  1. just drive for a while...when you're done put your hand NEAR the brakes, do not touch, and feel if one's exceptionally hotter than the others, if so that's your problem child and it needs to be checked. how long after getting the brake work done did you start noticing the bad mileage?
  2. i'll talk to the shop...i'm waiting on the part to be delivered and i'll be straight up with the guy and tell him to just...make it work. either drop the donut or drop the adapter in, but...get it to work.
  3. king. thanks i'll look at that edit: ordered and on the way...
  4. well, wouldn't be a project for me if something didn't go wrong...dropped the car off monday to get the exhaust installed...they cut out the old exhaust, start installing it, and then i get a call that apparently i'm missing a piece. looking at the picture it's the adapter for the cat to the flex pipe section. so...gotta work with invidia to try and get that or...figure something else out. open to ideas! but, they rigged something up and basically puttied what was already installed to some stock pipe and it works kinda. so...aside from that, what's on there now sounds great! super happy with it, she finally sounds beefy. edit...talked to invidia and apparently there's nothing missing? i don't know. it doesn't bolt up so i'm going to get under the car this weekend or next depending when i have time and see what the hell i can figure out. hooray.
  5. auto diesel wagon right here. depends what you want in a car...the wagon's my daily and it's quick enough to get out of its own way, but not powerful enough to put me easily at high speeds/getting in trouble territory. i'd assume the beamer would handle fairly well too, so could be a mildly fun car. If you're looking for a highway bruiser the diesel is not going to be it. but...40 mpg vs the ~20 i get with the GT, while keeping miles off the GT and keeping it as my fun car...yeah, works for me.
  6. came in yesterday and just by looking at it, do it. hopefully installing it this weekend, so we'll see. My friend has been slowly modding her GLI and was on the fence about ordering a cat back. not one to be outdone i ordered mine first and she ordered hers basically right after. car people are bad influences.
  7. i mean, you're asking how an 80K+ truck is better engineered than a $30k truck?
  8. enthusiasts always have to remember generally cars aren't really made for them...a comfort suspension on chunky sidewall low rolling resistance tires and a high center of gravity does not a sports car make. if you want your big fat comfy family hauler to have any semblance of sport you're gonna have to make those upgrades. i knew going in to my wagon that it was gonna be big, fat, slow and roll-y...but it's comfy and eats miles, and that's what it was designed for...same with the outback. it's what i was looking for in a daily--comfort, and it's got that in spades.
  9. welp. friend got me drunk at the river and i made a decision. invidia q300 cat back ordered and on the way...
  10. judging by how quick stu moves his cars i don't know that he likes *any* on em:lol:
  11. still a good time to move cars, especially new, in demand ones. would be very surprised if he didn't get as much or more than he paid for it
  12. good job learning some new skills humble, those mirrors are gonna look sick once they're all fixed and done!
  13. ahh gotcha thought it was more recent than that. but i feel ya...first car i've cared about how the exterior stays and it's been tapped twice, and clear coat is failing all over the place. go figure. hope kid's got decent insurance and all yours gets taken care of.
  14. well, got the window regulator installed yesterday. couple things...if yours is going out do yourself a favor and change it before it's completely dead, and just get a new vapor barrier from the dealer..they're like $25, and the plastic rips way too easily to get it back right. if the window's stuck in the up position, ratcheting wrenches lets you get the 2 bolts for the actual window clamps, and breaking off a couple tabs off the regulator that holds the metal slide to the door helps you release the window. extremely straight forward, just a few bolts, but boy howdy was it a pain since i couldn't roll the window down.
  15. I've looked at 2 seats at my local junkyard and they weren't in great shape. I found one down the road at car-part.com that I'm going to take a look at eventually. If it's no good I'm tempted to just order full leather seats from katskinz or something like that but... we'll see.
  16. *gasp* the EJ is finally dead?! yeah not surprised on that note...kinda sad to see it go...was hoping they could have partnered with toyota to bring in a mild hybrid system to spank some torque in and use the new 2.4t and really get it going but, guess not. almost feels like when mitsu pulled the plug on the evo...end of an era.
  17. been spinning my wheels since i can't decide what direction i want to go with the car...needs a whole paint job, so undecided if i actually want to get that done, or just let the paint do its thing and turn sorta derelict and just keep her running well mechanically. so instead, i've started working on the interior, and figuring out suspension stuff. "new" weathertech mats from a friend selling his outback, actual new trunk liner, new back seat release thingies in the trunk since they both broke(50+lbs of bowling balls can be...unwieldy...), used steering wheel that's in much better shape than mine, and my window regulator decided to take a dump on me so i've got one of those on order. still need a couple extra bits and pieces here(deformed tweeter cover, for instance) that i'll grab at a junk yard next time i go to the good one, and the big thing is a new seat since the vinyl is cracked and splitting... certainly not the most fun update, but it's satisfying when everything's starting to feel nicer again.
  18. agree with FL. especially on radiators with plastic nipples the constant pressure clamps are the bees knees and cheap
  19. had a similar issue with my TL. everything else was solid but still getting a driveline vibration. took it to a shop to confirm my suspicions and it ended up being one of the CVs was gone...replaced both and she rode perfectly again.
  20. well...welcome...back? heck of a way to start your GT trip... got any plans for it or just gonna roll with it as stock for a while?
  21. gotcha, hey gotta start off with the easy stuff first lol. yeah sounds like it'd either be a blend door issue, or an issue with the hvac control system.
  22. i've heard of project creep, but dang that's serious. good stuff that you finally got it back together and running, hopefully it's on the road soon, gonna be a whole new car.
