  1. yeah, my folks got one of the n/a CX-5s coming up on a year ago, for what it is they're nice. the white leather interior is absolutely gorgeous though
  2. Can't ask for anything more than that from a car. I'm not one for crossovers/SUVs personally, just not my style, but of the ones out there the RDX and mazda CX-5 are top of the list
  3. not sure if they'd take it, but if you look at subaru's online parts system you'lll find only one cat. https://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_2010_Legacy-25L-TURBO-6MT-4WD-GT-Premium-Sedan/_54102_6021266/AIR-DUCT-EXHAUST-10MY-12MY/B14-073-02.html for the actual cat (P/N 44612AA490) https://parts.subaru.com/a/Subaru_2010_Legacy-25L-TURBO-6MT-4WD-GT-Premium-Sedan/_54102_6024321/EXHAUST-EXHAUST--MUFFLER-10MY-12MY/B14-440-07.html for the rest of the exhaust system
  4. from what i've seen, remove the bar portion, not the mounts, cut holes in the carpet, and reinstall the bar to the mounts.
  5. if you've got a junk yard near you you can probably find a spare and tool kit there...hell you can buy a $30 trolley jack from harbor freight and a 19mm socket and breaker bar and have a better tool kit than subaru would ever supply. not sure if it'd fit but you might be able to grab a full size wheel and tire to keep in there as well...
  6. considering a trans is around 6k from the dealer, that's closer to 2k on the install. at the dealer. a local indy will probably be cheaper.
  7. god we can only hope not, leave the chromies in the bin where they belong
  8. Picked up an accessport from Tuck and tuned the car today. 93 octane stage 1 map, and holy balls does that torque down low make a *huge* difference. Very, very worthwhile to do on even a stock car...making me want to go stage 2.
  9. if you're looking further away you can always have a pre-purchase inspection done. might cost you 100-$200 or whatever, but a local indy subaru shop would be able to give a good idea on the health of everything before picking it up. can get pricey if you're doing it on multiple cars, but if you find what appears to be a good one owner with decent miles, might be worth the extra cost before driving/flying out
  10. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/bendix,SBC1124,brake+pad,1684 looks like the shims are already on there. if yours don't look like that you should take em back and either look at a different kit(quality control issues) or a different brand
  11. that's a big thing to remember...on an enthusiast board, with people who are modifying their cars(generally), reliability is going to go down and bigger problems are going to crop up "more often". Also, a lot of these cars are hitting higher mileage being 10 years old, and any 10 year old car is going to have its share of issues just in general...just part of the game when not buying new.
  12. i used an independent subaru specific shop for my HGs(full head gaskets/machining, valve job, new valve seals, a couple new lifter buckets and one new rocker),--including a new stage 1 clutch(mine was fine, but might as well while you're in there) and machined flywheel, a bunch of new seals(front and rear main, oil pan, and a couple other random seals), PCV, and other general little finnicky maintenancey things, the total came to about $4500. if i skipped the clutch and didn't go so hard on the heads and just had them skimmed it would have been closer to $3750, but i love this car and plan on keeping it forever, so what's another $750 to get the engine back perfect?
  13. you're forgetting about all the people that keep up with the joneses, as well as people taking advantage of incredibly low interest rates. a bunch of my coworkers have been buying new cars over the last few months because why not? they were going to in the next year or two anyways, there's deals out there now, and 0% financing is a hell of a drug
  14. yeah, these cars are definitely niche, and finding someone who *wants* one and is willing to pay for a good example, versus someone who will just kinda take one if the price is right is a completely different thing...gotta see if you can snag a would be wrx buyer and sway em over to the dark side of no platform support and aftermarket ha
  15. ain't that the gosh darn truth. seems most of us here have moved past the owning a car stage to their car being a hobby, which lets you spend way more than you should when considering the value of the car and loss of any money on mods at resale time.
  16. you're certainly right on those cars being junk, but the nostalgia factor and always wanting them when I was going through high school and college is in those cars. saturn ion redline? sign me up. sentra SE-R spec v? yes please. the dirty things i'd do for another mkiv gti that's not dogged with 200k miles for a reasonable price... but at this point they're all ratty to the point of not being cost effective to restore, or overpriced. my 5-10 year plan is to move on to a 2nd gen cayman S, which will probably change, but that's what i'm aiming for, and i'll probably land on a c6 corvette
  17. yeah the computer and electrical parts are the issues for me...brain doesn't work that way. there's a bunch of pre-recession sporty cars, but they're all 10-15 years old, and since they were cheap weren't taken care of (looking at you srt-4, cobalt ss, saturn sky etc...), and the ones that were taken care of are expensive since they're becoming collector's items(see 1998 civic SI selling for 50k....). i know i'm missing the obvious high performance cars like the camaro and mustang, but eh they just don't tickle my fancy.
  18. yeah...in my eyes everything's just gotten too expensive, too high horsepower, and too automatic. not to mention all of the infotainment and extra gadgetry on them. aside from a tune, it's not as easy to modify them and/or work on them as they were as little as 10 years ago. people want quiet luxury(and SUVs but that's a whole nother story) at this point, so all the fun weird random sporty cars are gone, so you're left with the brz/86 twins and miata, or you're spending corvette/porsche money and that's...a lot.
  19. yep, had to do that with my old outback(which i coincidentally traded in on the GT). sometimes, no matter how much you love the car, it just doesn't make sense to keep throwing money and time at it...always disappointing and leaves a hole in the heart, but what can ya do? time marches on.
  20. strong bump from the dead. doesn't look like this ever got off the ground.
  21. yeah, he said he was beating on em for an hour, torch, penetrating oil, the usual, nothing getting it unstuck, so...is what it is. yeah, i bought a house a little over a year ago, so i've now got a shed that i can use to actually store stuff, been buying all the tools since and i'm loving it...no more having to keep everything stored in a 26" tool chest, and being a PITA to move apartment to apartment every other year
  22. yeah, said outer's seized on the inner, can't get it to adjust. i'll get it in the air and see what i can do, but sounds like i'm probably going to need to cut them off, so hooray for buying an angle grinder.
