urfsin
This might be a silly question, but here it goes. Has anyone thought of swapping in a 6mt from the new LGT's (2010+)? As far as I know it's the same size as the 05-09 5MT, but has another gear shoved in the case. I know the tanny is not as strong as the STI 6MT, but would this swap be bolt in? (no diff / axle / mix-match parts swap) I think it would be an option for some people who don't really care about the added strength of the STI tranny, but do want a taller freeway gear. Scooby2.5
Going with the clutch masters fx300. I cant find anywhere what cross member everyone is using for this. Does the 5 speed cross member work OK with the 6 speed mount? This seems to suggest its the same whether 5 speed legacy or 6 speed spec b other than obviously the rubber mount 5 speed http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b13/type_5/engine/engine_mounting/illustration_2/ 6 speed http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b13/type_12/engine/engine_mounting/illustration_2/
Scooby2.5
6MT rear transmission crossmember (same part for Spec B and Impreza) Been wondering about the cross member and I posted this in a couple of the swap threads. I know the transmission mount is different between 5 speed and 6 speed but I now believe the Cross Member is the same.... This seems to suggest its the same whether 5 speed Legacy or 6 speed Spec B other than obviously the rubber mount 5 speed http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b13/type_5/engine/engine_mounting/illustration_2/ 6 speed http://opposedforces.com/parts/legacy/us_b13/type_12/engine/engine_mounting/illustration_2/ Edited June 12, 2011 by Scooby2.
NSFW
This is confusing... The 6MT Impreza parts are different from the spec B parts: http://opposedforces.com/parts/impreza/us_g11/type_5/engine/engine_mounting/illustration_2/ I did my install too long ago so I can't really say for certain, but I think that I installed the 6MT using the crossmember/brace that came with the 6MT (so, the Impreza part numbers). However that would imply that the opposedforces page for the spec B is wrong, and that makes me not trust my own recollection. I dunno. Hopefully someone with a clearer memory can chime in here... lieutenantcolumbo
I know the transmission mount is different between 5 speed and 6 speed [/url] Not sure if this helps out with your parts quest, but Torque Solutions has a transmission mount that fits both based on M Spranks store: An easy way to improve the overall feel of the shifting experience in your Subaru M/T! SBT
I'm not sure how much clearance is required for the cabled-shift linkage that now resides on top of the new 2010+ LGT/Legacy/OB transmissions. Or even what the front axles and rear drive shaft requirements are relative to mounting these up in a 4th gen Legacy GT/OBXT http://www.dragtimes.com/images-classifieds-large/2010-SUBARU-LEGACY-2.5GT-6-SPEED-TRANSMISSION-EJ255-8K-for-sale_330526920113.jpg And it's apparently more than just thinning down the gears and adding a 6th forward gear. This transmission, IIRC, is also the same type that's used in the Forester and Legacy diesel versions in Europe. With the torque the Subaru diesels make, these have got to be at least as robust as the 4th gens 5 Speed version. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -

Scooby2.5
that's cheaper than having the sti ones extended by a shop. im ordering them monday always bothered me after my swap that my shifter wasnt centered. heres the parts from myimportparts.com (chandler subaru superstore in chandler, AZ) Part Number: 35041AG020 ROD CP GEAR SHIFT $20.37 Part Number: 35031AG020 STAY CP GEAR SHIFT $33.38 Guys I verified this week that the only part that is different from the STI 6 speed shifter is the 35031AG020 Stay CP. Here is a picture to prove this point. In this picture I am comparing a brand new from STI SPEC B STS shifter with a modified 04-07?? STI shifter. http://inlinethumb37.webshots.com/50916/2410317020074087040S600x600Q85.jpg The gold colored Stay CP in the pictures that is lengthened (with a smaller diameter piece inserted) is the STI version of the SPEC B 35031AG020 Stay CP. So if you are using a STI shifter you could order just the STAY CP 35031AG020 and not have to lengthen your STI stay CP. As you can tell the STI SPEC B shifter (silver) is already longer and matches the lengthened stock STI shifters Stay CP. Also Unclemat had noted in a previous thread/post that you need to order the 35041AG020 ROD CP to get the gold colored joint piece in this picture because the 5 speed piece is different. You need this so the shifter is centered in the hole correctly. So I ordered the 35041AG020 ROD CP and checked it against the joint part that was already on my 08 6 speed transmission and they are identical. So if your 6 speed comes with the gold joint piece shown in this pic you should be good to go. If you do not have this piece order 35041AG020 ROD CP and you will get the Rod and the joint piece. If you have the gold colored joint piece in the below pic there is no need to order the 35041AG020 ROD CP as the rod portion is the same. http://inlinethumb57.webshots.com/51960/2754042120074087040S600x600Q85.jpg Edited August 2, 2012 by Scooby2.
STIll inspired
Hey I guys I am new to this site and haven't posted much, but from lurking and posting on other sites I am still stuck and looking for help. I have a 2000 Subaru legacy gt 5spd which I am looking into going full sti drivetrain with 5x114.3 hubs, dccd, and Brembos all around. I am planning to also get boost in the future also, ( looking into 22t from a legacy ss) with plans of tracking the car I feel that 5x114.3 hubs will be neccessary in order to prevent the knock back generated on 5x100 hubs with Brembos. If there is anything you can help me understand that would be greatly appreciated.
Scooby2.5
Search function works great, everything you asked is probably on this forum.... For Ex. I searched sti swap 2000 legacy: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/sti-ej257-into-00-lgt-limited-127283.html?t=127283&highlight=sti+swap+2000 With that said and to answer what is pertinent to this thread I do not believe you can put the 5x114 hubs on a legacy. It has been discussed in this thread as well as other 6 speed threads. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/nsfws-6mt-swap-thread-143520.html Edited June 30, 2011 by Scooby2.

Scooby2.5
Small parts: (needed for either recipe) Please confirm these part numbers for your particular transmission. Most of these are just what I used for my 05 STI 6MT swap; later years may have differences. Keep your 5MT neutral sensor switch, put it in the 6MT. 6MT shift linkage (Preferably Spec B; the Impreza shift linkage is shorter) (Is this still true for 08+ Impreza?) 6MT clutch fork - 30530AA050 6MT clutch release shaft - 30532AA020 6MT clutch slave cylinder - 30620AA172 - alternate:30620AA173 6MT clutch hose 6MT throw-out bearing 6MT rear transmission mount (same part for Spec B and Impreza) 6MT rear transmission crossmember (same part for Spec B and Impreza) Reverse lockout cable - 35060AG010 Downpipe support bracket - 44021FE030 Clutch fork shaft plug (threaded cap that holds the fork shaft in) - 30550AA000 (04-05, and probably 06, but not 07+) Output Shaft Oil Seal (oil seal for the driveshaft interface) - 806735210 - $11.50 Clutch fork spring (spring that connects clutch fork to bell housing) - 30546AA060 - $5.20 Inner shift boot (foam/rubber, mostly for noise insulation, you can reuse the 5MT if you trim it) If you get a DCCD diff, you'll need an aftermarket DCCD controller. Scooby2.5
i can CONFIRM that this works. 2005 2.5i 4EAT propshaft. works great If you are putting a 6 speed in a wagon does the shaft have to be wagon specific or does either a sedan or wagon 2005 2.5i 4EAT shaft work?
