I just want to drive my car again!!! 3 options; 1) Call Driveshaft Specialist 1-866-455-6622. Talked to Jeff. They have the info. on my drive shaft. Front shaft 24.12", rear shaft 36.12". Uses 1310 XL u-joint & 2002 Forrester Wagon A/T carrier bearing with 05 LGT carrier bearing mounting bracket to bolt to the drive shaft tunnel. 2) 07-09 Spec B driveshaft, and replace the differential's input flange with the R160 flange. If you using a R180 rear diff. 3) 05-09 Legacy 4EAT driveshaft ,Over all drive shaft length should be about 63" Mike Edited January 21, 2012 by HAMMER DOWN Mileage:331487 Retired/Sold

NSFW
FWIW, I'm using a drive shaft from Driveshaft Specialist (aka Thrash Driveshaft), and it fit perfectly. I have no idea about the clutch, sorry.
HAMMER DOWN
I'm not at you power level. Last dyno at stage 1, I was at 240ft@3000 rpm. (now stage 2) I used Stock 05 STi clutch & SMFW. At over 100k on OEM until. It still holed full acceleration with a 3500bls. car in tow. IIRC, I think the OEM is rate to hold between 350whp-400whp. jmorris6689
my car has a act 6puck extreme duty and maybe 2000 miles on it so iwas hoping i didnt have to invest in another clutch, so i guess im gonna try and make this work but my hopes arent that high
Scooby2.5
I used a 2006 4EAT driveshaft, Clutch Masters fX300 clutch and pressure plate with stock STI flywheel and spec b STI Short Throw shifter
jmorris6689
i understand i can switch to a 6mt clutch but im trying to see if my 5spped one will work
frank_ster
yes .. the only thing you need the the pedal assembly and change the cluster and remove a jumper identifying auto trans. Now that's thinking out of the boxer! fyi all 05 + legacy's have built in code reader
Scooby2.5
I dont believe the 5 speed one will work as I remember. If it would have I would have kept my 5 speed ACT clutch and used it in the 6 speed. As it would not I sold the WRX flywheel and ACT clutch that was in my 5 speed with only 30k on it. also a previous post in another thread on the driveshaft.... jmorris6689
yea im looking on ebay right now and all i can find is a 06-07 wrx auto driveshaft, this whole swap has turned into a giant pain
HAMMER DOWN
Let me go to my garage an check my theory out. Going to see if 6MT pressure plate will fit up to the 5MT's FW. And other thing you can check on. Is the JDM 04 STi was 5MT. Need it see if it was a "push" or "pull" type clutch action. If it's a "pull" like the currant 6MT's. Then you mite need to just replace you pressure plate. Mike Mileage:331487 Retired/Sold
jmorris6689
im trying to figure out if i can convert it to the proper style (push or pull) im dyslexic so i get it confused as to which is which

HAMMER DOWN
Sorry I must of scrap my 5MT's DMFW, clutch & pressure plate. I can tell you that the 5 & the 6MT's have the same spline. The 5MT's is a "push" Through the action of the slave cylinder, pushing on the clutch fork. The TOB is "pushed" into the pressure plate finger. Releasing the clutch. The 6MT's is a "pull" Through the action of the slave cylinder, pushing on the clutch fork. The TOB is "pulled" away from the pressure plate finger. Releasing the clutch. jmorris6689
are the outback and legacy 4eat drive shafts the same? and hammer thanks for taking care of my dyslexia about the push pull situation
HAMMER DOWN
05-09 4EAT Legacy drive shaft fits. Outback is built of the same platform. It should be the same. To make sure, total length is about 63." IIRC Scooby2.5 4EAT Legacy drive shaft measured 62.5" Mike Edited January 21, 2012 by HAMMER DOWN Mileage:331487 Retired/Sold

NSFW
On second thought, it looks like there's more to the AT-to-MT swap than I thought: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/another-5eat-6mt-5mt-swap-questions-05-lgt-thread-132374.html The crossmember that supports the back of the AT doesn't bolt up to the chassis in the same places as the crossmember that supports the back of the MT. This can be fixed with a welder. The AT ECU gets confused when the TCU is missing, and it reports a CAN error on the trip meter. This might be fixable by flashing an MT ROM onto the AT ECU but that hasn't yet been tried. And of course the AT instrument cluster has the PRNDL thing on it. I suppose that's what DRoc to ask about swapping the cluster... I'd forgotten about that little difference. I guess I have to retract my earlier statement that he was over-thinking this, actually I was under-thinking it.
wichitalegacy
ok guys. I'm picking up a wrx that has a 6spd swap done to it so I can swap trannys out of it into my lgt. Is there any stamps in the tranny to tell what year it came out of? Thanks
Guest
Yes, there should be tranny code. But it's not obvious how it matches to the part #. Google is your friend.
