mangled a spark plug

I recall reading the following to avoid overheating assuming all parts are genuine and properly installed:

Begin reading from "My next question is.."

"In modern word processing applications, pressing the return key or enter key ends a paragraph and starts a new one. Spacing between the paragraphs can be defined through paragraph styles.

Before computers, when typewriters were used, the “Enter” key was kept comparatively large. This is due to the frequency of usage (which also includes the space bar), and therefore, is kept large to reduce the likelihood of finger slips"

Now that we've got that covered.

The temp needle shouldn't be moving higher than halfway, regardless of power level. If the thermostat is the appropriate part, the coolant flowing through it should be enough to cool the engine.

My next question is, how did you fill the system? what I do is fill the radiator first, put the cap on, then fill the turbo res, leave cap off, run engine, fill as necessary. jacking the pass side of the car up while doing so can fill it a bit more.

Do your electric fans work properly? do they come on at all, like if you turned the a/c on?

Even under the heaviest of loads and romp sesh, like on a dyno, the gauge shouldn't move, yes even on a modified car. There are aftermarket radiators available from mishimoto and koyorad but you'd need an external oil cooler with thermostat for the ATF fliud.

and

What he said.

Make sure you don't have a air bubble in the cooling system.

When I put the new short block in. I left the cap off the turbo tank and the right front corner jacked up for a few hours while I went and got more coolant.

I used some left over Peak and Prestone from when I replaced the timing belt years ago and topped it off with some new Peak Global pre-mix. The gage never goes above 1/2.

You can see the air bubble in the coolant if you lok in the tank.

I checked the tank over the weekend after the car sat overnight and it was just below the neck.

Could be it, i simply filled the radiator till it couldn't take any more then put the cap back on. Never even checked the turbo reservoir either. So I'll leave the caps off and squeeze the upper pipe and see what comes of it. Any other tips on properly filling the coolant for the first time as I've never had to do it before.

The water pump is a brand new one that came with my gates timing belt kit, kind of no brainer installing it and i followed the vacation pics too. The pump is mechanical, as long as the blades move it should work no?

LOL

yeah, fill the radiator, cap it, fill the turbo res, leave cap off, run engine and add to turbo res since it the tank will need a lot more once the engine burps itself. squeeze hoses as engine runs, once the turbo res coolant starts to spill over, cap it. done.

LOL Front to back left and right change i like to use passenger/driver. Yea turbo Res is on the passenger side (duh)

I'm petrified i did some kind of damage. I didn't let it get into the red and would shut down and cool off for a minute before going again when it climbed up there. Only really went no more than 3 miles to the station around the corner and back. But heat is heat...oy Vey :(

I did that too. I was fine. YMMV, but you should be okay.

buy this... hard to believe you did all this work to the car and you dont know how to bleed the coolant system.. learn as you go i guess.. great thread and build best of luck on getting it squared away

Lol yea been around a bunch of builds but never done/seen a first time coolant fill. So much for a no brainer haha. I don't get how the volumetric weight of the fluid in the radiator doesn't just push the fluid through the system if it feeds from the bottom

Little status update:

On the ferry home from CT because my tuner told me not to do any highway driving for the first 500mi. So with that back and forth i was still able to put clock150mi on the car. The only issue that I'm having is that the P0011 code still comes up so I'm guess that my timing is still ever so slightly off causing the car to run a little rough at times.

I'll be fixing that tomorrow after work and then continuing to rack up the miles so i can get back to boost!

Although i haven't gotten the Tranny all that hot yet, the switch to extra-s from royal purple was definitely a good move
