2017 Legacy News and Rumors

Sorry fellas, being a fairly new home owner, a bed and tail gate would do wonders for me at times. I hate putting things in the back seat and do not prefer to load the trunk with bags of rocks or mulch.

Sounds like you need something like this,

Kind of why we got one of these,

Or where you looking for something more like this old Ford

08SpecB_DE,

There's a thread in the 4th Gen forum, "what did you haul in your wagon today". These are just cars, they are made to be used.

There is no replacement for displacement. I got my Legacy for the 6 cylinder boxer. Don't want to pay the other guy for flat 6

Compression is the replacement for displacement... don't believe me? lets see how my engine, that's 70% the size, does against yours.

Yes, that saying is true, but for less money than the 3.6r you can get almost twice the hp for less money with a new 5 liter Mustang GT.

and half as many wheels driven.

That's was true until they invented turbo chargers and superchargers...back about 1915 or so.

Looked at Mustangs (Mustang fan for years) before I bought my 3.6R. For a similarly equipped GT, $46k. I don't see how that's cheaper than my 3.6R.

So can I order a 2017 now? I was going tomorrow to do so but I see they don't even have 2017 Legacy on the Subaru website yet...

Yes I ordered one this week! About 1/3 dealers I contacted were clueless and said they didn't have the pricing available yet to quote.

Ordered one today. They had pricing but couldn't tell me exactly what changed for the 2017 model year (hopefully nothing)

Yes you can order a 2017, we have been building them for over 2 weeks now! And dime for dime spent on an engine, a 6 banger will never be as fast as a v8. 5k on a turbo for a 3.6 vs. 5k for a turbo on a mustang...you will never compete! You can have your bragging rights as to getting off the line faster but after 1st gear the race is done. I have a 2.5i and its slow as shit from a dead stop and the 3.6's aren't impressive at all for what everyone talks them up to be. It's like a harley vs hayabusa, the harley has twice the displacement and 1/4 of the hp, when you are 2 cylinders short it just can't be done!

Dood.... just relax

Can Subaru push the 3.6R engine closer to 300hp without forced induction?

Here are some examples of 6cyl engines in similar displacement range:

268hp (+12hp) with 3.5L - Camry

278hp (+22hp) with 3.5L - Accord

290hp (+34hp) with 3.5L - TLX

300hp (+44hp) with 3.5L - Maxima

335hp (+79hp) with 3.6L - Camaro LT

350hp (+94hp) with 3.6L - TVR Tuscan

350hp (+94hp) with 3.7L - 370Z Nismo

375hp (+119hp) with 3.8L - Boxter Spyder

Feel free to add.

But the majority of people looking at a 6cyl Legacy would most likely only also be looking at the Camry, accord, maxima, MAYBE TLX. But your statement still stands correct, even the cookie cutter Camry has more HP and they are not at all performance oriented!

Subaru hasn't made any chance to the EZ36 motor since they increased the displacement. I suspect Subaru is done developing the 3.6R, which why the HP is stay the same for all these years.

Subaru has mentioned in press releases about having Direct Injection all motor by 2020. Subaru is suppose to be releasing a new 7 seat model in the coming year, I suspect that the motor is in that vehicle will be the 3.6R replacement engine.

If you want to use premium gas I am sure they can hit 300hp

I recall when the 3.6 first came out, there was talk that it could easily reach 300hp, but Subaru didn't have a transmission that would handle it. I would think that the high-torque CVT should handle it now, but maybe it's too early in its life-cycle for them to take that risk.

Well, yeah, but they steadfastly refused to give us the 6-speed with the 3.6 in the US.

Also, offering a 300hp 3.6 w/ 6-spd would complicate things when their then-current automatics couldn't handle it. That would necessitate having a reduced-spec 3.6 for the autos (though they've done it before).

manufacturers have been doing this for years w/o telling us for years anyway. in HS i had a '03 maxima w/ a 6 speed that would cold smoke my friends '03 maxima with and auto. even with a then novice w/ his foot on the clutch. i would't doubt i had an extra 40 hp at the wheels the way he disappeared. and my brothers '06 TL is basically an S (which came out the next year) because it has a manual. it has a limited slip diff, different breaks, better shocks, better springs, different lug pattern, and suspecting different tuning. i just looked up the 0-60 times and they are 5.3 vs 5.9 (mt vs at). that's a massive difference....

either way i wish the 3.6 came w/ a 6-speed, i would have gotten that instead of the turbo if it had.
