Probably because if they were actually doing all the welding and grinding of welds he claimed it would cost too much.

I see the ground welds in the pics. I am sure the eBay version does not have this. But I can tig weld the inner surfaces and grind myself. A buddy has a tig welder.

That's cheating!...lol...you'll corrupt the test results

Alright. Headers are delivered and pics taken. I am crazy, but because the EL headers were $65 delivered, I went ahead and ordered a set of Un-EL headers too, lol. Both sets of headers delivered for $100.

This is what you can get for $100 on eBay (hope some are sitting down, cause I know your gonna be shocked).

First the Un-El headers

Pic #3 Both headers in their boxes

Pic #4 Down a flange

Pic #5 " " "

Pic #6 Down the collector

Pic #7,8,9 Header at angles

Pic #10 outside welds on collector

Notice the welds are clean. Also notice the inside of the pipes at flanges have been spot welded and ground down. Actually quite a bit of work involved. Much nicer than expected. Remember I paid approx $50 for each header (delivered).

Now the EL headers. it has been pointed out before that these headers looked like the BoostJunkie headers that never came into production. Hmmmm... Where is BoostJunkie getting his stuff? These are EXACTLY like the headers BoostJunkie was showing off. Tig welded inside and out with inside welds ground down for air flow, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pic #1, 2 The headers

Pic #3 Down the collector

Pic #4.5 Down flanges

Pic #6 Outside welds on collector

Pic #7,8 Welds

Welds are clean. Welded inside and out! Inside welds are ground down for smooth air flow. Can't see down the flex pipe, so no insight on the strength of the flex section.

Biggest question is which to install first? They both look decent (for the money). I am surprised enough that I just ordered the matching up pipe for $30 delivered. I will compare it to my Cobb up pipe when it gets here. Stay tuned for that.

Until then... What the heck do you all think? I think I scored some decent pipes for DIRT.

Maybe 10-15HP. They are going to be part of a stage 3 build up.

I'm still light headed from opening the box(s) and finding two sets of headers that weren't cracked or broken already, and I paid $100 delivered for BOTH.

Here is the eBay store for the seller I got them from

http://stores.ebay.com/surewinproducts

Here is an active link to an auction for the UEL header from this same seller

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-03-04-05-06-Subaru-WRX-STI-header-manifold-4-2-1-New_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efae85eb5QQitemZ270497504949QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

The asking price is currently $49.99. I paid $15.50 plus shipping. The auction(s) I won had a starting bid of $9.99. From the sellers feedback he does the $9.99 starting bid quite often. Maybe he noticed that he was shipping two headers to the same address and one was purchased for $20.50 and the other for $15.50 (plus shipping). But I would keep an eye out. I just bought an upipe from him this morning for $9.99 plus $20 shipping. Yeah, for $30 I got an upipe. If it is anything like the headers its a steal.

From what I read the general consensus is all headers are throw away. Spend $700-$1000 and they crack in a year or so.

Thats the point of this "experiment". These are the same headers sold by several "manufacturers" on nasioc. I got two sets for $100 delivered.

If the headers last 6 months then the lifespan is "equal" to a $700 set of headers. We did the math on page 1 of the thread.

Yeah, could be fun. I think in the end I will get a set of P/P manifolds and cross pipe from Grimmspeed. This seems to be the way to keep reliability. But I could not resist the temptation to "play" for the $100. Plus my dad has an 02 WRX. So, I can "regift" the headers and uppipe to him, lol.

You think go for the EL ones first Shamar? I can install, pull some logs and extract an Airboy sheet to see if there are gains, lol.

Up pipe showed up today. Ordered it yesterday. This is the $30 up pipe deliverd in 24 hours. WOW again. This is beginning to be UNREAL!

Once again 1/2" flanges. Tig welded. Welded inside and outside. inside welds ground down for max air flow. Looks WAY better than the $30 I paid for it.

These M2 parts might be selling dirt cheap on eBay, but they are worth a second look IMHO.

That up pipe looks legit. After reading the flex pipe horror stories I might just have to replace my Megan piece with this one (pending fitment results, of course). This is definitely very interesting stuff. A pipe that fits is a pipe that fits, right? I am not at all opposed to spending less money. Thanks for being the testi!

Way more legit than the price would have you think. I am hoping to get at least one set installed for a fit test this weekend. I figure if it goes on without too much gorilla work and doesn't leak its worth a shot. I will log it and compare before and after. Don't expect to do any long term testing, but you never know.

I can't say it enough. The total price for a header and up pipe was $80. If the crap fits, doesn't leak and lasts 6 months it was probably worth the money.

As for the up pipe. Jeez, the thing is solid, welds are good and has an EGT fitting. If it fits without leaking, it could be the DEAL OF THE YEAR. $30 delivered in 24 hours. Hard to beat (if it fits). If it doesn't fit I have some real shiny paper weights.

Yeah, I should email them and demand a piece of the action, lol. Still planning on a test fit this weekend. Will try to get pics as well. Not sure how good a shot I can get of the up pipe installed, but I can get under car shots of the headers for sure.

Yes 08-09 OEM uppipe is catless. but this one is Shiny! Might be a larger pipe diameter too. I will measure that as well.
