  1. yeah empi, old school turbos/vacuum systems, locked down ECUs and OBD1 do not sound like a fun time to me either
  2. yeah that was just a quick look on pricing, i'm sure there's deals out there on both, but...
  3. eh, the srt8s are like...2-3x the price of a trailblazer, they didn't sell as many so pricing's going to remain on the higher side. not saying the ss isn't without its faults, it most certainly is, but if you like trucks with big engines, could be a decent way to go. you wouldn't even find me dead in one though haha
  4. becasue LS? strap a supercharger on there and have a 500hp beast of a daily? same reason people buy typhoons, because they're relatively uncommon and kinda cool
  5. started getting some burning coolant smell a couple weeks ago. i couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so had to take it in to the shop...finally got a slot today. looks like it's a pinhole in one of the coolant lines coming off the turbo. getting all of the lines in that area replaced and new hardware. just gonna take a week to get all the parts in since nobody really stocks them of course
  6. you'd need a power probe or similar. i'm not an expert on wiring(far from it, i *hate* electrical), but from my understanding if you're getting power there then the actuator would likely be at fault, but if not then you've got a wiring issue. you may also be able to hook the actuator up to the other side(i would assume the wiring/connectors are the same) and see if it works there to confirm if it's the actuator that's at fault. kinda like swapping engine coils to see if the coil's at fault or something else...
  7. yep, drove a couple mkiv vr6 GTis, and while my 1.8t was no slouch, it didn't hold a candle to the VRs. great fun engines
  8. scuba's right, try powering it directly to see if there's a fault in the mechanism and test it with a multimeter to see if it's getting power/has a fault in the wiring, and go from there.
  9. would look near as battle ready, but i'd bet you can cut out some chunks of the bumper and get it to cover the sides and bottom. might have to do some creative zip tie engineering to get it to not flop around under the tire carrier, but it wouldn't be too awful bad
  10. i've just used one of those cheap generic bluetooth OBD2 scanners and torque on android for years. Wont' get in to ABS or SRS stuff, but for all of the generic codes and things i've never run in to an issue.
  11. GL...had multiple ball joints stuck on multiple subarus, and no matter how much pounding on the control arm i was never able to get them to release, and i live where there's no salt and rust on the cars...i understand not wanting to drop the dime, but it really makes the whole job much, much easier...first time i used it on my old outback with 250k miles the ball joint popped out in about 30 seconds after i had heated and beated on it for 2 days.
  12. you need to get yourself one of these bad boys. they'll pop the ball joints out right quick https://www.amazon.com/Astro-Pneumatic-Tool-78620-Subaru/dp/B01JBJFK3C/ref=sr_1_3?crid=VX9C11L04FE4&dchild=1&keywords=subaru+ball+joint+tool&qid=1608758067&sprefix=subaru+ball+%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-3
  13. yep, hope it's not, but if you ever end up having to do head gaskets, might want to make sure you're using a reputable shop that knows what it's doing and will check and replace those things
  14. gratties. feels good to make that final payment eh? also ouch, 6 year loan on a used car, loan terms are getting cray
  15. i am so amped on this project! it's so far out of the norm that we see on here that it's just...lovely. great work and keep it up, can't wait to see where this thing goes. full on battle spec and i love it.
  16. my engine had run rough at cold idle since i got it(100k miles). When I had my head gaskets done(145k miles), i had a couple worn shims and buckets replaced and valves adjusted and was absolutely floored at how smooth it idles on cold starts in the cold. could be something like that for you.
  17. sad to see ya go, hope whoever bought it enjoys it and sounds like you want all things at once. may i suggest a converted pontiac g8 to a ute? https://lefthandutes.com/
  18. yep, i go off of feel in the rain moreso than the actual depth as well. once it starts feeling a little squirrely in heavy rains it's time for replacements.
  19. have you checked/replaced your other suspension components(control arms, bushings, etc) as well, or just the struts? did you replace the strut mounts when replacing the suspension? could be a whole whack of things that are making noise
  20. yep, a chunky rear sway bar is a must. lucky you to find a low mileage example, as these things reach the decade mark they're getting rarer and rarer to find low and unmolested. GL with it
  21. white is quickly becoming one of my favorite colors for cars, that sti looks great
  22. fair enough, makes sense then. a supercharged brz would be super fun though
  23. if it were me, and i was supercharging, i'd just go 1st gen..more availability of parts, easier tuning, etc etc, plus a whole crapload cheaper than buying a brand new car...
  24. Don't blame ya. Unless it's a hit and run the rear ones seem way less useful to me
