Well - it's particles (not only electrons) that moves faster than the speed of light in the medium that they move (in this case water) - not faster than the speed of light in vacuum.

I was almost going to be the smart-ass who made that "correction" until I realized that he said, "moving at faster than the speed of light in water," rather than, "moving in water at faster than the speed of light." :p

For the Cherenkov fans, some pulses at the WSU research reactor. You can see the convective currents in the water on the later ones:

I went to a endurance kart race at Summit Point in the late 80s once. It was raining, karts at 100 mph on a 2 mile road course. Me with a camera at the apex of corners with no one to stop me. I've still got the 35mm pictures in the basement.

Only later did I realize how stupid I was to be laying or kneeling on the ground feet away from an object moving 100 mph in the rain to take a freaking picture. Good pictures, though!

I went over to Modesto for the down town kart race this summer. Didn't feel right at some of the turns on the track perimeter. So we walked to the infield with less risk, 20 years ago I'd probably not care. Yeah they had plastic K rail all over the place. Still no place to stand because you never friggen know.
