  1. I'm hoping so Max. Would like to keep these lumps together. Interesting that others on the interwebs are saying the same thing as far_side. Run it. :/ Cause sounds like overtourqed plugs. Great, self inflicted wounds are not awesome. Will let some folks get their coffee fix finished up and start making some calls. I know you guys are getting ready for lunch. Were still waking up.
  2. Looking at it this way. Used I'm looking for two. The reading I pulled through last night was in conclusive what other models have this same head config. Looked like I could call out some year of WRX as well for the JY search. If new is an option financially. I may try this route and deck the same. Unless this one is fixable I have to call around today and see if this seems possible.
  3. WAT! So your not only telling me it should be tighter tolerance but I can run this head with cracks in it. What could be the cause of these cracks? Would always be suspicious if I moved forward without addressing. Will be calling a welding wizard today. Has helped be in the past. Not sure if his bag of tricks extends to this madness though. Looking for used and new quotes for a slab of aluminum. Will decide once I have answers.
  4. Manley is recommending .003 for mild and .0035 for high boost. I'd say somewhere right between those will do fine. Rotating parts are in the garage. Balanced the rods and crank. Polished the bearings. Pistons were already a balanced set. Bummer #1 Case has not been decked yet. Expect him to take till next week. Bummer #2 Passenger head has cracks. I need to find another head.
  5. I hope that's sarcasm or your hangover talking... Speaking of liver damage. It's time to start or take a nap.
  6. Oh yeah. If you try to reseal the old rubber will probably not take it.
  7. All good. I understand, had plenty of experience with hose clamps in marine and land based applications. Hi, my name is KZR750R1 and I'm a hardware junkie. Understood on the nut and bolt post break in. Yours start to leak after some heat cycles?
  8. ^At your mileage don't bother. At the most flush call it good.
  9. So wait. Your talking about the new or old pistons? Thought you honed up to 99.75mm and dropped new pistons? It is progress, just slow. At this stage I expect da machine shop to be fair on the price. I've been more than accommodating on time allotted. Daily phone calls now. Going to make a stab and get the rest of the parts. Tomorrow complete a good second stab list of parts needed. Start sourcing a paycheck at a time. Have found the hose clamps I like but time to see if I can get the sizes needed and price that is reasonable. May buy bulk just to have some to share if they work well. Tools are next. Ring compressor and the 3 company 23 wrenches for our motor. Won a $50 amazon card but I don't like signing up for spam parasite web retailers. I'll use it though. Vultures.
  10. Good deal... Nice to hear your getting it back on track. Called today... Blocks bored and honed. Rotating parts are still with the crank shop for polish and balance. I should have band rehearsal happening on Wednesday so I'll go over before and pick up what is ready then. Gonna start pestering, these guys have had my parts for long enough. Divorce kicked me in the nuts again with cash output... Had to pay just under a grand in legal and filing fees. But shits rolling forward and no more expected BS (or expenses) on that front after this week. Good riddance. November is going to be tight as I will need to go out of town on business for two weeks. Least I'll get some OT jack out of the deal. Guess I need to buy that ring compressor this weekend.
  11. Common GT that's a day trip. SLR in hand to help Mike with photos and make your car the test bed.
  12. Not cranking down... Ensuring I have the control of the pressure applied and not a limitation of the hardware. The spring clamps we have were too much constant pressure and we see leaks. It's the not too much and not too little situation. Regarding over thinking. Hope to never stop. Will be here. Block is I hope next week. Heads with it or soon to follow. I'll be fitting what I can. Need to get a ring compressor. Eyeballing Company23 but I really want a solid sleeve type. Will be getting the cam gear wrenches fo sho.
  13. Smooth hose clamp question... Need hose clamps for the Free Range Hose kit and Rad hoses. Need to be smooth inside to keep from eating into the silicone hoses. There are two or three designs I see out there. 1) worm gear with overlaping band material covering the grooves. 2) stamped worm gear grooves. 3) pinch clamp style I'm thinking #1 would be best.
  14. 52 miles door to door if I go into the office. Office is on N. First.
  15. That helps. Nothing like Grandma and Grandpa helping out with the butt nuggets. Out in Tracy now after a stint in Livermore for a few years. Ex and I tried a weekend in South Lake Tahoe a few years back. Guy walked into the elevator and asked "where you two from?" Hearing Tracy he then replied, "Tracy is an hour from everything." Yup. Pretty much nailed it casino guy.
  16. So many bloody people. Increases the percentage if ignorant jack holes.
  17. Mine didn't' come out clean. If I remember right there is a lip on either side of the mating surface. Pulling them out a couple of the lip disintegrated. Although high on the head I've had to fight these type of seals before on the KZ. Those are literally at the top. These laying on the side would be much more prone to leaking. I'll get new ones. As for the gaskets... I hear ya. One of those over the beer arguments about OEM. Although an aftermarket company may get lucky and build a better mouse trap. OEM spend millions in R&D that the little guy usually isn't... I vote OEM head gaskets as well.
  18. Questions come up while pondering risk. How many thousandths can be shaved off the ends of the valve stem? I have the subaru gasket kit with head gaskets but without half moons. Use the Subaru head gaskets or find some other UBER head gasket?
  19. Finally made it over to Hayward today. Remember why I don't live in the east bay any more. Caught them while my block was in the hone. Was cooling at the time. He has to take it in stages to meet tolerance. Dropped off the stock valve retainers and valve seals from the gasket kit that arrived Monday. They also have an after market valve seal kit I picked up as well. Will let them see what looks like will fit and last best. I will have the balanced crank, rods, pistons and block back for assembly mid next week. Heads to follow. They are gearing up for more Subaru mayhem in the future. Going to jig up for these heads on the decking mill. Cut down on setup time and improve consistency.
  20. Going to stop in today. Work has be busy lately. I need to keep them happy too.
  21. The kW threw me for a bit too. What happened to us moving to the metric system? I was taught both as a kid. Now I don't even think it's covered in school. Will have to check my daughter and see if the do.
