18x8 Suggestions?

I agree to an extent. I don't feel they appear crowded (they modify the curve of the spoke depending on size) but totally agree that the lip makes them seem smaller just like the RPF1 design.

I went 17 for pothole protection (more sidewall), and really liked that they weigh less than 13.5lbs. I flip/flop on selling them and going with 18x8.5s. Trying to convince myself not to right now, and focus on Function > Form. If I can resist the look of bigger wheels a bit longer until this isn't my DD then I'll be going with 18s or 19s during the summer. :D

I have quotes on 19x8 Ultraleggeras, 18x8.5 Weds TC105Ns, and 18x8 BBS RE875s sitting in my inbox just taunting me as well as the deal joeblow has going on his 1 of 2 Rays 57 Ultimate 18x8.5 wheels in our fitment. Focus... Focus! Stage 3 needs to stay my priority.

18x8.5 +47 (semi-concave) Work Emotion Kiwami's.....so yumm

I actually looked at work emotions--really like the look--but the weight I found was 23lbs / wheel. Is that right?

The weight / inertia thing also seems to make difference at stg3 power levels ;)

I went from stock to some 7kg 17x7.5 Enkeis at stg1 and it seemed to make the car noticeably quicker. Went to 9.5kg 18x8s at 320whp and can't really tell the difference. Really like the steering response and feedback from the shorter, stiffer sidewalls however.

BMB - screw the 18s... get these :D

Mmm authentic BBS LMs in 19x8.5 +25. He managed to stuff them under his LGT wagon and is in VA.

You know what I find REALLY funny? Fitment aside (mainly from the offset), I could actually run those with 245/40s and STILL have a larger sidewall than stock LGTs  (and be within 0.1% of stock OBXT rolling diameter)

I like the Weds SA60M in 18x8 - not a huge fan of the two-tone, but the black with machined grey sides looks pretty good. I think Ravspec had a sale thread on them for Black Friday, but the prices were still good as of February.

I am bouncing between those and a set of their new SA15R which are kinda like the newer WRX rims but lighter. There are no 8.0" though - they come in 8.5", so slightly OT. I am still afraid of rubbing as I don't want to roll my fenders, but they would be fine for the outback fenders. They seem to be about the same price as the OZ Ultraleggera.

Also in 8.5 I like the Forgestar F14, but again might be slightly OT

My favourites in 18x8.0 are the Yokohama AVS Model T5, in dark silver metallic. However, I have not even asked what the price is to get them in North America.

Wish Forgestar's website included bolt pattern and weight for each wheel.

I wish vendors could be persuaded to publish the mass moment of inertia for ANY wheel!

I wouldn't say I'm confused, I just don't know what I want and never once looked at 18" wheels so I threw this out there as a general discussion.

I'd like a lightweight, strong wheel with good quality. Price is a concern of course, and the longer I wait to buy a set of wheels the more cash I'll have available (right now I'm thinking less that $1500 as a general idea--would like to find something nice / used for under $1000).

Realistically I'm probably looking at running with what I've got through this summer, buying winter tires for the winter season as my current all seasons will likely be nearing the end by then, and purchasing a good summer setup for next warm season. I think I mentioned that somewhere earlier. That gives me a year to search for the right wheel / the right deal. I have no issue buying used and would actually prefer that, so giving myself the time to do so should save me some $$$.

I'm not looking to make a snap decision or NEEDING to pick up wheels right now, if that's what you're thinking. Just wanted to have a discussion about options that are out there with a focus on what brands are generally providing high quality options and what's out there that I haven't seen before--which is most things since I haven't focused too much on wheels.

3 pages in, I'm a bit confused at what you're looking for. maybe you are too?

Looks

weight

color

quality

price

all five?

Do you even know who the OP is? Took him like a year to pick a goddamn downpipe. Then he sold it and bought another one.

I'm a perpetual deal searcher. When I NEED something I buy it, when I have the luxury of taking my time I enjoy the process of doing tons of research and deciding what I want--it's not something that stresses me out and I like looking through all the options.

Ah, ok. Hmm...that's an enlightened approach. I've bought every set of wheels in a crunch buying the very best option at the time. I'd say better planning would saved a lot of cash, however, when sitting flat in the pits there's not a lot of strategic thinking going on.

When looking for my last set of wheels, I looked all over trying to find a site that had pictures & stats of wheels. Hooked up to an ordering engine, it might make a few bucks. Then again, as I found with Enkei, if you have cash (willing to buy 40 wheels) they will make you nearly anything you want. So it kind of throw a wrench in the whole deal.
