2010 cold air intake

Recommended Posts

Speed Density... It puts down good numbers but requires a wide band O2 with A/F gauge to be constantly watched and can be dangerous if you aren't careful and don't know much about tuning. Of course a wide band O2 and A/F gauge is a good idea for any type of tune.

SD tune shouldn't require a WBO2 gauge...

I mean, if you're tuning it yourself I guess. But if you go to a pro tuner they're going to have their own WBO2 setup that they'd use for tuning. Not sure if e-tuning is reccomended for SD tunes or not...

Take this under strong consideration. This is coming from the guy who boasts the fastest 5th gen quarter mile time to date......on the stock VF54!

Oh yeah I know his car is the fastest vf54 5th gen, but not so sure SixStar knows since this was his first post unless it's just a new username. And was hoping to lead him to see that a CAI/modded intake is useless unless he's highly modded elsewhere like you two.

Well I'm sure I'll never go SD myself or even pro-tune since my car is over 100k and is a DD. Gotta remember this is my first turbo subie too, so I've got a lot to still learn myself and there's just not been enough time pass for me to read every build thread...Yet.... I'm way more familiar with V-Tech and carbs. So that's why I figured a WB02 or at least regular A/F monitoring was a good thing no matter what kind tune. If I decide to go for moar I'll leave it in the hands of the pros on this one since we kind of have no choice without risking more then gaining going open source self tune. It was easy to find a B18 to replace one if it went. Not so much so with the 5th gen.

It's not terribly hard to find a new engine, it's not terribly cheap either. As far as the wbo2 I think the stock sensors are more than adequate to record fueling issues in a data log as far as an end user would be concerned.

Yes sorry it is my first post, never even knew about this till my current neighbor (fellow Subaru owner) told me about it. But mainly I am just wanting to go stage 2 because I have 48k warranty so obviously I only want to run stock components for the most part but also get as much power as possible. A close friend stated I needed to get TBE, Cobb AP and cold air in order to run the stage 2 map. I'm hoping for close to ~300whp. Anyone have a closer idea on this? Or better cheaper way to get more hp with warranty restriction

Your friend is wrong/misinformed, you don't need an intake to run stage 2, just the turboback and a tune. And eventually a new clutch. Stage 2 pushes the torque limits of the stock clutch pretty quick in a 5th gen.

Based on a lot of information sprinkled through these forums, the 5th gen LGT won't really need the intake at stage 2. You also don't technically need a full turbo-back either, just the downpipe. In fact, a not-insignificant number of people see boost creep at stage 2 with a full turbo-back, while plenty of others are just fine. If you get creep, the simplest solution seems to retain to the OEM midpipe to combat boost creep, but there are other options available.

Making more power than the manufacturer intended, by it's very definition, will invalidate any related portions of your warranty. Going stage 2 will most likely invalidate just about anything that is powertrain related, as long as the dealership can reasonably connect whatever issue you're having with your modifications.

I understand the technicality of dealership warranty, but overall, does anyone have a good idea of what kind of power my car would be capable of on a stage 2 (hp & ft/lb tq)? Car is stock other than CBE currently, will get DP to complete TBE, K&N replacement intake filter, and will also get Cobb stage 2 tune. Any info would be great, thank you in advance

I have full warranty ,till 100k or till 2022 I plan on goin stage 2

But fortunately I have the warranty thru alstate thru the dealer but I don't have alstate insurance , and a friend owns a shop that can do the warranty work if needed I just have to put back to stock,

Also have a friend with2011 with tbe, ebcs, and tmic pushing 295/333tq on slipping clutch just for reference

Intake won't add any power and will prevent you from using the Cobb stage 2 tune as it requires a stock intake. As far as the power gains go, Cobb provides the answer right in the map notes.

Typical Stage1 and Stage2 vs. Stock Power:

Stage1 93 - +14% HP / +30% TQ

Stage2 93 - +20% HP / +31% TQ

Just a quick side note on the intake just so he knows, the cobb sf intake for 08-14 wrx/sti will fit ontop of our stock piping and the most important thing for people that are not SD is that the maf housing is the same. And one of my friends actually just went and got a cobb intake plus box (Im waiting to pick up my intake/box till this weekend or next) and he send me pics of it all installed. He said that 2/3 mounting screws fit, thats all you really need anyways to keep it in place and that all he had to do was make a bigger cover for it. Which is good news considering I was going to make my own and this would hopefully cut down alot on fab time. I'm going to check it out and take some pics this weekend

Got it, no intake needed. Last couple questions, as I am only CBE currently (Invidia n1) and am upgrading soon to TBE w invidia DP catted to be safe, how much louder is it than just CBE? As well is it a deeper sound also or just louder in general? Also, what kind of clutch would you recommend for the stage 2 and TBE? I want something strong that will last and can handle the power as a daily driver, with zero chatter, as well as not super stiff or all or noneish. Car currently has 38k, and driver before me was an older lady from what I found out so clutch wear could vary

I would leave the stocker alone until you need to deal with it and then go with the southbend stage 2. That seems to be a good clutch with little if any negative feedback. And don't forget the tsk 3 kit for the transmission snout when you do the clutch.

just a quick update, I visited my buddy over the weekend to check out the intake set up, but he had the whole front end back together already so it was hard to see mounting points, etc. He did use the whole stock intake system however and the box did fit. He made an steel cover for the top, covered the side hole where the intake would usually lay with a 08-14 wrx/sti and sounded great. I picked up my intake + box this weekend and the plan is to get the silicone hoses for the 15+wrx intake and mount them up to the leggy with the cobb sf intake/box up top. The plastic intake hoses to the turbo inlet have the exact same part number as the legacy gt so it should work. Friends and I will probably make a video on it when the time comes to explain/show it better

Another update, so the 15 wrx silicone intake hoses came in, did a quick test fit and they work! So they will be paired up with the Cobb sf intake and box soon! I'll be either taking pics or video of the install or both http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160330/6cc46c956f9c166ef177d11bbcdd4235.jpg

Is that really how that goes in there? it doesn't use the funnel?

I kind of mocked it up yesterday real quick, I used both the new Mishi hoses, have to re use the stock plastic elbow piece (don't know what it's called..) And the maf housing and filter would attach to the end of the 90degree bend. I wouldn't be using the short silicone piece that comes with the Cobb SF intake from what I quickly mocked up. I also haven't mocked up the box and stuff yet. I have a tuning date on the 15th so if I can't get the box done for then I'll just use it as is and mount the box soon after.

Funnel meaning the plastic piece that acts as a duct into where the box would go? I would be re using that just haven't mocked that up yet.. I'll get some pics after work and show ya how I have it sitting currently

So finished getting it on today, the intake is all tightened in and maf is reconnected. Also got the box to fit, definitely needed to trim a good amount in the front with a dremel to have the duct fit in and sit flat.(Since its off a wrx I'll also have to make a plate to cover the hole there And make a base plate too, but right now I just need to get the car running And done) And the top is a rough plexiglass cover just for now, plan on cleaning it up and redoing the cover Some time before WBM so hopefully it works out :L **Another edit: also couldn't get the filter support to mount though ;l so probably Gunna just get some wire and tie it to something or maybe zip tie it lmao http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/11eb972348ab78b72849afb222df9edb.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/7acc0457276934b3aa3eebfa6a78161c.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/1408b735abd67be6264e3589facb928d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/d757f74bdf53fc596e903d4465f46e31.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/6a1e51f7e437647bc0fe628be4f1c5ca.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/c81579be3ef0e8de44a1ffed2db9db31.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/e7110b35ed14bc5fe774bd6854014a1d.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/0251ae81ae99a32fb7d832a76ff39caa.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/729c5fceadf8c9b9fe1134515fa0b1d5.jpghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160403/7c15cab642d546c47c534b144cf447f0.jpg
