I have never had any TB issues across the two forth gens and one sixth Gen I own. In fact only issue I have ever had with a TB is with my Infiniti and It got replaced when I sent it to Stillen for the Supercharger swap over. As Silverton said these are pretty set from the factory unless you had a replacement from a junk yard. However you do you and if a fix works for you go with it.

Weird chirping noise in blower motor hvac
MoleMan replied to Rod702's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Did you change with an OEM filter? Not a Fram or something bought online? Fram should be Ok but any Amazon or eBay special won't seat correctly. Easy way to tell of the motor is going out it to put the fan on lift the hood and see what's going on when the car is parked. If you only have the issue when the car is moving then something may just be stuck in the ductwork. If it's doing it when the car is parked but you can hear the issue then you go a different route. Or you could just bring it to a mechanic and let them check it out. However the outcome will be replace the bad motor. @Silverton how hard is it to access the fan motor for the HVAC in the sixth Gen? Is this something someone can do easily themselves on a driveway? -

This happens on several of my cars. Seems to only happen on cold startup in temps less then twenty degrees. Just like the OP it is only at low speed higher speeds everything is normal. If you do not live in a cold weather area you could try changing your cabin filter and see if that helps. -

Silverton, I do like the CVT in my 3.6 just fine. It's a lot better then most CVTs in my opinion. In this case however modding a CVT car could be an issue. You are a respected mechanic(do not know if it's at Subaru) and I take whatever you say to heart. But the off the line performance on a 7th Gen turbo car would never match the performance of say a 4th or 5th get GT off the line. That's what I dislike about CVTs. I feel the same issue in my 3.6. you put your foot down and the car literally says hold on I need to get out of bed. As far as Intake. I have several modded cars with intakes. The G37 has the stillen gen 3 intake which are a pain to install as they are situated in front of the radiator. I have found that the intake temps on a cold to mild morning on the highway will run cooler(plus or minus 50 degrees) and in the summer run more hotter as long as the filters are clean. I agree with you as I can't really take a crap on something that can't be changed like Subarus persistence to use CVTs. They are not the only ones. My Model S has a CVT as well. As far a performance yes I like Turbo cars just fine just has to be the right one. I seems to have moved into NA V8s to get the power thrill besides my motorcycles. My Lexus GSF has an eight speed. However on my wife's Scat Pack she wanted specifically with a manual. She also drives a GS 350 as a daily. Just saying whatever car someone wants a different tune they should really go to a tuner and dyno the car. We had an issue a few years back in the local community of folks getting bad tunes and creating engines to be popped. This guy was tuning the cars to run 30 psi of boost on a stock turbo. Not saying the car won't be fun. But does a tuner have the ability to reprogram the CVT? That's what I would like to see. I am in rentals at least three days a week. And most of the time it's some econobox, a minivan, or some SUV like a Denali. So when I get back in the daily driver(normally my 8th Gen Civic or 3.0R) I just wanna get home as I have a 180 mile drive back from the nearest major airport I have a long thinking time about what I wanna do for a next mod etc.. With Subaru it just seems besides the WRX having a manual option CVTs are in everything. That being said Toyota still has alot of eight speed and six speed non CVT options between the Lexus and Toyota brands. Just curious why they have not switched yet. -

MoleMan replied to subiesheila's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
OP, Please don't take this the wrong way. Yeah the Access port will wake up the car a bit. Now you are still running a stock turbo. Guessing your tune pumped up the PSI A bit. That's all fine until something happens. You can throw every mod at the car but will still have one issue. It still has a CVT trans. That in itself will negate any power gains which are minimal. Not knocking the mods just saying it like it is. Still a nice car. But that darn CVT is the issue. Your temps will always run cooler in the morning then in the middle of the day. That's from my experience. The hotter it gets the higher your temps. As far as a tune I always say go with the shop locally. They can put it on a dyno to get the best numbers. -
I have had cars with Fumotos I have installed. I just went back to regular drain plugs on all of them. Reason is because they all had spin off filters on the bottom. I figured since I was just down doing the change anyway and extra ten mins to get a proper drain would be easier. That being said if you have the filter on top the Fumotos makes perfect sense and I would have one in that case. Another issue I noticed is that the Fumotos do not drain as much old oil out of the pan as I would like. But that's just me.

JDM Legacy BM9 Front clip on USDM '13 Outback
MoleMan replied to SAABaruu's topic in Fifth Generation Legacy (2010 - 2014 )
Op, If you have installed please post a pic. I would love to see this. You may need to massage the bumper to fit the headlights etc.. however IDK if the cats made for the Japanese market come out of SIA in Indiana or a plant in Japan. The fitment should be very close. -
Seems normal to me. All my cars take a few mins to go to idle. And that is across several brands. Only one that has a special procedure would be the Diesel in the winter and I let the glow plugs heat up before I start the engine. I do have a forth gen EJ25 and EZ30 AMD BOTH DO THIS. My Lexus V8 just sounds so good at startup I don't want it to idle down lol.

Gonna ask the boards opinion. One of the local Subie dealers has a 22 XT Limited with 29k going for 26k. It's an off lease with no accidents. Issue is the color(ice silver) which I hate. Just in the fence about trading my 3.6 for it. On the other side they have a new Solterra Touring they will let me have for 46k and the rebate. Just asking advice. Really am trying to hold off as I just bought another Lexus but once again the dealer offered me 18k for the Leggy.

Starlink update screwed up radio
MoleMan replied to Neil33's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Gonna chime in again on this. Pulling the fuse does nothing to prevent the battery from going dead in a week or so. I am running an Odyssey 24 so it's not weak at all. Honestly the car sits unlocked outside. Alarm is not armed. Now that being said it very could be the battery. As I have driven this car one thousand miles in four years it rarely gets driven. I just find it odd that a newer Subie the battery goes dead fast and my 3/4 ton pickup(98 Dodge Diesel) has no issues starting up after months of non use. Granted I am not new to Subaru and both my 4th gens had battery issues(both were bought new) about four years in I simply replaced the battery s to a larger one and moved on. I really think the issue is car has to many electronics and a power draw is somewhere. I don't have the time to chase it down with my work schedule(yeah for me I get a rental every week). So I will just put it on a maintainer going forward. With the tech issue alot of new cars have a lot of tech even in base level form. I guess it could be worse. I had a rental Town & Country minivan a few weeks back when I went up to Portland. I could not even turn the lane assist off no button or control. Not my first choice but when it's the only car left and you need to be at a meeting what to do lol.. -
Dude, Unless it's cheap just pass on it. As you said you will be borrowing money to buy this. What happens when/if the turbo fails or other work needs to be done? If it has a CEL light on and you live in an emissions state that will cost ya. And that's not including the insurance costs which will not be the cheapest thanks to the wreck a WRX crowd. Then you are throwing in a rebuilt title and that's something I personally would not touch. You need a car for six months. I would be looking at something cheap and needs little maintenance. I myself drive a 8th gen Civic as a daily. Anyway it's your money. Good luck to you.

Starlink update screwed up radio
MoleMan replied to Neil33's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
2018 3.6R Limited. It did have the head unit replaced in 2020 due to the recall issue. So maybe this has something to do with it. Just started it up again after sitting all week. All the radio speakers work but no mic or Bluetooth. Build date on the car is 10/18. For me it wouldn't bug me even if the front speakers were not working. Honestly Maybe drive the car twenty miles a month if that. But agreed all signs point to losing the front speakers. Maybe something changed when some headunits were replaced vs not replaced. -
Subaru Battery Drain due to shutdown of 3G net
MoleMan replied to ehsnils's topic in Subaru News & Rumors
Gonna retract my above post. Pull fuse #9 which is the DCM fuse. You will lose Bluetooth and the Microphone. Everything else works. If you can live without the above then problem solved. -
Clunking sound that drives me nuts

If you are modded check what Max Capacity said above. Seems like a control arm to me. Possibly an end link. Only way to tell is to put it on a rack. -
Replacing my CD unit with one with NAV
MoleMan replied to fursaan's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
You are better off with an aftermarket setup. If the stock DCM has not been replaced you will have a dead battery once a week. It's from the 3G shutdown. The DCM will attempt phone home when the car is off every two mins. -
Starlink update screwed up radio
MoleMan replied to Neil33's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Gonna chime in on this. I never got my letter from Subie. So I was left on the hook for a $1,000 replacement bill to change the DCM. I rarely drive the 3.6 so I opted not to do the replacement. What I did took thirty seconds and works like a charm. Just go to the under the hood fuse box. Pull fuse #9 refered to as "DCM" power drain issue solved. However you will lose the microphone and Bluetooth. You will not lose the front speakers like folks in the Outback forum are saying. This could be due to I think the Outback has more speakers then the Leggy and is most likely the issue. I can live without Bluetooth and the Microphone since where I live and commute to does not have any cell service anyway for 75 percent of the drive. No other functions of the car are impacted at all. Other option is you can create a jumper from fuse #9 to fuse #18 or fuse #19 and still have everything work. Many videos on this if you search. I also have several Toyotas and Lexus vechicles and it is the same wiring however the battery does not die. Maybe Lexus engineers did not want the burdon of having the brand name get tarnished. Funny thing is my daily is an 18 year old Civic and has needed nothing but basic maintenance. -
Legacy to be discontinued after 2025 model year
MoleMan replied to longmuirj's topic in Subaru News & Rumors
You made me take the G out this morning. Keep in mind I have the Stillen Supercharger kit on this car with some various other mods. That car was at Stillen in California for that for about a month. But it was a 9k conversion when I did it. I have to admit that car gets up and goes pretty well. Have really not driven it in a year besides a mile to the gas station. To me just something about Turbo cars and Supercharged cars that you want sometimes and so sometimes you want the NA Muscle. I have done the M3 thing and honestly the V8 one I had was the only one I liked. As far as the trans I never had an issue with it just stock it just needs to wake up and then the car would be provide a smoother delivery. I despise CVTs honestly. The Subaru and Nissan CVTs are better then most. But I just don't like the slowness when I need to go from a stop. On the highway no issues what soever. IDK I'm just getting old and want either large boat cars or huge engine power cars that are more showcase then anything else. -

MoleMan replied to longmuirj's topic in Subaru News & Rumors
A JB4 is not a tune at all as you stated. But it's a easy way to get more boost. As far as the G37 and the Q50 the Trans is a pile of shit but at least it's a 6 speed and not a CVT so I will give you that. I don't take anything else I to factor. Honestly I don't care about that stuff. I have heated steering wheels in two of my cars and never turned them on once. Nissans fit and finish is let's say on par with Subarus no better no worse. Both my Lexus's have a lot better fit and finish then the Infiniti. The Q50 cutting edge? Absolutely not. The 3.6R cutting edge? Nope. Both are let's face it dated but that's ok. Even my Wife's GS350 is more cutting edge then either car and it's a 2014. You can't compare the G37 or Q50 to the Legacy regardless of what it has under the hood. As you said it's a good daily driver but it's a boat. My Lexus is making close to 500 HP stock(5.0 V8) and it's butter smooth. It's heavy so I dont bother to try to race anyone. Frankly I don't even get Involved in that anymore. Honestly I could have gotten a used GTR for the same price as my RCF but Nissan just left a bad taste. I will admit I never disliked the VR30 in your car. Actually liked the way it was set up as far as boost and when it came on. But once again maybe my experience was not as good as yours. My 3.6 is just that. It's a highway cruiser. It's not a power car or a daily for me. Maybe a snow car but I have two fourth gens I prefer for that. But getting older I tend to now gravitate towards huge boats with big engines that are butt couches with a steering wheel! Just started another custom project with my wife. Let's just say the 572 block has been ordered. The supercharger is being decided and once done that particular vehicle with have right under 900 HP. Don't ask about that cost lol. But once again dude you do you and have fun doing it! -
How to troubleshoot all these errors?
MoleMan replied to 2charlie's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
Gonna chime in here. This would happen to me when I had a dead battery. Is your battery good? I get the battery light is not on Is the car a rebuilt title at all? No worries if it is but that could be a big help. Any accidents? In my area I see a lot of rebuilt cars for sale. I copy the vin and look at auction pictures. Some of these look like they were hit by cruise missiles. Some are flood cars. But that's why the ask on the question. -

MoleMan replied to longmuirj's topic in Subaru News & Rumors
No offense. But the Q50 and G37s are piles of shit. How do I know I still have my G37 that Everytime it gets wet it goes haywire. And the Q50 is not any better. And no it's not the sunroof drains that are causing the issue. The Q50 is slightly better but still lags tech compared to the competition. I had the Redsport 400 model. Had a JB4 on it and it was north of 450 HP. Nissans AWD drive system is a complete joke compared to Subaru or Audi or even Toyota. As I said cars are cars just anything Nissan to me is a pile of shit and considering I own one still says something. Do yourself a favor and put the Q on ramps and look at how much rust is on the frame and the crossmembers. However if I was forced to pick a model Nissan besides the GTR or Z. It would be either a M56 With the 5.6 or the Q70 with the 5.6 V8. As much as it pains me to say this I still look weekly for those cars. And yeah my G is a G37 xS. Just keep in mind the trans in the G and the trans in the Q50 are the same. That's why the stock power and won't do anything until the mid fours. To bad Nissan is killing off Infiniti slowly. My huge decision was that I can take issues in any car. But the service for Infiniti from the dealers is really bad. They either don't care or will string you along until the warranty is up. But keep the Q. It's still fast. Honestly if I had the choice to buy a 4th or 5th Gen GT or a Q50 with NO warranty I would choose the Subaru hands down just because of superior AWD. -
Legacy XT Throttle Response and Pedal Commander
MoleMan replied to mcmorariu's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
Cusp yes. Accessport and it will be final. Issue is with Mods is a soon as you do them you are hooked and want more I guess that's why I have a 480 HP Lexus sitting in the garage because I wanted more power and modding some STI while fun was not worth the money. -
I can source it alot cheaper then that. Napa is always expensive on oil. I just most of the time go to Wally World and grab Mobil 1. I just do the work myself. I enjoy it and I know what's going into the car.

Thank you! That's what I was looking for a year ago.

Did you stick with stock size tires? Just looks a little wider. Looks great just a bit wider. The Fourth Gens and seventh gens in my opinion look way better with wider tires.
