Time for a new short block

Recommended Posts

I think whiteline only shows adjustable camber bushings for the rear and I don't think anything else.

Actually Whiteline is the only manufacturer that sells every single bushing for our rear end. Superpro has all but toe inward bushing, Nolathane has only 1 or 2 (which ironically is a whiteline sister company), doesn't seem like ES even has any rearward bushings for us.

screw it I think I'm going to replace the trailing arm with new as well as the control arms in the rear.

I would just replace all the poly bushings, it makes the car a little more uncomfortable, but worth it IMO.

I'm sure the rear toe bolt will be rusted so I might as well order those as well.

Get spare cam bolts etc., both times I had to grind the old bolts off.

Damn the other side went flat today in a much bigger way.. I'm seriously about to throw on some cheap rears to just get by I'm back to running on the tire I took off from the left rear which is now on the right..

My spare is getting tore up in a big way.. you can see how one day looks..

It's gotta be some major wear on those bushings holy crap I'd be shocked if a new tire lasts 5-9k.

I've never seen that bad of wear, you must drive a lot per day to see that kind of wear, even on bad alighment it would take me months to get half that kind of wear. Take it to an alignment shop ASAP, it seems like you have a lot of static toe, which could be from shot bushings, but it's just guess work at this point.

I'm going to tackle this while on vacation lol before I start cutting things I want to make sure I have the replacements ready.

I did a video as well I was pulling on the rear knuckle and you can see some play.. However I will post in my thread those rear toe bolts holy crap are they rusted... I'm not even sure what setting they are in now.

Based on those pictures left wheel should be close to 0 toe, but might be toeing out. Right wheel will be at slight toe in. Both of mine are set to what your right side is and I have about 1/8" total toe in.

Those bolts are super rusted, I doubt they will unscrew easily. Be careful with applying heat since it can damage the toe link bushing, which caused the whole bolt and busing crush tube to spin through and not come out for me. I had to cut it in multiple spots to get it out.

Finally your trailing arm bushings are shot too, worse then mine , congrats on having a rustier car then mine...

Based on those, I'm surprised your front tires are not being destroyed too.

Now I did notice something in your picture, first look at my UCA:

Now look at yours:

16028531019464f0f92f4fa45ca77768.jpg

Do you see the big black spot on the flat portion of the UCA? That's from your suspension bottoming out and engaging the bump stop. That causes infinite spring rates to occur and probably doesn't bode well for the shock's life either.

I believe when you lower the car, you need to cut the bump stop shorter to avoid premature contact like you are experiencing. Alternative is to increase the spring rates much more, to reduce the amount of travel the suspension experiences.

I’m think of going back to stock ride height it seems like no one makes any springs for the GT in stock height the dealer wants $62 per spring seems a bit high but maybe that’s me.

On top of that I need new top hats

The problem with most drop in springs is, they are too low and are not stiff enough. This seems to be a universal problem for all cars, though popular enough cars probably have most customized options.

I would look for springs that are -0.5" lower tops, but even then they might be too stiff for stock struts. This is why even cheap coilovers end up riding better then drop in setups, coilovers tend to be better valved for the stiffer springs.

Between the front control arms and the springs (Tien H-tech) it really jars the car bad my wife is really complaining about it now. Maybe it’s the stiffness that you are saying. I’m really tempted to get some drop ins due to the whole spring cost as well as all 4 top hats.

It's a pita if your bolts are rusty. Check the bushings and make sure they are not torn, mine were borderline.

All of my bushings were pretty worn out actually, I'm surprised I didn't have abnormal wear. Though I did eat my last set of tires in 13.5k miles, but it was pretty consistent across the tread so I think it's more of a #300WHP_Problems with cheapish all seasons.

I never checked to see how much power I'm making but I know after fixing the boost leak at the throttle intake and the cooler temps I can hit 18 psi pretty easy early in the morning.

I have to check next week on my car

Hey I just saw this I saw their is a bit of a gap where the toe adjustment is I wonder if I could use my saw and cut it off between the rear crossmember and the lateral link? That way I won’t have to go crazy trying to cut the head off.

Basically what I did on one side, but I couldn't swing it out still, so had to cut the head portions off to get it to twist out.
