subikid90
NO only 1 trust bearing at number 5, you put the normal main bearing in the number 3 location. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
SpecBamf41
oh, it still sits there? even know it can except a thrust bearing? BNR18g on 93oct
SpecBamf41
when inspecting the crank and rods i noticed that the rods had a bit of side to side play. not like sliding on the jornal but moving not parallel to the crank. just fyi. and im going to have the block machined to take a #5 thrust and then i need a phase 2 crank... anybody got a phase 2 crank laying around? jamaha51
Ya, if I had enough money to be building my engine up it would be gone already!
SpecBamf41
you can buy these used parts and end up just haveing to spend money having them grinded and it might cost more then a new crank all together. BNR18g on 93oct
DOHCEJ22E1
looking at sti rods compared to our rods... dont look much different? what changes the CR? the piston dish cc's? Indeed. There is less on the piston dish on a 257 than there is on a 25D or any N/A Subaru EJ25. Gasket thickness is a factor too.
I Donated broknindarkagain Posted October 18, 2011 I Donated Share Posted October 18, 2011 Gasket thickness is a BIG factor -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." SpecBamf41
ok tell me this. how much of a change in gasket thinkness can change CR. sti rods and our rods are basically the same lenght. is the piston pin on sti pistons located different from the face then ours? subikid90
When building a motor, basically, can be the difference between a working motor and an expensive paper weight. A gasket can change compression ratio 0.5 or more depending on how thick of gasket you go with -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
SpecBamf41
damn... yea im starting to think im in over my head building this motor.. i have thing to think about like CR, bearing sizes, ptw clearence, ring gap and ponies. how important is PTW clearence. cause my block is going to be honed again and these used pistons im getting are unknown sizes.. BNR18g on 93oct
subikid90
Your pistons have an A or B size. The block also has these sizes stamped on it from the factory. You MUST have pistons that match the bore, A or B, or bore the motor 20 over and use 20 over pistons and rings. The FSM for our cars has what the tolerances for A and B sized pistons are. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
SpecBamf41
what a pain in the ass. so if i have a piston thats to small for my bore im screwed. should just get 100mm pistons and bore to the right ptw clearence. SpecBamf41
yea.... what you think sti rods should look like? this are not ej25d. if they were they would fit my stock crank. reason i have the other thread is cause i wanted to talk motor building and would get more input if i made a new thread.
