Fifth Generation- Official Power thread

To be honest I've been looking into the bosch water injection kits, Im sure they're ridiculously expensive but I'm really intrigued. Slight benefit in performance, reduction in gas usage, lower emissions, and less stress on the block.

Okay, really going off-topic again but this is the best writing on intercooling I've seen on the internet barring online engineering textbooks. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&title=Intelligent-Intercooler-Water-Spray-Part-1&A=0527

OK I still have a few more questions but i feel we're heading down the same path. I started a new thread with possibly even dumber questions to avoid jacking this thread, but this aspect of engine modification is all new to me and of recent interest.

Fwiw seeing my plots against 08+ stage2 stis coming out of the same shop. We spool almost 800-1200 SOONER, and about 20-30more hp and ballpark 20-40lbs more torque at 3000rpm.

So Ummmm ITS ALREADY BEEN BROUGHTEN! :p

Is that with the STi cams in or the stock LGT ones?

^^^ When my motor comes out for a clutch, I'm thinking it'll get new head gaskets, ARP studs, timing belt, idler, oil pump, and STI exhaust cams and springs. And maybe new mounts.

Is that logical set of things to do? Just brain storming.

The tricky part will be stopping there.

Stock for stock.

I have gsc stage1 cams in now. Midrange powerband opened up quite a bit on the stock turbo with them.

Oh that's right. I forgot you had the GSC items.

I was goig through my google drive to clean things up. Found this video of a third pull. It is taken from down low so you can not see anything outside. It gives a real good view of my AEM WBO2. Lets you see how limited the stock O2 is(bottoms out at 11.3 I believe).

Depends on the ROM. Most go to 11.02, and there's no good reason to run them richer than that.

I am not contradicting your info and thanks for correcting the 11.3 to 11.03. I new I was close, just not quite right. I just know that all the tuners I spoke with wanted a WBO2. Possibly to see if the car was too rich? Not sure, I just know they all wanted me to have it before my tune. Edited by BBPeik

My approach is to run 5th gens with built motors and/or meth injection at a full load AFR between 11.25 and 11.50:1

At that point I insist on having WBO2 data to be 100% sure of the final AFR. Same with any car fitted with an aftermarket intake, WBO2 mandatory.

On the stock block, stage 1 or 2 builds I rely on the very extensive and careful MAF scaling I've done on identical cars fitted with WBO2 sensors to run at 11:00 to 11:20:1 with confidence when only having the stock O2 data to refer to. I also use the stock O2 sensor's heater element resistance to warn of high EGT. I note 5th gen owners are a bit more fussy about integrating gauges into the car's interior than others, so they're less accepting of the usual mounting solutions.

Remember most tuners are used to working on cars with the O2 in the header vs. the post-turbo location, so they are used to that data being useless under boost. Of course even on the 5th gen the stock O2 accuracy drops off as you approach its rich limit, making the data less reliable. This is where the time invested into MAF scaling comes in.

Its a question of what you're used to and feel comfortable with.

I'd never turn down extra data if it were available or discourage anyone from acquiring extra data. Those with gauges installed have the chance to spot a failing fuel pump or FPR before anything bad happens.

Here is my latest pull, since the temps dropped into the 60s thought is might help out with some torque and HP figures, and once again no overboosting, my peak is probably .5 psi higher than in warmer weather. TA did a great job with the MAP.
