother if there is an issue, and to see all of the support from the people on LGT makes me KNOW I've not been wrong in my assumptions.

Mr. Shralp-your track car will continue to live and the generosity of all of OUR brothers on this forum is recognized, noticed, and appreciated by all involved.

For sure guys, so happy to see people reaching out to help. I means a lot to me. Never would have known after buying the car in '06 and jumping on the forum 2 years later that I would have found myself here now in 2021.

Would LOVE a JDM clip but yeah budget is already a huge issue

With a much lighter wallet, some busted knuckles from wrenching, an expanded vocabulary and a bunch of smiles I'm guessing.

  • 1 month later...

Yes, things are finally starting to come together with the rebuild! Sgt. Gator was kind enough to drop off some parts today from the Subaru dealership and I've got a date booked to drop the car at the tuner next week to begin. Couldn't have done it without all my RBP brethren out there that stepped up to help; Gex, and Rhino6303 helped with hoods and bumpers and Boxkita helped with transport. Thanks again to all.

Pretty sure I have everything I need now to re-assemble between the new OEM stuff and some of the parts that were salvageable from the deer strike. Had to chuckle pulling a fresh Suby engine cover out of the box, one that I'll have to hack up tomorrow with my Grimmspeed Top Mount modification so it will fit, (yes I like keeping it..). Also need to do a slight trim on my new OEM intake snorkel so it pulls out of the Cobb airbox easier to allow quick access to one of my front splitter mounts at the track.

Super happy with the new, (used) bumper cover, it cleaned up nicely and while its not perfect, its in way better shape than mine had been over the past 10 years with all the road pepper. I also have a hood that should clean up nicely with bit of TLC.

Also decided to re-do my brake ducts while the bumper was off the car. I had been running black plastic Home Depot sourced gutter down spouts bolted to the back of the fog light enclosure and hooked to 4" brake hose for the past few years. With this I kept the fog light bezels out entirely. It worked great but was certainly not the most elegant solution and it did bleed more air than it needed to. I wanted to see if I could re-do the system with out breaking the bank and ideally go back to using the RBP bezels again. The foglight hole is nearly 3" in diameter, its just ovalized slightly. Home Depot to the rescue again! I found these rubber pressure fittings that come wrapped in aluminum sheet with worm clamps that are riveted thru so they won' slip off. They fit onto the backside of the bezel and stay put with one of the worm clamps. The other worm clamp near the back provides a perfect channel between the two to zip tie a 4" brake hose over the whole rig. Super happy with how it turned out and best of all its simple.

My JDM grill was destroyed in the deer strike so I fished out my old AVO grill that has been in storage and decided to re-vamp it. The original mesh I had put in looked great but it didn't flow much air and I needed something more open for track use so I dremeled out the epoxy blobs holding it in and sourced some new mesh from Custom Car Grills. This is the small hex mesh that they offer, I bought it in powder coated matte black. Once I re-templated, formed and re-JB Weld blobbed the new mesh its good to go!

Some pics below of the new parts, bumper cover, ducts 2.0 and grill re-deux...

Yup that's what I had before for a grill. Never really liked the mesh that it came with, it just looked low quality. You'll see from the shot of the AVO the the mesh I had on before was pretty tight. Fine for street driving but just not enough airflow if you're really pushing the car for long periods of time. Also included a shot of my V.1 brake ducts, definitely like the V.2 much better!

Just remove the grill all together when racing :spin:

Oh man, no grill is a total recipe for getting a chunk of debris through your radiator at 100 mph. I see it happen to the grill-less crew once or twice a season :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Christmas has come early for me this year, the track car is repaired and back home! Huge shout out to Arcflash here in Bend for their work!

After they were able to tear into it, they suggested that we forgo tack welding in the new radiator core support pieces and just nut-sert in the new assembly. Since its not a structural component there wasn't really any need to bleed more labor time for fab work. Also, if I do ding the front end again, (I better not!!), I can just unbolt the assembly from the car and install a new one. One added bright spot in all the destruction, my original headlights were getting pretty bad and these new JDM Depo ones have cleared corners which I think look much cleaner than the amber USDM ones.

Overall, super happy with how this turned out. I was able to keep the entire bill under $3500 and based on the carnage I'm calling that a win. Couldn't have done it without the generosity of forum members rhino6303, Boxkita, and Gex. Thanks again guys, the RBP hoods and bumpers kept the cash hemorrhage down to a minimum.

Some before and after shots below. Looking forward to next season!

Nice looks good and like the lights for sure so they make them for pre facelift sedans ?

They awesome at ARC Flash and very reasonable rates for the quality of work they do.

Glad you are back on the road.

We need to do a bend meet up after we get some good snow
