  1. As I've understood it, that corner is actually the most prone to failure. When I installed my kit I actually spoke to Jeff about possibly omitting this piece since it seemed wasteful to buy a whole 8' piece of aluminum just for a 3" piece to install. He let me know that the passenger side corner on the front is the most prone to failure so the piece is necessary. To my knowledge, the other corners are not prone to failure, especially with the rest of the kit installed. You should not have a problem as long as you install the kit PRIOR TO any sort of extreme failure. The tabs on my intercooler were starting to separate a little bit (from 60k miles at stock boost), but they easily pinched back down and the kit has performed well through my stage 2 install, tune, and subsequent driving (~5k miles so far).
  2. Stock fluid from stealership. Get 5 qts for a drain and fill.
  3. I should also mention that I would like for someone local to test the kit with the zip ties if possible prior to shipping all the remaining kits. Local means the Northern Virginia area. Let me know if you are interested in testing fitment / installation.
  4. This first kit was also a homemade version--the same type of kit is also installed on my car. It's my hope that by going through a machine shop for future kits that any extensive finish work will be unnecessary.
  5. Started a thread for producing / selling the kits: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/bullet-proof-tmic-kits-189608.html. Get on it!

CONTACT ME DIRECT HERE WITH ANY QUESTIONS: bptmic@gmail.com WATCH THIS VIDEO FOR TIGHTENING THE STAINLESS STEEL TIES: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4022125&postcount=83 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrRjBk4sEck]DSC 0007 - YouTube[/ame] Hi everyone! For those of you who read this post http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/bulletproof-tmic-mod-lgt-08-wrx-158870.html you already know what this is. For those who haven’t read it, if you are still running you 05-09 LGT or 08+ WRX with the stock TMIC I highly recommend taking the time to read through the thread. This modification has been around for some time now as an alternative to those looking to beef up their stock intercooler (either for durability or for increased boost levels) for a reasonable price—not everyone has the cash or the need for an aftermarket TMIC in order to meet their needs. One of the problems with the kit up until now is that the fabrication of the metal pieces required for the kit is difficult, time consuming, and potentially dangerous to those without a reasonable amount of experience in cutting metal. While my second attempt and making my own kit was successful, the first attempt ended with a pile of bent metal and bloody fingers. With SeeeeYa’s permission (Thanks, Jeff!), I have been looking at some scenarios to get a number of kits fabricated professionally by a machine shop and I believe this will prove to be the solution to providing these kits to those who need them at a reasonable price. I’m pretty confident that the machine shop is set to produce some kits for me, and I’ve been given the go ahead to move forward with this as a homebrew vendor to supply them. Two kit will include:all of the required aluminum pieces for the kit, plus 2 stainless zip ties to use in lieu of any other sort of mounting hardware (bolts, threaded rod, etc). Pieces in this kit will be straight-cut on each end (instead of angled) and a “groove” will also be machined along the entire length of each of the longer pieces to hold the zip ties; they will not be drilled unless specifically requested. This kit should have everything you need to "bullet proof" your stock TMIC. It should be noted that the stainless steel zip ties will need to be tightened sufficiently, which may or may not be able to be completed with normal tools (read: pliers, vice grips, etc.). It's highly recommended that you purchase a "CV Joint Banding Tool" to use to sufficiently tighten and secure the zip ties--it will make things immensely easier and you can pick one up online for ~$10-15. Video of zip tie installation with the tool: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4022125&postcount=83 To confirm, here’s what will be included in the kit: Four (4) pieces of aluminum channel designed and cut to fit on the top/bottom of the stock TMIC where the end tanks attach to the core One (1) piece of aluminum channel designed and cut to fit on the front passenger corner of the stock TMIC where the end tank attaches to the core Two (2) stainless steel zip ties Three (3) plastic zip ties One (1) corbin clamp Instructions for installing the kit ORDER YOUR KIT HERE: https://sites.google.com/site/bptmickit/ Where can I get the tool to tighten the stainless steel zip ties??? A few choices: NAPA Autoparts, Amazon ([ame=http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-30950-Joint-Banding-Tool/dp/B0002SRCZQ]here[/ame], or I prefer [ame=http://www.amazon.com/OTC-4623-Joint-Banding-Cutter/dp/B00063XX5U]this one[/ame]). I also think that some Autozone's rent them for "free" (you pay for it, then return it when you're done through their rental program). VERY IMPORTANT CAVEAT: The term "Bullet-Proof" when used in referring to this kit is not meant to imply that installing this kit will make your OEM TMIC impervious to high speed munitions fired from any sort of projectile weapon, device, machine or similar. This kit is only designed to prevent boost pressure from causing end tank separation, and nothing more. DISCLAMER Neither I nor the original designer of this kit can take responsibility in the case of damage to anything on your vehicle that results indirectly or directly from the installation of this modification. If you doubt your capacity, do not undertake the installation of this modification; ask for help or have it installed by someone qualified.
  7. Selling the trailer hitch I bought from aferrari88^^ just a bit ago. Don't think I'm gonna end up needing it after all. Hitch is for 1/2" receivers, would be great for a bike rack, trailer, etc. Only selling locally (22303) and looking to get what I paid, $50.
  8. Noted. Looks like the zip tie kit will be popular so I'll probably look to cut the pieces "to order" since the zip tie kit pieces will be slightly different (no angles, slightly shorter overall). I will also look into the method for notching the pieces to securely hold the zip ties. Neither should be a problem with producing the kits and the milling work along the length of the pieces will still be completed by the machine shop.
  9. Check this out, some great pics of the zip tie use: http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3824153&postcount=316
  10. Here's the list so far: scoobyscoodle (kit #2) 96r50 .:Catalyst:. (kit #2) ttnio Lucid (kit #2) BoozeRS05 (kit #2) Only interested if kit #2 is produced: hadvw If I can get 10 or so people to commit to buying a kit I should be able to pull the trigger on getting the kits made. It's a not-so-insignificant investment including the aluminum, the mill work, and the zip ties since folks seem to want those. Once the interest is there, I'll ask for deposits and pay the man to get it done. I will plan to sell two types of kits: Kit #1: will include all of the required aluminum pieces for the kit, drilled to the original specs for using threaded rod or to another hole diameter if requested (I will drill the kits "to order"). You will need to buy your own mounting hardware (bolts, nuts, threaded rod, etc.) Kit #2: will include all of the required aluminum pieces for the kit, plus 2 stainless zip ties to use in lieu of any other sort of mounting hardware (bolts, threaded rod, etc). Pieces in this kit will be "notched" to hold the zip ties; they will not be drilled unless specifically requested. This kit should have everything you need to "bullet proof" your stock TMIC. Initial price for Kit #1 will be $57 shipped. Kit #2 will be $77 shipped (to cover the cost of zip ties as well as the additional work of "notching" the pieces). Please let me know what type of kit you would like if you express interest. I do not have a method for notching the pieces to accept zip ties yet. I will explore options to find a suitable method that provides a good result. If I cannot find a satisfactory method I'll let everyone know. Right now I have to reserve the right to make some changes to the kits if necessary (i.e. if not that many people seem to be interested in zip ties I may not purchase / provide them). If your name has been mistakenly added to the interest list above please let me know.
  11. I've been talking to a local machine shop to actually make a bunch of the kits. If Seeeeya OK's me getting these made and there is enough interest, I may pull the trigger and have them do a run. If you're interested, shoot me a PM and I'll keep a list going. Price for the kit would be right around $50 and the kit would include all of the necessary aluminum pieces with holes predrilled for you. You would have to buy your own hardware (screws, nuts, threaded rod, whatever). If you wanted a specific size hole for using different types of hardware I should be able to "drill them to order". If I'm doing something against the forum rules here or if SeeeeYa doesn't want me doing this since it's his design, just let me know. Otherwise, tell me if you're interested in a kit.

  15. That's only one part. You also have to have 200k miles or $200k worth of parts on your car.
  16. I'll give you a sammich...with bacon. I'll be patiently awaiting your phone call to arrange a time to meet up. Good day, sir.
  17. OEM lugs, yes. Don't have the wheel locks tho'.
  18. Agreed, not much you could really put on your hands that would protect you from a power saw of any kind. I suggest the gloves for holding onto a freshly cut piece of aluminum with sharp edges. I guess it could be argued that the gloves could get caught on the metal which could get caught in the saw which could suck your hands into the saw. Whatever, do what you want--risks both ways. Just be careful.
  19. What? I could understand not wearing gloves that don't fit, but recommending that someone not wear gloves when they will be handling metal with non finished edged (i.e. the aluminum once you cut part of it) is bad advice IMO.
  20. Just wear gloves, use a metal blade, and a pushing bar of some sort. I also recommend fitting the channel over a piece of wood when doing this, really helps keep the aluminum stable for a safe/straight cut.
