Folks running the Whiteline 20mm rear swaybar?
MoleMan replied to DrD123's topic in Seventh Generation Legacy (2020 - )
Agreed. Seems they got a lot of things right with the 4th Gens they got everything wrong with the newer gens. -
Don't get an Amazon special dude. Rock Auto is ok. Fram should fit just fine but I would buy the WIX over the Fram. Fifty miles is not that bad. My nearest dealer is 250 miles away. I buy parts off eBay from the dealers and shipping is free. I bet some Amazon sellers are dealers as well.

Rust in door pillars on 2018 3.6R -BAD
MoleMan replied to drukkosz's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
At least it's fixed. Since you bought new I remember an extended warranty being put in place for corrosion on body parts for ten years from date of sale for folks who's car came from the Northeast. But knowing the manufacturer they will always blame the owner anyway lol. -
My M3 has been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned. Some earlier six cylinder cars had Vanos issues but seems like that went away for me when I stepped up to the V8 and a Manual Trans. The bottom line is you seem to want fast, sporty, guessing Turbo, and fun. A WRX will always be just that. A 5Th Gen GT is just that. To many people in my area buying WRXs and racing everyone trying to be big and bad until they get their asses handed to them. My area is popular for fourth and fifth gen GTs see more forth Gens however as people don't want to give up the fifth Gens. Daily with power and limited issues. You can beat the shit out of a K20 Civic SI all day and it will do nothing but smile back. I mean yeah you can go get some STI drop a few grand into it and have 400 HP. Until the engine pops and then you will have to make a decision. Now here is the major question. What is the budget you want to be in?

Sorry for the late response. Have been in Houston for a week for work. In the case of yours put the rear whiteline on. Now as far as the Endlinks. I am guessing they are adjustable? In your case it's a 50/50 decision. The stock links are fairly cheap if you needed to replace. I have never heard of anyone breaking a OEM link with an aftermarket sway setup unless they are really extreme and are doing some sort of track racing. So you will prob be fine. I say go for it. -
So let me get this straight. You don't really like your 22. But you want to trade for the exact same car but there years newer? You sound like me to a degree. Seems you may enjoy a WRX better? Or if not a Subie you have a ton of options. You can't really have fun with new cars anymore due to the nanny devices. Wife has a manual S4 and it drives like it should drive. If you want fun try a E92 M3. Hard to find. I bought my E92 in the color combo I wanted and took four years to find it hiding in Iowa. I would look to older cars if ya want to have fun.

Here's what I think. Get both a Whiteline front AND rear Sway upgrade. So buy Whiteline Endlinks. The stock ones should be ok but in the end the Whiteline will perform better. Honestly I know guys that run no sway bar. It's common in the off road community. But get the set. I promise you your handling will increase 100 percent of not more. You could also add a front strut tower brace and it will even be better. For reference. I am running a Cusco front Strut bar as well as Whiteline front and rear sways and Endlinks on my 4TH Gen 3.0. The outback front should work fyi. On mine I had to get the outback option as well. @Sliverton. I do not want to be talking out of my ass here. But will a 7TH Gen Outback front sway interchange with a Leggy? I know of the 4th Gens they did. -

OP, I really have not seen or heard of this being a "common" issue on the sixth gens. I leave my 3.6 out in the snow and the elements and it's exposed to Negative degree weather in the winter. No rust issues at all. It sometimes has inches of snow on it for days. Question is did you get the car used? If so maybe it was in an accident that affected that area and it was a crap repair. But I feel for you. Good luck. -
Maybe a better car for you is a 8th gen K20 Honda Civic Si. You can beat those to hell and not have any issues. Subarus need attention like any other car. Not as bad as a German car and not as maintenance free as a Honda you can beat on. As another member said probably a couple grand in fixes for your issue unless you can get a new engine put in for cheaper. The code tells the story. You did not mention if you got the car used or had it from new.

Talk me out of getting rid of my 3.6
MoleMan replied to MoleMan's topic in Sixth Generation Legacy (2015 -2019 )
The updates have all been done. According to the selling dealer and two additional Subaru dealers in Salt Lake. I even called two dealers in Denver and they both said the same thing. To me the car drives like any other CVT powered vehicle I have been in. The old Maxima I had with the CVT was the same way on City streets. On the highway no issues and the car drives the way a car should drive with this much power. I am really not comparing this car to a high power vehicle. This car is not that and will never be that. If I was to compare it to my wifes V8 S4 the 3.6 is almost a joke in every category except for the AWD. But again it's not designed to compare to an S4 at all. As mentioned the car has not been driven much. So the computer probably has not learned driving habits. My daughter has been commuting to Jackson daily so maybe I will take a drive on Sat and see if anything has changed. She is not exactly a slow poke when driving. All in all as mentioned the car is a good car. It's just been sitting for four years without much use. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions. -
If it helps. My G37 has a Stillen exhaust. Very Mild and honestly just right. Running Berk High Flow cats that have a little drone but nothing to complain over. My RCF had an invidia exhaust when I bought it. It was to mild for me. Switched to a Borla and made the V8 sound like a V8. It's a nice deep V8 sound. Not overly loud. Borla is pricy but I think sound the best. I do not like MagnaFlow personally. They would just Meah. SPT is like finding a needle in a haystack right now. Your car is already rare enough. The main issue is you said it's a daily. So maybe look at the Borla and the sound and see if you can stand it for the duration of your drive.

Passenger dash rattle over bumps
MoleMan replied to rriilleeyy's topic in Fourth Generation Legacy (2005 - 2009)
Not to be an ass. But do you have any cans etc I. The cupholders or anything in the storage area where the armrest is? I have huge issues with rattling sounds and have could when I have a can of monster in that area it rattles. Just a thought. I have two 4th gens and do t have a dashboard rattle at all. -

I once drove in a modded WRX where the guy was running 30 pounds of boost. That was fun. Not as fun as a buddy that had a Monster Miata. Now that car was insane and scary all at the same time. But agreed. The 3.6 is not a let down at all. But I will say it is buttery smooth. I think the 3.6 is nicer driving then my GS350 honestly. And it's dead quiet. -

I have that happen on the highway. The car drives like a car should. It's just feels like another econobox on the street. Nearest dealer is over 200 miles away. I have called them since I got it from them. According to the service manager all updates have been completed. It's a 256 HP car so I really do not expect any woomph to it honestly. I gave the car to my kid to drive for the next few months. I'll take it back once her Audis clutch is replaced. The car is 95 percent driven on the highway at 80-90 MPH when I drive it for two to three hundred miles at a time. So maybe the issue is the ECU never has learned City driving. It's a good car overall. I would rate it a step down from my EZ30 but the 6th gen is just so much more luxury. Thank you for you thoughts. -

On the highway it's fine and I don't feel like it has a CVT and it responds excellent. On City streets compared to a normal trans the car feels as it's asleep and then suddenly wakes up. Its more evident in the summer when temps are above 90 That's just a CVT and I feel the same issues in rentals I am in regardless of manufacturer. Where I live is much colder then Vermont and much higher in elevation(I am at 7800 ft). However that has no bearing on things. Nothing to do with the battery at all. Think it's my driving style. It could just be the way I am driving. I drive like I am driving Ms Daisy half the time so I am being very ginger on the pedal. Maybe I should put a bit more foot in it and see what happens. It could just be the computer and my driving style. -

That's funny you said that. So many six cylinder cars that should have a manual did not. Take the G37 for an example. However Acura did make a TL with a six speed. Really rare. Another one is the Honda Accord V6 Coupe/Sedan with a six speed. Again very rare. I do think the WRX would have still outsold a manual 3.6. I asked a GM of a dealer one day why they did not make a manual. He told me it's because 1 out of 100 buyers would want one. He's right. Take my Lexus that car would be perfect with a six speed manual. Close to 500 HP and N/A V8. Sadly of I want a manual I would have to get a Scat Pack Challenger which are a dime a dozen in my area. -
Looking to get an NA manual 4th gen (EU)
MoleMan replied to ppk326's topic in Pre-purchase Questions
If you are starting to ask the dreaded is this or that going to have an issue on a 20 year old car then the car is not for you. I look at this like my 1993 500 SL Mercedes. Look at it wrong and it will have every issue. Now onto th question. The 2.0 is grossly underpowered. And the N/A 2.5 is the same(Not biased as I own one myself). I loved in Germany for four years. Had a BMW M3 which was just a nightmare as far as issues. The Defender I got after it was boring but never had an issue. Honestly for the money I would be looking for something more common to your area. Last time I was in Amsterdam I saw a lot of Audis. It's besides the point. But if the car is hard to find then think about replacement parts. Maybe you should be looking at WRXs instead which are a bit more common. -

Nada. Just looked at my 2006 Key and my 2008 key. The one you have looks different. Maybe it will work. Just take it to a locksmiths that can program it. -

I will agree. The WRX did however. And US Spec EZ30s did not come with a manual. Would have been perfect if they did. My 3.0 has Cusco front and rear sways, a Cusco Strut bract, and Whiteline Endlinks. I always drive it in Sport Sharp. But it's kinda slow compared to other cars now these days. And I am always on winding mountain roads. -

The FJ is a beast. Bombproof engine. As far as the 3.6s for sale they seem to come in waves. We generally have five or so Leggys for sale with the 3.6 on my area. More Outbacks then Leggys for sale though. All the 3.6s in my area are generally off lease one owner. Mine was as well. FJs are harder to find then a 3.6 in my area. Tacomas sell as soon as they hit the lot. Funny thing about the FJ it it really did not sell well. I cam across a owner last year while grabbing a oil filter for the Lexus at the Toyota dealer. He had 44k on the truck. I have also seen over 250k on an FJ. But you made a good decision. Both vehicles are great. -

I watched one day at a Toyota dealership when a SA tried to sell a couple in their 80s a new front sway bar. They were claiming it was broken in several places. Steel bar broken in a few places lol hard part to break. I asked the couple if they were in an accident or ran over something big enough to damage the underside. They said no. I told them to question the SA when he came back. They did and told them what I said. He came over to me and told me I should not be giving advice to his clients. I told him that he was trying to rip an older couple off to make a commission. Also told him politely to GTF away from me. And I said it loud. Needless to say this Toyota Dealer no longer employed him when I returned to grab an oil filter. But I got ya. I have two neighbors that are pro Diesel Mechanics on each side. However I also live in the middle of nowhere so if I need help they are always available. -

I also found in another car I have that a pedal commander also wakes the car up. It's not a true performance upgrade. The car seems honestly to perform best if it's driven. Especially on the highway with the radar cruise on. It seems to learn better. What I mean by that is say I am at 80-85(80 is legal speed limit in my state on highways) and I have a semi get in front of me. As everyone knows eyesight will auto brake. I have the distance set at max. Then as soon as the semi gets out of the way they car honestly will speed up like a rocket from say 65 back to 80 without hesitation. I can feel the power and always think to myself this is how this car should drive. All in all I do like the car. I still figure a battery a year is still better then what I had to deal with when I had a BMW.
