For me spool was AWESOME when hot. When cold, imo made a bigger lag feel than going fmic.

Also pretty sure those headers are now going strong on someone elses car (I think I sold them to OKJay?)

Would they get hot enough just from normal driving?

Its not that warm here so I need to drive a bit before I can safely go into boost anyways.

I drive aggressive enough (and so does my 65+ year old dad) to keep them hot. But, I admit, I drive very aggressively. I have had customers who were unhappy with headers on their DD cars because they could not get them consistently hot and did not like the few hundred RPM lag when they were cold.

Admittedly, the headers were not hot after slugging though traffic or long hauls on the highway out of boost. Once driving agressively, not a problem.

Were yours wrapped or coated?

No. That was not the point. At the time, the exact same headers were being sold elsewhere (under a different name) for $700. The point was, I bought them, installed them and tested them, to show that you could get the same thing for much less.

They were not "good". They just "fit" and worked. The 2002 WRX has only 60k on her. If I had the car at the shop (and a little more time) it would not have those headers on it anymore.

Coating and wrap helps some with keeping the heat in and the air moving quicker.

The ebay ones (the "$700" ones) were not wrapped or coated. I should point out that I am also not comparing apples to apples completely. The ebay one was unwrapped UELH and the GTSPEC I have is wrapped ELH. I should also point out that MSprank has built and driven my car with plenty of times (among others!).

In comparison, agressive driving just to get hot...

The GTSpec/Tomei were thicker metal than the ebay knock offs I had so they can hold more heat energy but I get the feeling that the wrap made a bigger difference. Ive never ran my GTSPEC w/o a wrap and never ran the cheapy ebay wrapped so I can't really say one way or the other definitively.

Hey guys I bought a used Ebay Header, guy had it wrapped and used for about 5000km or so.

I painted it with VHT Flameproof Header paint and primer.

If anyone wants more pics of the welds and such I can take more once its dry.
