6th Gen Lighting Threads

Recommended Posts

I got in some overlays from emblemoverlays.com today. Where's the pictures you ask? Well, I didn't realize that the front and rear emblems are different sizes. Just never crossed my mind, and at a glance, both overlays looked the same size. I start putting one on the rear only to notice it's too big. No big deal, they sent the wrong size and I'll just trim up the edges with a razor. Go to the front emblem, and realize the overlay is way too small for the front. Ended up ruining everything, and was pretty salty I just pissed away $22. I ordered another set from a different vendor so hopefully that goes smoother.

Did you mean to post this in a lighting thread?

My guess is they'd be too hot. Are you running LED bulbs in OEM housings or a full LED housing like the morimotos?

I'm running LED on oem housing only.,

I have HID on my trucks fog lights and they've been fine so far and housing are plastics.

I'd highly recommend getting the Morimoto fogs then (or a similar LED fog with complete housing). $170 through Amazon and their output is awesome. Running HIDs in the fogs would likely be too hot and the output similar to what you have now.

I will second that. I just put my Morimoto's in yesterday and what a difference. It is considerably noticeable. Installation is also super easy. The hardest part I think was taking the bumper off lol. I wouldn't mess with HID in the fogs but I would imagine the output would be similar. Keep it simple

No need to take the bumper off, lift the front end and install from underneath. It took me maybe 20 minutes per side doing it this way.

You are correct. The front end corner covers underneath the car come off by removing a few push clips but you will need to either jack the front end up or roll it on ramps to give enough ground clearance. I was doing other mods that required the bumper off.

The only challenge with installing the fogs with the bumper off is leveling them. I had to stand the bumper on wood blocks, then disconnect the harness, lean the bumper forward and make adjustments.

Took a few pictures last night of the fog harness and the housing installed for future references...

Match the polarity on Morimoto's harness (red is hot / black is ground) to the car's harness. Before seating the prongs to the connector first plug them directly to the car's fog harness to make sure the fogs turn on. Once you check that, just seat the morimoto prongs in the provided connector plug. Make sure the prongs are inserted the right orientation and matching polarity to the car's fog harness. Removing the prongs from the connector after they are seated is a PITA. Below is how it looks completed with the polarities matched.

The oem fogs are held in by a screw and a push clip. Remove those and the oem fogs will slide out. Then when you mount the Morimoto's to the bumper will notice that only one of the holes on the outside bracket will line up with the bumper's mounting holes. That is ok and i only used the original screw secure the fog to the bumper and not the push clip. "The_Grey_Goose" did the the same to his and they are still on and holding up nicely. :)

fyi... you don't need to use the screws that come with the Morimoto fogs. you can set those aside.

Plug everything in and turn the lights on and make sure everything turns on. Now is a good time to check if the fogs are leveled. You can do this with the bumper off or on. I chose to do it with the bumper off. I leveled it off the floor (at height) on wood blocks and turned the metal screw on the morimoto housing to adjust them up or down as necessary. Clockwise will raise and counter clockwise will lower the the light.

Can these photos be reuploaded? I'm going to do a morimoto install tomorrow! :spin::spin:

Ordered a set of the Morimoto fog lights from Amazon C$140 with free shipping. Install will be next weekend hopefully.

Tail to turn and C lamps from DD is next on the list. Has anyone installed the C lamps themselves? I opened the headlight housings on my '05 a few times, wasn't difficult at all, just worried about the wiring, are they plug and play?

From what I understand, they are not plug and play. There are 4 wires that you need to run. Pretty sure Andrew_ls did the install himself as he's a DIY kinda guy.

This link below will give you some of the info, including link to other threads that might help. I did not install mine so I can't help you there, but I know they are not just plug and play. There are some level of wiring required but it isn't very hard from what I heard.

Installed the Morimoto foglights this afternoon; on a 1 to 10 difficulty I would say this is a 2. Very easy to do just by jacking the front of the car up and pulling the plastic undertray out of the way.

The Morimotos do give a much brighter light output, although hard to tell in daylight by how much. Also, does anyone have any tips on how to adjust them? From light threads I've seen before it's usually a case of parking so far away from a wall and measuring the height of the beam.

I did manage to get the securing screw and the popit in to hold them in place, just needs a little jiggling. The original securing bolt isn't a great fit as it has a shoulder on it which doesn't fit through the hole in the bracket, but there's just enough thread to make it tight.

On the drivers side there is a spare electrical socket on the wiring harness for the windshield bottle (picture attached), does anyone know what this is for, maybe JDM or European models have a rear windshield washer and wiper?

Does anyone in here know how to remove the tail light housing on a 15 Subaru Legacy, or where I can find a resource that would tell me how to do it? Thanks!

Without looking into it, I'd imagine it would be super simple. Just unscrew the grocery hooks in the trunk, pull back the liner, and undo some bolts.

My hero

Hang in there buddy! I paid my authorized dealer for the C-Light kit at the end of May so he could order them. I found out they still haven't been shipped yet by Diode Dynamics

Hopefully I get them installed in July.

Got the C-Lights installed today. Don't have a before pic but here they are installed. Much brighter than the stock C-Lights.

Here is a video showing the C-Lights as turn signals. The installer left the old signals hooked up but I don't like the old signals working with the C-Lights, so I am going to get the old signals disabled. Tell me what you think.
