What did you do to your 5th gen today?? -V4
creep_nu replied to SBT's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
maintenance weekend...annual inspection expired end of last month, i was in need of an oil change and tire rotation, so got her on stands and took care of all of that and inspected all of the crap they do, should pass with flying colors...should. brakes have started pulsing pretty badly though the pads have tons of life left, so i'm going to be getting a new set of rotors and pads here shortly to toss on, just gotta decide what i want to go with -
i've been using bridgestone re92s and they've been good, but i'm going to be switching next time...i keep hearing good things about generals and might end up going that way. they're the budget brand for contis, and i've had good luck with contis in the past so i'm curious.

5th gens are getting more and more common in junk yards as transmissions fail early and are cost prohibitive to change...nobody's putting 5-7k in to their car that's worth 5-7k. my junk yard has 10 5th gens at the moment...really need to make a trip up there and see if there's any goodies i need... -
Im so confused... Suspension posts...

nobody really makes quick struts for these cars, so the drop in is a little more involved, but like the others have said the upgrade to 13/14 struts and springs should make a solid difference -

you get all the funnest bits humble...love it -
if i remember right, because of the 5th gen's master cylinder and rear calipers, you need to use black sti brembo rears if you're upgrading to the cadillac fronts to keep some semblance of a correct brake bias...so while it's still less expensive than going for a full set of sti brembos, it's still not super cheap

i got a big assortment set of different size push pins and a baggy of 100 of the bumper size pins a few years back, they're so handy to have around, definitely recommend everyone to have them and just replace them when they're sticky or one of the legs break or whatever -

good looks getting that set, glad to hear it worked out for ya after some fiddling -
happened to mine too, after cleaning with some pb blaster and compressed air i lubed it up with some silicone spray. i condition all the rubber seals door/trunk/hood seals with silicone spray every fall, so i just added the latch mechanism to that list...

that far north it could just be that the fuel at that particular kwiktrip was old and had some water in it. legitstreetcars on youtube ran in to that issue in one of his vids, that since all the toys were put away for the winter and most cars are only requiring regular nowadays, the premium just doesn't get used as much and with ethanol being hygroscopic it picks up water and makes your car run like crap...just a thought

Car Starting issue "partially my fault"
creep_nu replied to Sonder's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
not sure if it does anything, but do you completely remove the key from the ignition barrel before trying again? -
i think once subaru dropped the manual option years back they also dropped any pretense of the legacy being a sports sedan option

P0303 Error code on WOT 2010 Legacy GT 2.5
creep_nu replied to phillbert's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
good stuff! simple is always better... might be worthwhile to switch out all of the coil packs while you're in there, spark plugs too if they haven't been done in a while, if you can afford all of it, but sounds like you should be back on the road soon -
P0303 Error code on WOT 2010 Legacy GT 2.5
creep_nu replied to phillbert's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
p0303 is a misfire code, so the most likely source is going to be a coil or plug, but like you said an injector or leak may also be at fault. if it's me i'd start with swapping #3 coil to another cylinder and see if the misfire follows/presents a new code for the new cylinder that coil is on. if so, then you've got a bad coil--either replace it or replace all. if the coil is at fault, while replacing them i'd go ahead and replace all of the spark plugs as well if they haven't been done recently since they're cheap and easy maintenance/wear items. if the misfire doesn't follow, i'd inspect the spark plug on cylinder 3 first, and if it all looks good(good gap, electrode is still in place) then you get to start leakdown and/or compression tests. if all of that checks, then you're moving on up to more intensive diagnostics.
