  1. Meh. It's in. Ready to chuck on a stand. Looking for the stud and bolt size mating the motor to the front diff. Can't find them for some reason.
  2. Rear main seal pissing me off... Going over to a friends house that has a small Folgers can for me.
  3. Strange the plugs have a call out for sealant in the FSM and a crush washer yet show no signs of residual sealant was installed... Hence the oil leaks. Granted they were not bad leaks but leaks none the less that turned the oil into carbon crudness. Going back in now with fuji bond coated threads.
  4. Almost a month. Yeah, that and life in general... Cleaning parts right now to button up the SB and get it on the stand this weekend. Need to clean the plugs that cover the wrist pin access. All of them had residual blow by oil/carbon crud on them. I'll be putting some fuji bond on the threads when they go it in addition to the crush washers.
  5. Stuttering and off idle stumble can also be the oil control valves. I fought my car for a long time till I changed these. IT's 180 bucks well spent if you have these symptoms. But intake leaks need to be fixed first.
  6. How any of you have cars under 100K blows me away! Only reason I don't have more than 160K is I started telecommuting 90% of the time 4 years ago.
  7. Last of the parts are here. Pretty sure I can keep moving now. Started to feel sick last night... and confirmed today... I'm sick. This thing is going on the motor stand soon.
  8. Water pump outlet. Overkill for sure. Did I need it, no. Is it going on the motor, yes.
  9. Subaru parts ordered, should be the last of it. Transmission seal Screws for the back plates Head to case dowels, cause I can't find them for some reason. Not a huge deal if I do. Will look more this weekend. Will have to check and confirm. I think this is the last of the order from Infamous. Snout!
  10. Mid to early February is likely unless I run into some other stupid roadblock. I should have all my parts next week. Slow for sure, I should beat Rootbeer and Boxkita at this pace though.
  11. Starting to pile up. Still need some small bits. Gonna make a trip to the stealership this week for an order on the rest. Have company 23 stickers to burn as well...
  12. Dead as in??? There are so many ways. No compression Spun a bearing Cracked a ring land HG failure
  13. These came out clean... No idea how the machine shop did it. Just need to track them down. By nature I'm a horder so no way I've thrown them out. Still a couple of Items I'm not finding a source for other than the stealership. For sure going to replace all the screws for the backing plates. These were a little munged getting out with an impact driver. I don't want to have hicksta traces in my build if I can help it.
  14. Have some more parts and tools inbound. Assembling the final bits and pieces so I'm not stalled waiting once I start.
  15. Go buy the new one from Subaru for 2 bucks. Thicker one may have issues seating still, like folding a little while you press the 90 adapter back in the pump.
  16. Good point. Think I have a decent compromise in play. All remains to be seen if they were good choices.
  17. If you buy a new ring compressor from HF, do yourself a favor. De Burr the inner flap of the coil. Pistons in before midnight Pacific. So It's a short block by 2014... Wrapped for 2015.
  18. Before I load these rings up I'm going to make one final gap check. Just like I checked torque again on the connecting rods before dropping the crank in. Check (done), Double check (done) , Triple check (next) , install... Repeat.
  19. Well it looks I'm going in on the tight end of the scale. Well see how loud this pig is once we light the fire. I nudged open the ring gaps .001 to .0015 more than my calculations called for. So I'm at a tight .021 on the oil scraper and a tight .020 on the compression ring. From what I can see it's at a .003 wall clearance setup. Yes, I have the standard ARP head kit. What I need to find are the alignment dowels... First things first though. Install Pistons, Rear main seal and covers, chuck it in the motor stand.... Today.
  20. Daughter went ice skating first... Then this happened. Pistons will drop in the morning.
  21. Man these Chrome rings take some passes to grind down. The Iron scraper rings are ready in no time. On the last ring set now. Looks like I'll have a short block done this week. My daughter can assist on this week off. Keep some of her brain working on this school break.
  22. 30 second to one min I'd consider being light duty. Given in a street drive be allowed to reset between pulls and not always on the pipe. His point makes sense in the fact that heat has little time to dissipate on a track application. So when more heat is present we need a little more slop in the tolerance to allow materials to expand and not suffer seizure.
  23. Well after spending a good chunk of the day on measuring pistons and bore, I'm ready for the next phase. Bores are flat even between each other and so are the pistons. Whew. Piston-Bore=Wall clearance" 3.918-3.921=-.003" and the target is met for my intended boost range. Now with that I will take the 3.921 bore x .005 to get target gap of .020". 16+ Lb boost would call for .006 as the multiplier. Little torn here. It would be nice to have a higher boost target on a stage 2 tune later down the road. If I was to go for 16+ on boost it would call for .004 more gap... But! Probably going to stick with the mild boost number regardless. I don't expect to get crazy on HP tunes.
